About the Insert Pages into PDF

Add pages to a PDF without rebuilding it. Choose pages from another PDF, pictures (PNG, JPEG, WebP, HEIC, TIFF…) or blank sheets, then say exactly where they go: before page 1, after a page you name, at the end, or after every few pages. The pages you already have are left untouched — their text stays text, links keep working, form fields stay fillable and bookmarks still point at the same pages.

Blank and picture pages take the size and rotation of the page they follow, so a separator in an A4 report is A4 and one in a landscape scan is landscape. The preview below the controls shows the page order you will get before you write the file. Everything happens in your browser: the PDF is never uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Choose the PDF you want to add to (drag it onto the box, or press Choose a PDF).
  2. Under What to insert, pick Pages from another PDF (then choose that file and, if you like, type which of its pages), Pictures or Blank pages.
  3. Under Where, choose Before page 1, After page … and type the page number, At the end, or After every … pages for a separator between groups.
  4. Check the page order in The new page order — thumbnails of your pages with the new ones in place — then press Insert pages.
  5. Press Download PDF. The file you chose is never changed; the result is a new copy.

Examples

A signed page back into a contract
Input
contract.pdf (12 pages) · insert page 1 of signed-page-3.pdf · after page 2
Result
13 pages: the signed page sits between pages 2 and 3; the rest of the contract, its links and its bookmarks are unchanged.

To replace page 3 instead of adding to it, insert the new page here, then delete the old one with PDF Page Extractor.

Separator sheets between scanned batches
Input
scans.pdf (40 pages) · 1 blank page · after every 4 pages
Result
49 pages: a blank sheet after pages 4, 8, 12 … 36 (never after the last page), each the size of the page before it.
A photo as a full page
Input
report.pdf (6 A4 pages) · photo site-visit.heic · at the end · same size as the page it follows, 10 mm margin
Result
7 pages: the photo is converted once (losslessly) and centred on an A4 page with a 10 mm white margin.

Common uses

  • Putting a signed, stamped or corrected page back into a document.
  • Adding a cover page, a divider or a “this page intentionally left blank” sheet before printing double-sided.
  • Inserting separator sheets after every few pages so a scanned batch can be split later.
  • Adding photos, drawings or screenshots to a report as full pages.
  • Dropping an appendix or a terms-and-conditions PDF into the middle of an offer.

What stays exactly as it was

The tool changes only the list of pages, so everything else in your PDF survives:

  • Text and pictures stay as they are — nothing is re-compressed or turned into an image.
  • Links inside the document keep working, because bookmarks and links point at page objects, not at page numbers.
  • Bookmarks (the table of contents) still open the same pages; their numbering simply shifts with the pages.
  • Form fields stay fillable, and layers keep their names and visibility.
  • Page labels (front matter numbered i, ii, iii and then 1, 2, 3) move with their pages, so every numbered part still starts on the same page. The inserted pages are numbered as part of the section they follow (before page 1: the first section), so the pages after them in that section count on from them.

Where the new pages can go

  • Before page 1 — a cover, a title page or an instruction sheet.
  • After page N — the usual case: the block goes between page N and page N + 1.
  • At the end — an appendix.
  • After every N pages — a block after page N, 2N, 3N … but never after the last page, because a separator belongs between groups. A 40-page scan with “after every 4 pages” gets 9 separators, not 10.

Several blocks are inserted in one pass, and each one is a fresh copy of the pages you chose, so no page object is used twice. Links between the inserted pages of a block keep working and open that block’s own copy.

Picture pages

PNG and JPEG files go into the PDF exactly as they are, so nothing is re-compressed. WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF, HEIC/HEIF and TIFF are decoded by your browser and written as PNG, which is lossless. A JPEG that carries an EXIF rotation is turned upright first (readers ignore EXIF in a PDF).

A picture is centred on a page the size of the page it follows, with the margin you choose — or the page can be made exactly the size of the picture at its own resolution (300 ppi on a 1,200 × 600 photo gives a 4 × 2 inch page). For a whole folder of pictures as a new document, Image to PDF gives you more layout control.

Limitations

  • A password-protected or encrypted PDF cannot be changed here. Remove the protection with Unlock PDF first.
  • Inserting pages changes the file, so any digital signature in it will show as invalid — keep the original if you need to prove it.
  • One run adds at most 2,000 pages, and the result may have at most 5,000; split the work for anything larger.
  • A link on an inserted page that pointed at a page of the other PDF which was not inserted is removed, so the result carries no invisible extra pages. The report tells you how many went; links between inserted pages keep working.
  • Form fields on pages taken from another PDF keep their look but do not join this document’s form, so they cannot be filled in or read as fields here. To keep them fillable, combine the files with Merge PDF instead.
  • Files up to about 1 GB work on a computer; on a phone keep well below that and close other tabs.
  • The new pages are added as pages — the tool does not reflow or re-number anything printed on the pages themselves.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The file is read and written in your browser with pdf-lib, and the thumbnails are drawn with pdf.js. Nothing is sent to MySmartCoPilot or anyone else, so you can insert pages into confidential documents.

Do my bookmarks and links still work?

Yes. Bookmarks and internal links point at page objects, and the tool never rewrites those pages — it only puts new pages between them. A bookmark that opened chapter 3 still opens chapter 3, wherever it now sits.

Can I insert a page and remove the old one in one go?

Not here: this tool only adds pages. Insert the new page first, then delete the old one with PDF Page Extractor, which also reorders and rotates pages.

What size does a blank page get?

By default the size and rotation of the page it follows (page 1 when it goes before page 1), so a separator matches its neighbours in every reader. You can also pin every new page to page 1’s size, to A4 or to US Letter.

Why is there no separator after the last page?

“After every N pages” puts a block between groups, so a trailing separator would always be one too many. Add one at the end with At the end if you want it.

Can I insert the same page several times?

Yes. Choose the page in the other PDF and “After every N pages”, or run the tool again on the result. Each insertion is a separate copy of the page, which is what the PDF format requires.
