How this was calculated

Law and official sources

Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 on the Regulation of Labour Relations (UAE Labour Law), Articles 29, 43 and 51–53, as set out on the government portal u.ae.

The gratuity is worked out by the same engine as the Gulf End-of-Service Gratuity Calculator. Estimate for information — not legal advice.

About the UAE Final Settlement Calculator (Gratuity + Leave Salary + Notice)

When a private-sector job in the UAE ends, the employer must pay all outstanding wages, other entitlements and the end-of-service gratuity within 14 days. This calculator adds up that final settlement under Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 (the UAE Labour Law): the gratuity on your last basic wage, cash for annual leave you have not taken — including the leave for the part of the last year you worked — on the basic salary, the notice-period allowance when the notice was not worked, salary not yet paid, and anything else owed either way.

You get an itemised statement with each formula, the numbers that went into it and the official u.ae page each rule comes from — ready to copy, download or print, so you can check your employer’s figures line by line.

How to use it

  1. Enter your start date and last working day, and any days of unpaid leave or absence — they do not count as service.
  2. Enter your last basic wage a month and the allowances paid every month (housing, transport and others).
  3. For annual leave, let the calculator work it out — add the unused days from earlier leave years and the days you took this leave year — or enter the balance from your payslip or HR records.
  4. Choose what happened to the notice period. If it was cut short, enter the notice in your contract and the days you worked.
  5. Add the salary days not yet paid and, under Other amounts, anything else owed to you or by you. Then copy, download or print the statement.

Examples

Basic AED 10,000 + allowances AED 5,000, 1 January 2020 to 30 June 2026
Result
Gratuity: 21 days × 333.33 × 5 years + 30 days × 333.33 × 1.496 years = AED 49,958.90
Leave for the last part-year: 30 × 181 ÷ 365 = 14.88 days × 333.33 = AED 4,958.90
Final settlement: AED 54,917.80
The same job, ended by the employer without the 30 days’ notice
Input
20 days of salary unpaid · an AED 2,000 loan to repay
Result
Notice allowance: 30 × AED 500 (a day’s full wage) = AED 15,000
Unpaid salary: 20 × AED 500 = AED 10,000
Loan: − AED 2,000 → final settlement AED 77,917.80
The same job, resigned and left after 10 of the 30 days’ notice
Result
Notice allowance owed to the employer: 20 × AED 500 = − AED 10,000
Final settlement: AED 44,917.80
Nine months on a basic of AED 9,000
Result
No gratuity (under one year of service)
Leave: 2 days × 9 months = 18 days × AED 300 = AED 5,400

What a UAE final settlement includes

  • End-of-service gratuity — after at least one year of continuous service: 21 days’ basic wage for each of the first five years and 30 days’ for each later year, pro rata for part years, on the last basic wage and never more than two years’ wage. Days of unpaid absence are not counted (u.ae: end of service benefits).
  • Unused annual leave — on termination you are paid for any unused annual leave, however many days there are, and for the leave of the part of the year you worked, on the basic salary (u.ae: types of leave).
  • Notice-period allowance — the notice period is 30 to 90 days. A party that does not give the notice pays the other an allowance calculated on the last wage received, even if no harm was caused; while you work your notice you keep your full wage. The notice can be waived or shortened by agreement, but your rights for the notice period in your contract stay (u.ae: terminating employment contracts; Decree-Law, Article 43 (PDF)).
  • Outstanding wages and other entitlements — salary for days worked and not yet paid, and anything else your contract gives. All of it is due with the gratuity within 14 days of the end of the contract, and the employer may deduct amounts you owe from the gratuity.

How the leave is worked out

You earn 30 days of fully paid leave for each year of service once a year is complete; with more than six months and less than a year of service, 2 days for each month. The calculator counts leave years from your start date. In the current one you have earned 30 days × the days you have worked in it ÷ 365; add the unused days from earlier years, take off the days you have taken, and the balance is paid at a day’s basic wage. Days carried over from earlier years with your employer’s approval are paid on the basic salary too, and an employer may not prevent you from using accrued leave for more than two consecutive years (u.ae: types of leave).

A day’s wage: ÷ 30 or × 12 ÷ 365

The law gives the gratuity and the leave in days of wage but does not say how a monthly wage becomes a day’s wage. Dividing by 30 gives 10,000 ÷ 30 = AED 333.33; counting calendar days, 10,000 × 12 ÷ 365 = AED 328.77 — about 1.4% less. The calculator uses the method you choose for every line: the gratuity and the leave on the basic wage, the notice allowance and unpaid salary on the full wage with allowances.

Other countries

For Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain and Kuwait, the Gulf End-of-Service Gratuity Calculator applies each country’s labour law. In India, the Full & Final Settlement Calculator (India) works out a settlement under Indian law.

Limitations

  • For private-sector workers under the federal UAE Labour Law. The DIFC and ADGM financial free zones have their own employment laws; domestic workers, government employees and UAE nationals in the pension system follow other rules.
  • Contract extras — a ticket home, a bonus, commission or unpaid overtime — are not worked out: add them under Other amounts. The UAE Annual Leave Salary & Overtime Calculator works out overtime pay.
  • The leave estimate counts full-time leave years from your start date. If your employer runs leave by calendar year, or you work part-time, enter your known balance instead.
  • Service is counted up to the last day you enter. The contract runs until its notice period ends (Article 43): if you were given notice but asked not to work it, enter the day the notice ends as your last day, and add any of its days not yet paid under Salary days not yet paid.
  • If your employer enrolled you in the alternative end-of-service savings scheme, the fund pays the contributions and returns for the time enrolled; the gratuity covers only the service before enrolment.
  • An estimate for information, not legal advice. If your employer’s figures differ, ask for the working and raise it with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE).

Frequently asked questions

What is included in a final settlement in the UAE?

Everything the employer owes when the contract ends: outstanding wages, the end-of-service gratuity after a year of continuous service, cash for unused annual leave and, if the employer did not give the notice, the notice-period allowance. Amounts you owe the employer, such as a loan, may be deducted. All of it is due within 14 days of the end of the contract.

Is unused leave paid on basic or gross salary in the UAE?

On the basic salary. On termination you are paid for any unused annual leave and for the leave of the part of the year you worked, calculated on the basic salary. The leave salary paid when you take your leave is different: it is your basic wage plus the allowances you normally receive.

How is notice pay calculated in the UAE?

The notice period is 30 to 90 days. If one side does not give it, it pays the other a notice-period allowance calculated on the last wage received: with a full wage of AED 15,000 and the whole 30 days missed, 30 × 15,000 ÷ 30 = AED 15,000.

Do I get my gratuity if I resign in the UAE?

Yes, once you have at least one year of continuous service: the rule on u.ae does not reduce the gratuity for resignation. If you leave without working your notice, the notice allowance you owe can be deducted.

When must the employer pay the final settlement?

Within 14 days of the end of the contract: all outstanding wages, other entitlements and the gratuity.

What do I get if I worked less than a year?

No gratuity — it needs a year of continuous service. Leave still counts: with more than six months of service you earn 2 days for each month, paid on the basic salary when you leave. Nine months on a basic of AED 9,000 gives 18 days, AED 5,400.
