About the Image Resizer for Instagram
Add photos and get them at the sizes Instagram keeps for posts and stories: 1080 × 1350 (portrait, 4:5), 1080 × 1440 (tall portrait, 3:4), 1080 × 1080 (square), 1080 × 566 (landscape, 1.91:1) and 1080 × 1920 for stories and Reels covers (9:16). Instagram keeps photos up to 1080 pixels wide and crops any shape outside 1.91:1 to 3:4 itself; resizing here first lets you choose what stays in the frame.
Choose Crop to fill and the part to keep — the top for portraits, the centre for most photos — or Fit with padding to show the whole photo with bands in a colour you pick. Up to 100 photos go in one batch, and JPG files are written with MozJPEG. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded. Without a pass, the free preview shows each result at preview size with a MySmartCoPilot watermark; in a batch, only the first photos are made.
How to use it
- Drop photos on the box, choose them, or paste one with Ctrl/⌘ + V.
- Pick the Instagram size: portrait 4:5 suits most feed posts, tall portrait 3:4 is the tallest Instagram keeps, and 9:16 is for stories and Reels covers.
- Choose Crop to fill with the part to keep, or Fit with padding to show the whole photo; then download each photo with a pass, or after unlocking it, or Download all as a ZIP with a pass.
Examples
4032 × 3024 photo · Instagram post, portrait (4:5) · Crop to fill, centre
1080 × 1350 px: the left and right are trimmed, and nothing is stretched.
4032 × 3024 photo · Story (9:16) · Fit with padding, white
1080 × 1920 px with the whole photo across the middle and white bands above and below.
Instagram’s photo sizes
- Instagram keeps photos up to 1080 pixels wide. A photo between 320 and 1080 pixels wide keeps its resolution as long as its shape is between 1.91:1 (landscape, 1080 × 566) and 3:4 (portrait, 1080 × 1440).
- Other shapes are cropped to fit; narrower photos are enlarged to 320 pixels and wider ones reduced to 1080.
- Scheduling apps that post through Instagram’s publishing API take shapes from 4:5 to 1.91:1, JPEG files up to 8 MB, 320 to 1440 pixels wide: 4:5 is the tallest shape that works everywhere.
- Stories: Meta recommends 9:16, so the photo needs no crop or blank space.

Which size to choose
- Portrait 4:5 (1080 × 1350): taller than a square, so it fills more of the feed, and it works in the app and in scheduling apps.
- Tall portrait 3:4 (1080 × 1440): the tallest shape the app keeps uncropped.
- Square (1080 × 1080) and landscape 1.91:1 (1080 × 566) for photos whose subject is wide.
- 9:16 (1080 × 1920) for stories and Reels covers.
Crop or pad?
- Crop to fill covers the whole frame and trims what does not fit; Position keeps the top, bottom, left, right or centre.
- Fit with padding shows the whole photo and fills the empty bands with a colour you pick.
- For a blurred copy of the photo behind it instead of a plain colour, use the Square Photo Maker; to split one wide picture across several posts, the Instagram Grid Maker.

How this compares
- Runs on your device: your browser resizes the photos itself; they are never uploaded.
- See it before you pay: the free preview shows your resized photos with a MySmartCoPilot watermark; the files you download with a pass, or after unlocking one, hold only your picture.
- You don’t need an account: no sign-up, no email address and nothing to install.
Limitations
- Photos up to 50 megapixels in and out, with at most 16,384 px on a side; up to 100 photos per batch.
- Enlarging cannot add detail: photos narrower than 1080 px come out softer. Tick Don’t enlarge smaller images to leave them as they are.
- Animated GIF, PNG and WebP files keep only their first frame.
- HEIC photos open here only in Safari 17 or later; elsewhere convert them first with the HEIC to JPG Converter.
- MySmartCoPilot is not affiliated with or endorsed by Instagram or Meta; Instagram’s sizes are named only to fit the picture to them.

Frequently asked questions
What do I get without a pass?
Without a pass, Image Resizer for Instagram shows each resized image at preview size (at most half its pixels) with a MySmartCoPilot watermark, its real size and KB; in a batch the first images (up to 3). Until you unlock it, the result can’t be downloaded. A Pro, Premium or Ultimate pass, a one-time payment that never renews, unlocks the full result. The pricing page lists the passes and their prices.
What size should an Instagram post be?
Instagram keeps photos up to 1080 pixels wide in any shape from 1.91:1 to 3:4: 1080 × 1350 (4:5) or 1080 × 1440 (3:4) for portraits, 1080 × 1080 for squares and 1080 × 566 for landscapes. Instagram crops other shapes itself.
What size is an Instagram story?
9:16, which Meta recommends so the photo needs no crop or blank space: 1080 × 1920 pixels here.
Why does Instagram crop my photo?
Its shape is outside 1.91:1 to 3:4. Resize it here to one of Instagram’s shapes first and choose the part to keep, or pad it to show the whole photo.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. They are resized in your browser, and the page keeps working offline once it has loaded.
