About the Meme Generator
Turn your own picture into a meme: the classic style with big white letters and a black outline at the top and bottom, or the modern style with a caption bar above the picture. Text shrinks automatically to fit, wraps onto more lines when needed, and extra text boxes can be dragged anywhere on the picture. Start from a blank canvas if you have no picture.
Animated GIFs keep their animation — the text is added to every frame and the timing and looping stay as they were. Write in English, Hindi (Noto Sans and Poppins include Devanagari) or any language your device has fonts for, and add emoji. Save as PNG, JPG or GIF, or copy the image. Nothing is uploaded, and no meme templates are included — use pictures you own or may share.
How to use it
- Choose a picture or an animated GIF (or paste one), or pick a size and colour and select Use blank canvas.
- Pick Classic and type the top and bottom text, or Modern and type the caption. Select Add a text box for more text, then drag it on the preview.
- Change the font, text size, colours and outline under Font and colours. Text that does not fit is made smaller, then wrapped.
- Choose PNG, JPG or GIF and select Download. For an animated GIF the text is added to every frame; a progress bar shows how far it has got.
Examples
Photo · top “ONE DOES NOT SIMPLY” · bottom “SKIP THE STANDUP” · Anton, white with black outline
Both lines fitted to the width, outlined so they read on any background
Animated GIF (48 frames) · modern caption “me when the build passes”
An animated GIF with a white caption bar on every frame, same speed and looping
Blank square canvas · Poppins · “जब बॉस कहे बस पाँच मिनट 😅”
Correctly joined Devanagari letters with a colour emoji (the emoji has no outline)
Common uses
- Memes and reaction GIFs for chats and social media.
- Captioned GIFs for team chats and presentations.
- Quick Hindi or English text-on-picture posts.
- Simple posters from a blank canvas with big readable text.
Classic or modern?
- Classic puts the text on the picture, at the top and the bottom, usually in capitals in Anton — an open-source font in the tradition of the condensed headline fonts used for memes — with a thick black outline so it stays readable on light and dark parts of the picture.
- Modern puts a white (or black) bar above the picture with the caption in a clean bold sans font (Noto Sans, or any font you pick), like the captions shared on social media. The bar grows with the text.
- Either way you can add more text boxes and move them anywhere on the picture.
Animated GIFs
Open an animated GIF and it stays animated: the text is drawn on every frame, each frame keeps its own display time, and the GIF loops the way the original did. GIFs are limited to 300 frames and scaled to at most 800 pixels so phones can handle them; each frame gets its own 256-colour palette, so the text colours stay crisp. The preview shows the first frame.
Fonts, Hindi and emoji
The fonts are free and open-source (SIL Open Font License) and load from this site. Noto Sans and Poppins include Devanagari for Hindi, Marathi and Sanskrit; letters a font does not have — for example Tamil, Bengali or Telugu — are drawn with a font installed on your device, and the page tells you when that happens. Emoji are drawn in your device’s own emoji style and are left without an outline, which would otherwise draw a box around them.
Pictures and permission
Popular meme pictures belong to the people and companies who made them, so none are bundled here. Use your own photos, pictures you have permission to use, or a blank canvas. Your picture stays on your device.
Limitations
- Animated GIFs of up to 300 frames, scaled to at most 800 pixels; other animated formats (APNG, animated WebP) are treated as still pictures.
- GIF files keep up to 256 colours per frame, so photos in GIFs look less smooth than in PNG or JPG.
- Transparent areas become white in JPG and GIF downloads; PNG keeps transparency.
- Copy image puts a PNG of the first frame on the clipboard, where the browser allows it.
Privacy
Pictures, GIFs and text stay in your browser; nothing is uploaded or stored. Only your font choice is remembered on this device.
Frequently asked questions
Can I add text to an animated GIF and keep it moving?
Yes. Open the GIF, type your text and download as GIF: the text is added to every frame, and the frame timing and looping stay the same.
Which font do classic memes use?
Classic memes traditionally use a heavy condensed font with white letters and a black outline. This tool uses Anton, a free open-source font of that kind, so you can use your memes anywhere.
Can I write in Hindi?
Yes. Choose Noto Sans or Poppins for correctly joined Devanagari. Other scripts are drawn with your device’s fonts.
Why are there no meme templates?
Most famous meme images are owned by someone, so MySmartCoPilot does not hand them out. Use your own picture, one you are allowed to use, or start with a blank canvas.
Is my picture uploaded?
No. The meme — including every frame of a GIF — is made in your browser.
