About the Split PDF
Split PDF turns one PDF into several smaller ones. Save every page as its own file, cut the document at custom ranges such as 1-3, 4-6, 7-, or break it into equal parts of a few pages each. Before anything is created you see a preview of every resulting file — its pages, its first page and its file name.
Each new file keeps its pages exactly as they were (no re-compression), along with the bookmarks, links and form fields that belong to those pages. The splitting happens in your browser, so the PDF never leaves your device.
How to use it
- Choose a PDF or drag it onto the box.
- Pick how to split it: Every page, Custom ranges (for example
1-3, 4-6, 7-) or Every N pages. - Check the preview of the files that will be created, and change the start of the file names if you like.
- Press Split PDF, then Download all (ZIP) — or download individual files from the list.
Examples
9-page scan, Custom ranges: 1-2, 3-6, 7-
scan-pages-1-2.pdf · scan-pages-3-6.pdf · scan-pages-7-9.pdf
12-page report, Every page
report-page-01.pdf … report-page-12.pdf (in report-split.zip)
Page numbers in the names are zero-padded so the files sort in the right order.
50-page booklet, Every 20 pages
pages 1–20, 21–40 and 41–50 as three files
Common uses
- Pulling individual invoices or payslips out of one combined statement.
- Separating a batch of scanned documents into one file per document.
- Breaking a large PDF into parts that fit an email or upload size limit.
- Saving the odd and even pages separately (
odd, even) for manual double-sided scanning workflows.
Writing custom ranges
Each comma-separated item becomes one file:
1-3— pages 1 to 3 in one file7— page 7 on its own10-— page 10 to the last page;-4— the first four pagesoddoreven— every odd or even page in one file
Tick Also save the pages you didn’t list to get the remaining pages as one more file — handy when you only need to cut a few pages out of a long document. Page numbers mean the position in the file (the first page is 1), not the numbers printed on the pages.
What each new file contains
Pages are copied as they are, so text stays searchable and images keep their resolution. Each file gets the bookmarks that point at its own pages, links between its own pages keep working, and links to pages that ended up in other files are removed. Form fields on the copied pages stay fillable. The title, author and other document properties are copied from the original.
Every file has to contain the fonts and images its pages use, so several small files together can be larger than the original — especially when you split by single pages.
Limitations
- Password-protected or encrypted PDFs can’t be split. Remove the protection first with Unlock PDF (it asks for the password when one is needed; restrictions need the owner password), then split the unlocked copy.
- Accessibility tags, file attachments and page labels are not copied into the new files.
- Very large documents are limited by your device’s memory; the ZIP download is limited to 2 GB.
Privacy
Everything happens in your browser. What you enter or open here is not uploaded or stored by MySmartCoPilot.
Frequently asked questions
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. The PDF is split by your browser on your own device, in a background thread. The new files are created on your device and nothing is sent to MySmartCoPilot or anyone else.
Why are the split files bigger in total than the original?
Pages share fonts and images inside one PDF. When pages go into separate files, each file needs its own copy of what its pages use. The page content itself is never re-compressed or changed.
How do I get just a few pages out of a PDF as one file?
Use Custom ranges with a single item such as 3-5 — or use the page extractor, which can also combine scattered pages like 1, 4, 9-12 into one file.
Can I download the files one at a time instead of a ZIP?
Yes. After splitting, every file in the list has its own Download button — the list shows the first 12 files, and Show all lists the rest (up to 500). The ZIP is simply the convenient way to save all of them at once.
Are bookmarks and links kept?
Yes, as far as they still make sense: each file keeps the bookmarks and internal links that point at its own pages. Links to pages that went into a different file are removed rather than left pointing nowhere.
