About the Comic Strip Maker (Panels, Speech Bubbles and Characters)

Make a comic in the browser: a strip of two to four panels, a square for social posts, or an A4 or US Letter page of up to twelve panels, with the gutters, margins, frame and corners you choose and a right-to-left reading order for manga. Each panel gets a background (sky, sunset, night, room, office, street, park, speed lines, a burst, halftone dots, a plain colour or your own photo), characters drawn by this tool — adults and children with ten poses, nine expressions, eight hair styles, glasses and your choice of colours, facing left or right — and your own drawings or photos as characters or props, with a white background made transparent if you like.

Add speech, thought, whisper and shout balloons: each one grows to fit its words, keeps inside its panel and points its tail at the character who speaks, stopping short of the face. Add captions at the top or bottom of a panel and sound effects in big outlined letters at any angle. Lettering comes in hand-written, clean or capital styles, with Hindi in Poppins and Noto Sans and the other Indian scripts in your device’s own fonts.

The files — a PNG of the whole comic, a print PDF (A4 or US Letter at 300 dpi) and a ZIP of the panels one by one — and Copy image, which puts the comic on your clipboard, need a Pro pass; the free preview lets you make and edit the whole comic and shows it at screen size with a watermark. Nothing is uploaded.

    How to use it

    1. Choose a starting comic (an office joke, two friends, a story page) or a blank strip or page, then the format, the panel layout and the reading order under Page.
    2. Click or tap a panel in the picture (or pick it under Panel) and choose its background.
    3. Add characters and set each one’s pose, expression, hair, colours and the way they face, then move and size them with the sliders. Add your own drawing or photo the same way.
    4. Add balloons: write the words, choose speech, thought, whisper or shout, and pick who speaks — the tail turns to them. Add a caption or a sound effect where the scene needs one.
    5. Check the picture, then use the PNG, PDF, panels ZIP or Copy image buttons; the free preview shows the comic with a watermark, and these files need a Pro pass. Save the project keeps everything, your pictures included, in a file you can open again.

    Common uses

    • Comic strips for newsletters, blogs, social media and team chats.
    • Story pages and storyboards in class, for language practice or a project.
    • Explaining a product, a process or a safety rule with characters and speech balloons.
    • Manga-style pages read from right to left.

    Balloons that fit

    • A balloon is as wide as you set it and as tall as its words need: the text wraps at its width, and the balloon shrinks around short lines. Only when a panel is too small for the words do the letters get smaller.
    • The tail of a speech, whisper or shout balloon points at the mouth of the character you choose as the speaker and stops before the head; a thought balloon trails little circles towards the thinker. Without a speaker, choose the tail’s direction or none.
    • Whisper balloons have a dashed outline and slanted letters; shout balloons are a burst with bold letters.
    • The letter size follows the panels (about 4% of a panel’s side, with a slider to make it larger or smaller), so lettering stays readable at print size.

    Characters and your own pictures

The characters are simple cartoon figures drawn by this tool, so you can use them in anything you make. For your own art, add a drawing (a scan or a photo of a drawing on white paper works well with Make a white background transparent) or a photo with a transparent background (a PNG). Pictures are opened on your device and never uploaded; a project file keeps them so you can open the comic again later.

    Printing

The print PDF is a 300 dpi page of A4 or US Letter: a strip or a square comic is centred on the page with a margin, and an A4 or Letter comic fills its own page. Print at 100% (“actual size”). The PNG is the comic at its full size — 3300 × 1100 pixels for a strip, 2160 pixels square, or the page at 300 dpi.

    Limitations

    • The characters are this tool’s own simple figures; character libraries from other sources are not included.
    • Removing the background of a photo is limited to making a white (or near-white) background transparent; photos with busy backgrounds keep them.
    • There is no AI script helper: you write the panels and the words.
    • Lettering in Indian scripts other than Devanagari uses your device’s own fonts; check the picture on the device you export from.
    • In the free preview you can make and edit the whole comic and see it at screen size with a watermark; the PNG, the print PDF, the panels ZIP and Copy image need a Pro pass.

    Frequently asked questions

What do I get without a pass?

Without a pass, Comic Strip Maker (Panels, Speech Bubbles and Characters) shows the whole comic to edit at screen size (up to 640 pixels) with a MySmartCoPilot watermark. Until you unlock it, the result can’t be downloaded or copied. A Pro, Premium or Ultimate pass, a one-time payment that never renews, unlocks the full result. The pricing page lists the passes and their prices.

Can I use the comics I make here?

Yes: the characters, backgrounds and balloons are drawn by this tool, and your words and pictures are yours. Use your own photos only if you have the right to, and ask people before you put their photo in a comic.

How do I make a manga page?

Choose a page layout and set the reading order to right to left: panel 1 moves to the top right, and the panels are read right to left along each row.

Can I write in Hindi or other Indian languages?

Yes. Poppins and Noto Sans include Devanagari for Hindi, Marathi and Nepali; for Bengali, Tamil, Telugu and the other scripts choose the device font, which uses the fonts your phone or computer already has.

    Is my comic saved?

Your words and settings are kept in this browser as you work. Pictures are not kept there: use Save the project to keep the whole comic, pictures included, in a file.

    What size are the files?

    A strip is 3300 × 1100 pixels, a square 2160 × 2160 pixels, and an A4 or US Letter page is drawn at 300 dpi (2480 × 3508 or 2550 × 3300 pixels).
