About the Compress PDF to 300KB
Add a PDF and get it back under 300 KB: at most 300,000 bytes, with the sharpest settings that fit. Text, fonts and drawings stay as they are; photos and scans are re-encoded at lower quality and resolution only as far as needed. If even the strongest settings are not enough, the tool shows why and offers page images as a last step.
300 KB is the upper limit for the certificates NEET (UG), JEE (Main) and CUET (UG) ask for — which must also be at least 50 KB — for the passport page and documents of an Indian e-Visa, and for each page of the supporting documents of an online PAN application. Everything runs in your browser: the PDF is never uploaded. Without a pass, the free preview shows the size your PDF reaches and compares up to 3 of its pages with your original, watermarked; the PDF downloads with a pass, or after unlocking this result.
How to use it
- Drop the PDF on the box or choose it. The limit is already set to 300 KB.
- For a black-and-white certificate or ID scan, tick Greyscale: scans get smaller, so they can stay sharper.
- Press Compress and compare the result with the original (zoom in on small print); download it with a pass, or after unlocking this result.
Examples
Scanned certificate, 2.1 MB · 300 KB · Greyscale on
The same page at most 300,000 bytes, at the sharpest settings that fit; check that it is above NTA’s 50 KB minimum too.
Colour scan of the passport’s photo page · 300 KB
A PDF of at most 300,000 bytes, in colour, with the photo and the details readable.
Where 300 KB is the limit
Check the instructions of your own form: limits change from one round to the next.
- NEET (UG), JEE (Main) and CUET (UG) certificates such as the class 10 certificate, category or disability certificate: 50–300 KB, PDF (NEET (UG) information bulletin, JEE (Main) information bulletin, CUET (UG) information bulletin)
- Indian e-Visa scanned passport page and other documents: 10–300 KB, PDF (Indian e-Visa instructions)
- PAN (Protean, online with scanned images) supporting documents: at most 300 KB, PDF, per page, black and white at 200 DPI (PDF/A or JPEG) (Protean scanning specifications)
Between 50 KB and 300 KB (NTA)
NTA refuses certificates below 50 KB as well as above 300 KB. Counting either way, a PDF is safe from 51,200 bytes (50 × 1,024) up to 300,000 bytes (300 × 1,000). This tool only makes files smaller. A PDF that is already under 50 KB needs no compressing; if NTA refuses it as too small, scan it again at a higher resolution, such as 150–200 DPI.
What fits in 300 KB
- Scanned pages are re-encoded down to the resolution that fits, and the result says how readable that is: at 150 DPI or more pages are comfortable to read and fine to print.
- Greyscale saves the most on black-and-white documents. Keep colour for a passport page, where the photo should stay in colour.
- Text PDFs keep their fonts and text exactly; a long report may not fit 300 KB with real text, and the tool says so before it starts.
Other sizes
Compress PDF to Size takes any limit, with buttons for 100 KB, 200 KB, 300 KB, 500 KB, 1 MB and 2 MB. Pages for other sizes: 200 KB · 500 KB. The NEET, JEE and CUET photo and signature are images: the Photo & Signature Resizer makes them.
How this compares
- Runs on your device: your browser tries every setting itself; the PDF is never uploaded.
- See it before you pay: the free preview shows the size your PDF reaches and compares up to 3 of its pages with your original, with a MySmartCoPilot watermark; the PDF you download with a pass, or after unlocking it, holds only your own pages.
- You don’t need an account: no sign-up, no email address and nothing to install.
Limitations
- This tool makes PDFs smaller only; it cannot raise a PDF to a minimum size.
- Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first with Unlock PDF. A digitally signed PDF loses its signature when it is changed.
- Files up to 200 MB. The first use downloads the PDF engines, so it needs an internet connection once.

Frequently asked questions
What do I get without a pass?
Without a pass, Compress PDF to 300KB shows the size your PDF reaches under your limit, with up to 3 of its pages compared with your original as watermarked page images. Until you unlock it, the result can’t be downloaded. A Pro, Premium or Ultimate pass, a one-time payment that never renews, unlocks the full result. The pricing page lists the passes and their prices.
How do I compress a certificate PDF to 300 KB for NEET or JEE?
Add it here: the limit is set to 300 KB. Tick Greyscale for a black-and-white certificate, press Compress and check the preview; the PDF downloads with a pass, or after unlocking this result. The bulletins ask for 50–300 KB, so also check that the result is above 50 KB.
Does the passport PDF for an e-Visa have to be in colour?
The e-Visa instructions set only the format (PDF) and the size (10–300 KB) for the scanned bio page, not a colour rule. Leaving Greyscale off keeps the photo in its colours; either way, make sure the photo and the details are readable in the preview.
Why does a 300 KB PDF show as 293 KB on Windows?
The file is at most 300,000 bytes, and Windows counts 1 KB as 1,024 bytes, so it shows about 293 KB. That way it passes a form either way.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. Every attempt runs in your browser, and the file never leaves your device.
