About the Age Calculator

Enter a date of birth to get the exact age in years, months and days — today, or on any other date you choose, such as the “age as on” cut-off date in an exam or job notification. You also get the age as a total number of months, weeks, days and hours, the weekday you were born on, the date and weekday of the next birthday with a countdown, and upcoming round-number milestones like 10,000 days.

The calculation uses calendar months, not averages: a month is complete when the same date comes round again, and in a shorter month the last day counts. If you were born on 29 February you can choose whether the birthday falls on 28 February or 1 March in other years.

How to use it

  1. Enter the date of birth.
  2. Leave Age on as today, or change it to the date you need the age for (for example 1 January 2027 for an eligibility cut-off).
  3. Read the age in years, months and days, the totals, and the next birthday. Use Copy to copy a summary.
  4. Born on 29 February? Choose 28 February or 1 March to set which day counts as your birthday in non-leap years.

Examples

Born 15 August 1990, age on 2 October 2026
Result
36 years, 1 month, 17 days · 433 months · 1,885 weeks 2 days · 13,197 days · next birthday Sunday 15 August 2027, in 317 days
Born 29 February 2000, age on 28 February 2023
Result
23 years, 0 months, 0 days if birthdays fall on 28 February, or 22 years, 11 months, 30 days if they fall on 1 March
Born 31 January 2026, age on 28 February 2026
Result
1 month — February has no 31st, so its last day completes the month

Common uses

  • Checking the age limit for an exam, job, scholarship or admission on the notified cut-off date.
  • Filling in forms that ask for age in completed years, or in years and months.
  • Finding out how many days old you are, or which day of the week you were born on.
  • Counting down to a birthday and seeing which weekday it falls on.

How the age is counted

The age is the number of whole years, then whole months, then days from the date of birth to the “age on” date:

  • Years are complete when the birthday has been reached.
  • Months are complete when the same day number comes round again. When a month is too short (born on the 31st, and the month has 30 days), its last day counts — so someone born on 31 January is one month old on 28 February, or 29 February in a leap year.
  • Days are what is left over.

The totals count every calendar day between the two dates. Hours are the number of days × 24; the time of birth is not taken into account. On the day of birth the age is 0 days; the next day it is 1 day.

Birthdays on 29 February

In years without a 29 February, people born on that date usually celebrate on 28 February or on 1 March. Both conventions are in use and laws differ between countries, which matters for anything that depends on reaching an exact age (a licence, voting, retirement). Choose the convention that applies to you. In years without a 29 February it decides whether the age goes up on 28 February or on 1 March, and which date the next birthday falls on; until 28 March the days part of the age then differs by one.

Age “as on” a cut-off date

Recruitment and admission notices often state an age limit “as on” a particular date, such as 1 January or 1 August of the year. Enter that date in Age on to see the completed years, months and days on that day. Read the notice carefully: some count the cut-off date differently or ask for a date of birth between two dates rather than an age.

Limitations

  • Uses the Gregorian calendar for all dates. It does not convert from other calendars such as Vikram Samvat or Hijri.
  • “Today” comes from your device’s date, so it changes at midnight in your own time zone.
  • Time of birth is not used; totals in hours are whole days × 24.

Frequently asked questions

How old am I in days?

Enter your date of birth and the total appears under Days. It is the number of days that have passed since the date of birth: 0 on the day you were born, 1 the next day, and so on up to the “age on” date.

How is the age calculated for someone born on 29 February?

In leap years the birthday is 29 February. In other years you can choose 28 February or 1 March; the age changes on the day you choose. The calculator shows the choice only when the date of birth is 29 February.

Can I calculate my age on a future date?

Yes. Set Age on to any date after the date of birth, for example the closing date of an application. Dates of birth after the “age on” date are rejected with an explanation.

Why does the month count look different from other calculators?

Calculators differ for birthdays at the end of a month. This one counts a month as complete on the same day number, or on the last day of a shorter month (31 January → 28 February). Some others wait until 1 March. The difference is at most a few days.

Is my date of birth saved or sent anywhere?

No. The calculation runs in your browser and the date of birth is not stored or uploaded.
