About the Compress Image to 20KB

Add a photo or a signature and get it back under 20 KB: at most 20,000 bytes, at the highest JPG quality that fits. When even a low quality is too big — a phone photo has millions of pixels — the picture is made smaller in pixels until it fits, which is what 20 KB forms expect. JPG files are written with MozJPEG, an encoder built for small files.

20 KB is the limit for bank-exam and SSC signatures and for the photo of an online PAN application; for an IBPS or SBI photo it is the minimum instead. The rules are listed below with their official sources. Everything runs in your browser: nothing is uploaded. Without a pass, the free preview shows your result at preview size with a MySmartCoPilot watermark; in a batch, only the first files are made.

How to use it

  1. Add the photo or signature: drop it on the box, choose it, or paste a screenshot. Several at once work too.
  2. The size is already set to 20 KB. Keep the format on JPG, which these forms ask for.
  3. Check the result: its size, the quality used and its pixels. Then download it — with a pass, or after unlocking this result — or all of them as a ZIP with a pass.

Examples

IBPS or SBI signature
Input
Photo of a signature on white paper · 20 KB
Result
A JPG of at most 20,000 bytes.

The bank forms also want 140 × 60 pixels and at least 10 KB: the Photo & Signature Resizer makes all three and cleans the paper white.

A phone photo for a form
Input
4032 × 3024 px JPG · 20 KB
Result
About a few hundred pixels across at a quality of 40 or more, at most 20,000 bytes.

Where 20 KB is the minimum

Some forms refuse files that are too small. A file needs 20,480 bytes to count as 20 KB for a form that counts 1 KB as 1,024 bytes.

If your file comes out smaller, Increase Image Size in KB raises it to the minimum without changing the picture.

Pixel sizes that fit in 20 KB

Measured with MozJPEG on portrait photos:

  • A 200 × 230 px photo is about 9–14 KB at quality 85 and 17–30 KB at 95, so it fits 20 KB at a high quality.
  • A 413 × 531 px passport-size photo (3.5 × 4.5 cm at 300 DPI) is about 17–29 KB at quality 75: a plain background fits 20 KB at a good quality, a detailed photo needs a lower one or fewer pixels.
  • At quality 85 a passport-shaped portrait stays under 20 KB up to about 230 × 296 to 340 × 437 px, depending on the photo.
  • A clean signature of 140 × 60 px is small even at full quality — often under 10 KB, so a form with a 10 KB minimum may need it padded.

A busy background or a dark, noisy photo needs more bytes for the same pixels.

20 KB: 20,000 or 20,480 bytes?

Forms differ: some count 1 KB as 1,000 bytes, others as 1,024. A maximum is safe at 20,000 bytes or less — under 20 KB either way — and that is what this page makes. A minimum of 20 KB is safe from 20,480 bytes up.

Other sizes

Compress Image to KB has buttons for 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 KB, 1 MB and any other size, with the forms that ask for each. The most-asked sizes have pages too: 50 KB · 100 KB · 200 KB.

Limitations

  • A 20 KB limit leaves room for a few hundred pixels across: large photos are made smaller.
  • Up to 100 images at a time, 50 megapixels and 200 MB each. Animated images keep their first frame.
  • Only the form decides what it accepts: check its pixel size, background and other rules too.

Privacy

Your photos and signatures are processed in your browser and never uploaded. The files you download contain no camera details, dates or GPS location.

Frequently asked questions

What do I get without a pass?

Without a pass, Compress Image to 20KB shows your photo under 20 KB at preview size (up to 640 pixels) with a MySmartCoPilot watermark and its real size; in a batch the first photos (up to 3) are made. Until you unlock it, the result can’t be downloaded. A Pro, Premium or Ultimate pass, a one-time payment that never renews, unlocks the full result. The pricing page lists the passes and their prices.

How do I reduce a photo to 20 KB?

Add it here: the size is set to 20 KB. The tool tries JPG qualities from 92 down and keeps the highest whose file is at most 20,000 bytes; if quality 40 is still too big, it reduces the pixels step by step until the file fits.

Why is my signature smaller than 10 KB?

A clean signature has little detail, so even at full quality its JPG is small. If your form asks for 10–20 KB, use Increase Image Size in KB or the Photo & Signature Resizer, which pad the file with an invisible comment until it reaches the minimum; the picture stays the same.

Will a 20 KB photo look blurry?

At the pixel sizes forms ask for (such as 200 × 230 px) a 20 KB JPG keeps a high quality. Only a large picture squeezed into 20 KB gets small; compare the result with your original with the eye button.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. It is compressed in your browser, and the page keeps working offline once it has loaded.
