Gratuity, final settlement, leave salary and overtime in the UAE follow the federal labour law, corporate tax follows the Federal Tax Authority’s rules, and rents and property transfers in Dubai follow RERA and the Dubai Land Department. The tools here are grouped by the job, and each one works from the figures and details you enter. Rules and rates change, so check a result with the authority concerned before you sign or pay.

The main tools

What the labour law gives when a job ends

The UAE Labour Law sets the minimums for private-sector employees: annual leave, overtime, notice and the end-of-service gratuity, which is worked out on the last basic wage rather than the full salary with allowances. When the job ends, the employer must pay everything due within a short deadline the law sets. The final settlement calculator itemises gratuity, unused leave, notice and unpaid salary, and the leave salary and overtime calculator and the gratuity calculator work out each part on its own.

Renting and buying in Dubai

In Dubai, a landlord can raise the rent on renewal only within the steps the rent increase decree allows, measured against the RERA Rental Index for similar homes; the rent increase calculator shows where your rent stands. Buying adds the Dubai Land Department’s transfer fee and registration charges, which the purchase cost calculator lists item by item, and the Central Bank caps how much a bank may lend with its loan-to-value and debt burden rules, which the mortgage affordability calculator applies.

Worked example: A company’s first corporate tax year

  1. Work out the taxable income and the tax on it, with Small Business Relief where it applies, in the corporate tax calculator.

  2. Check whether an Emiratisation target applies to your headcount, and any contribution due, with the Emiratisation calculator.

  3. Issue invoices in dirhams with VAT from the invoice generator, and check a VAT amount with the VAT calculator.

Questions and answers

Does the labour law apply in DIFC and ADGM?

No. The Dubai International Financial Centre and Abu Dhabi Global Market have employment laws of their own, with different end-of-service rules, so check those if you work there. Most other free zones follow the federal labour law.

Who pays the Land Department’s transfer fee?

The law shares it equally between buyer and seller unless they agree otherwise, and many sale agreements put all of it on the buyer, so check what yours says before you budget.
