About the Merge PDF

Merge PDF combines several PDF files into one document, in the order you choose. Add the files, drag them into order (or use the arrow buttons), and optionally pick which pages to take from each file — for example 1-3, 5 from a long report and every page of an annexure.

Pages are copied exactly as they are, without re-compressing, so text stays sharp and searchable and page sizes and orientation don’t change. Links between pages keep working, each file’s bookmarks are kept, form fields stay fillable, and you can add a bookmark for every file so the merged PDF is easy to find your way around. Everything runs in your browser: your files are never uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Click Choose PDF files or drag your PDFs onto the box. You can add more at any time with Add more.
  2. Put the files in order: drag the ⋮⋮ handle, use the ↑ and ↓ buttons, or press Sort A–Z.
  3. Optional: type the pages to take from a file in its Pages box, for example 1-3, 5, 8-. Leave it empty to include every page.
  4. Optional: change the file name, add a document title, and choose the bookmark options.
  5. Press Merge PDFs, then Download.

Examples

A job application pack
Input
cover-letter.pdf (1 page) + resume.pdf (2 pages) + certificates.pdf, Pages: 1-3
Result
application.pdf — 6 pages, with a bookmark for each document
Taking selected pages from a file
Input
Pages: 5, 1-3, 10-
Result
Page 5 first, then pages 1, 2 and 3, then page 10 to the last page

Pages are added in the order you type them, so you can also reorder pages inside one file.

Common uses

  • Combining an application form, ID proof and certificates into the single PDF an online portal asks for.
  • Joining monthly bank or card statements into one file for a loan, visa or tax submission.
  • Assembling pages that a scanner saved as separate PDFs.
  • Building one handout from slides, notes and appendices.
  • Printing double-sided: the blank-page option makes every document start on a new sheet.

What is kept when PDFs are merged

  • Pages exactly as they are: text, images, fonts, drawings, page size and rotation. Nothing is re-compressed, so quality doesn’t change.
  • Links between pages of the same file keep pointing at the right page. Links to pages you left out are removed instead of pointing nowhere.
  • Bookmarks of each file (optional), placed under a bookmark named after the file if you turn that on.
  • Form fields stay fillable. If two files use the same field name, the second one is renamed (for example name (2)) so their values don’t overwrite each other.
  • Layers (optional content) keep their default visibility, so hidden layers stay hidden.

Not carried over: accessibility tags, file attachments, document-level JavaScript and page labels. A digital signature covers the exact bytes of the file that was signed, so it can’t stay valid in a newly built PDF: the signature’s visible appearance is kept but its signature data is removed — readers would otherwise report it as broken.

Choosing pages

Each file has a Pages box. Separate items with commas:

  • 5 — a single page
  • 1-3 — a range; 3-1 gives the same pages in reverse order
  • 8- — page 8 to the last page; -4 — the first four pages
  • odd, even, last and all

Page numbers are the page’s position in that file, starting at 1 — not the number printed on the page. A page can be listed more than once.

Limitations

  • Encrypted PDFs can’t be merged, including ones that open without a password but carry restrictions. The list marks each such file and says why; remove the protection first with Unlock PDF.
  • Memory is the practical limit: files up to 1 GB each are accepted, but on phones merging a few hundred megabytes at a time works best.
  • The merged file is not optimised for “Fast Web View” (linearized). It is about as large as the pages you include — use the PDF compressor if you need a smaller file.

Privacy

Everything happens in your browser. What you enter or open here is not uploaded or stored by MySmartCoPilot.

Frequently asked questions

Are my PDFs uploaded to a server?

No. The files are read and merged by your browser on your own device, in a background thread so the page stays responsive. Nothing is sent to MySmartCoPilot or anyone else, and the merged PDF is created directly on your device.

Is there a limit on the number of files or pages?

There is no fixed limit on files or pages. Each file can be up to 1 GB; the real limit is your device’s memory, so very large jobs work better on a computer than on a phone.

Will merging reduce the quality of my PDF?

No. Pages are copied as they are — nothing is re-compressed or turned into images, so text stays selectable and searchable and images keep their original resolution.

Can I merge password-protected PDFs?

Not as they are. Files that need a password to open, and encrypted files that open without one but restrict printing, copying or editing, are marked in the list with the reason. If you know the password, remove the protection with Unlock PDF (restrictions need the owner password), or ask the sender for an unprotected copy, then add that copy instead.

In what order are the files merged?

Top to bottom, exactly as shown in the list, and inside each file in the order of its Pages box. Drag files to reorder them, or use Sort A–Z — numbers in file names sort naturally, so “part 2” comes before “part 10”.

What happens to bookmarks, links and form fields?

Links that jump to another page of the same file keep working, and each file’s bookmarks are kept (you can turn this off). Form fields remain fillable with their current values. Links and bookmarks that point at pages you left out are removed.
