OCR reads text in pictures of pages. It runs on your device and is slow on phones (a few seconds a page); English is always read as well.

About the AI PDF & Document Translator (PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Subtitles)

Choose a PDF, Word (DOCX), PowerPoint (PPTX), Markdown, text or subtitle (SRT, VTT) file and translate it between English, the 22 scheduled languages of India — Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi, Urdu, Odia and the rest — and 30 more languages such as Spanish, French, German, Arabic, Chinese and Japanese. Before anything downloads, the To list shows which pairs your device can translate and how.

The file is read on your device, and only its visible text is translated: hidden text (white, tiny or off-page text, hidden layers) is left out and listed. Each paragraph, heading, list item, table cell, slide note, line or subtitle cue is translated by your browser’s built-in translator or by a translation model on your device; with a pass, MySmartCoPilot’s cloud can translate short documents too. Names you mark as Keep as written stay untouched, and Fixed translations are always used. You get the same kind of file back — Word and PowerPoint with their styles, Markdown with its formatting, subtitles with their times — plus a translated or bilingual Word file and web page, and for Latin, Greek and Cyrillic languages a PDF in the same layout.

How to use it

  1. Choose your file. For a scanned PDF, tick Read scanned pages and photos first, so its text is read on your device.
  2. Check From (it is set from the file’s text) and choose the language under To. The note under them says what will translate this pair on your device and how big any download is.
  3. Optionally open Names and terms: list names to keep as written, and fixed translations as “term = translation”, one per line.
  4. Press Translate. The first time, the AI panel asks which translator to use (an on-device model shows its download size and asks first). The translation appears beside the original as it is made; Stop keeps what is done.
  5. Check the parts listed under To review. With a pass, download the file you need — the same format, Word, a bilingual Word file or web page, or the PDF in the same layout; the free preview shows the first pages under a watermark.

Examples

A water-supply notice to Hindi
Input
notice.pdf · English → Hindi · Keep as written: Riverside
Result
A Word file of the notice in Hindi with its headings, lists and table, a bilingual Word file with English and Hindi side by side, and a web page to print as PDF with your device’s fonts.
A slide deck for a French client
Input
quarterly-review.pptx · English → French
Result
The same PowerPoint file with every slide title, bullet, table cell and speaker note in French, keeping the theme, layouts and pictures.
Subtitles for a lecture video
Input
lecture.srt · English → Tamil
Result
An SRT file with the same cue times, each cue translated and wrapped back into one or two lines.

Common uses

  • Reading a government notice, contract or letter in your own language before you reply.
  • Sending a client or partner a translated copy of a Word report or a PowerPoint deck.
  • Translating lecture notes, a README or documentation written in Markdown.
  • Making subtitles for a video in another language, with the timings unchanged.
  • Preparing a bilingual handout that shows the original and the translation side by side.

What you can download

  • Word or PowerPoint with their styles: the translation replaces the text of each paragraph inside your own file, so headings, fonts, colours, tables, pictures, slide layouts and speaker notes stay. Right-to-left languages (Urdu, Arabic …) get right-to-left paragraphs.
  • PDF in the same layout (Latin, Greek and Cyrillic languages): each paragraph is covered and the translation is drawn in its place in Noto Sans, smaller when it is longer. It is an approximate layout.
  • Word (translated) and Word (bilingual): the text with its headings, lists and tables, or a two-column table of original and translation for each page or slide.
  • Web pages: bilingual, or the translation alone to print as PDF from your browser, which draws Hindi, Tamil, Arabic, Thai, Chinese and every other script with your device’s fonts.
  • Markdown, text and subtitles in their own format: headings, lists, quotes and table pipes keep their marks, code blocks, front matter and HTML stay as they are, and subtitle times, ids and WebVTT settings are kept.

Where the translation runs

  • Your browser’s built-in translator, on computers whose browser has the language pair: nothing to download.
  • A translation model on your device, downloaded once from MySmartCoPilot after you agree: a small model for English ↔ Hindi, and a larger one (about 600 MB) for about 100 languages. It is faster on a computer than on a phone.
  • MySmartCoPilot’s cloud, with a pass and only if you choose it: a document of up to 5,000 characters, or the first 5,000 characters of a longer one, within the cloud’s daily allowance. A dialog shows what is sent first, and personal details such as e-mail addresses are masked.
  • When none of these has the pair, the page says so and suggests what to try — for example translating through English.

Checking the translation

Each part is checked after it is translated: a translation that is far shorter or longer than its original, that is in the wrong language or still the original, or that lost a protected name is listed under To review, with the reason. Parts that could not be translated stay in the original language and are listed too. Every file says that it is a machine translation: Word, PowerPoint and PDF files carry a mark in their properties, and Markdown, text, web pages and WebVTT files say so in the text.

Limitations

  • One file at a time: up to 50 MB and 300 pages or slides; text files up to 10 MB and subtitles up to 5 MB.
  • Long documents take a while on the device, and longer on a phone than on a computer. You can stop and continue later in the same tab.
  • A paragraph takes the style of its first run, so bold or italic words inside a sentence may lose their style in the Word and PowerPoint files.
  • In the Word and PowerPoint files with their styles, headers, footers, footnotes, comments, charts and SmartArt stay in the original language.
  • The same-layout PDF covers the original text with white boxes, so text on coloured backgrounds or over pictures shows a box; rotated pages are left as they are. For other scripts, use the Word file or the web page.
  • Scanned pages are read with OCR on your device (up to 40 pages per file) and translated into the Word files and web pages, not drawn over the scan.
  • Machine translation can change the meaning: have a human translator check legal, medical and official documents.
  • The translation stays only in this tab: reloading the page clears it.

Privacy

Your file is read and translated on your device: by your browser’s built-in translator where it has the language pair, or by a translation model downloaded once from MySmartCoPilot after you agree (its size is shown first). Only if you choose MySmartCoPilot cloud (with a pass) is text sent to MySmartCoPilot’s cloud translation — a document of up to 5,000 characters, or the first 5,000 characters of a longer one — and a dialog shows exactly what is sent first.

Frequently asked questions

What do I get without a pass?

Without a pass, AI PDF & Document Translator (PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Subtitles) shows the first pages, slides or parts of your file (up to 2, at most half) translated on your device beside the original, under a watermark with copying blocked. Until you unlock it, the result can’t be downloaded. A Pro, Premium or Ultimate pass, a one-time payment that never renews, unlocks the full result. The pricing page lists the passes and their prices.

Is my document uploaded?

No. It is read and translated on your device. Only if you choose MySmartCoPilot cloud, with a pass, is its text — up to 5,000 characters — sent for translation, after a dialog shows exactly what.

Which languages can I translate on my device?

The To list groups the languages by what can translate them from your file’s language: the ones under “On this device” have a translation model you can download once, and the ones under “Only with a browser’s built-in translator” need a desktop browser that has the pair. English ↔ Hindi uses a small model; most other pairs use a larger model of about 600 MB.

Will the translated PDF look like the original?

For Latin, Greek and Cyrillic languages (Spanish, French, German, Russian, Greek …) you can download the PDF in the same layout: each paragraph’s translation is drawn in its place, smaller when it is longer. For Hindi, Tamil, Arabic, Chinese and other scripts that need letter shaping, download the Word file, or the web page and print it to PDF from your browser.

Can it translate a scanned PDF?

Yes: tick “Read scanned pages and photos” before you choose the file, and its text is read on your device first. The translation of scanned pages comes in the Word files and web pages, not over the scan.

How do I keep names and terms as they are?

Open Names and terms. Names under “Keep as written” stay exactly as written, and each “term = translation” line under “Fixed translations” is always used. If a translator drops one, that part is listed under To review.
