About the Square Photo Maker (No Crop)
Instagram, WhatsApp status, TikTok and many apps crop photos that are not the right shape. This tool fits the whole photo into a 1:1, 4:5, 9:16 or 16:9 frame (or 3:4, 4:3, 2:3 and 3:2) without cutting anything off, and fills the empty space with a blurred, enlarged copy of the photo, a solid colour, a gradient or transparency.
Move and size the photo in the frame, add a border, rounded corners and a soft shadow, and save at 1080 px (the standard Instagram width), 1440 px, 2048 px or the photo’s own resolution. Add several photos to frame them all the same way and download a ZIP. Everything happens in your browser — nothing is uploaded.
How to use it
- Choose, drop or paste a photo (several for a batch).
- Pick the shape — 1:1 for posts, 4:5 for tall feed posts, 9:16 for Stories and Reels — and the size.
- Choose the background: blurred photo, colour (or From photo for a matching colour), gradient or transparent.
- Drag the photo or use the sliders to place it; add a border, rounded corners or a shadow if you like.
- Select Download (or Download all as ZIP for several photos).

Sizes
The size is the frame’s short side: 1:1 at 1080 px is 1080 × 1080, 4:5 is 1080 × 1350, 9:16 is 1080 × 1920 and 16:9 is 1920 × 1080. "Keep the photo’s own pixels" makes the frame just large enough to hold every pixel of the photo, so nothing is scaled down (up to 50 megapixels).
Apps change their recommended sizes from time to time; 1080 px wide is the long-standing standard for Instagram feed posts. When in doubt, 2048 px gives a sharper result on apps that accept larger uploads.
How the blurred background is made
The photo is enlarged until it covers the whole frame, blurred with a Gaussian blur whose strength follows the Blur slider (computed at reduced resolution, so even large frames stay fast), and darkened or lightened with Darken / lighten so the photo stands out. The sharp photo is then placed on top — with its border, rounded corners and shadow if you chose them.
Limitations
- This tool adds space around the photo; it does not stretch or distort it. To cut the photo to a shape instead, use the Image Cropper.
- Above 100% "Size in frame", the edges of the photo are cut off.
- JPEG cannot store transparency: with a transparent background, save as PNG or WebP.
- EXIF metadata (camera, date, location) is not copied into the new image.

Frequently asked questions
How do I post a whole photo on Instagram without cropping?
Choose 1:1 (or 4:5 for portrait photos), keep "Size in frame" at 100% and pick a background. The whole photo fits inside the frame, so Instagram has nothing to crop.
Which size should I use for Stories and Reels?
9:16 at 1080 px, which gives 1080 × 1920 pixels.
Can I make the background match the photo?
Yes. Use Blurred photo, or choose Colour and select From photo to use the average colour of the photo’s edges.
Can I frame many photos at once?
Yes. Add several photos — the shape, size and background settings apply to all of them — and use Download all as ZIP.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. The framing happens in your browser on your device, and the tool works offline once loaded.
