About the Compress PDF to 500KB
Add a PDF and get it back under 500 KB: at most 500,000 bytes, with the sharpest settings that fit. The larger the limit, the more resolution scanned pages can keep; text, fonts and drawings are never changed. If even the strongest settings are not enough, it shows why and offers page images as a last step.
The IBPS notification, for example, asks for the class 10 certificate as a PDF of A4 pages of at most 500 KB. Everything runs in your browser: the PDF is never uploaded. Without a pass, the free preview shows the size your PDF reaches and compares up to 3 of its pages with your original, watermarked; the PDF downloads with a pass, or after unlocking this result.
How to use it
- Drop the PDF on the box or choose it. The limit is already set to 500 KB.
- For black-and-white pages such as a certificate or a mark sheet, tick Greyscale: scans get smaller, so they can stay sharper.
- Press Compress and compare the result with the original page by page; download it with a pass, or after unlocking this result.
Examples
Scanned certificate on A4, 3.2 MB · 500 KB · Greyscale on
The same A4 pages at most 500,000 bytes, at the sharpest settings that fit.
A 12-page scanned document · 500 KB
The tool shows the smallest size it can reach and how readable it would be; sending only the pages asked for usually works better.
Take out the pages the form asks for with PDF Page Extractor.
Where 500 KB is the limit
Check the instructions of your own form: limits change from one round to the next.
- IBPS class 10 certificate (A4 pages): at most 500 KB, PDF (IBPS notification)
What fits in 500 KB
- Scanned pages are re-encoded down to the resolution that fits, and the result says how readable that is: at 150 DPI or more pages are comfortable to read and fine to print; below about 100 DPI small print gets hard to read.
- Greyscale saves the most on black-and-white documents.
- Text PDFs keep their fonts and text exactly; if those alone are well over the limit, the tool says so before it starts.
- Fewer pages are the surest way to fit: upload only the pages the form asks for.
500 KB: 500,000 or 512,000 bytes?
Forms differ: some count 1 KB as 1,000 bytes, others as 1,024. The file is made at most 500,000 bytes, so it is under 500 KB either way; Windows shows it as about 488 KB.
Other sizes
Compress PDF to Size takes any limit, with buttons for 100 KB, 200 KB, 300 KB, 500 KB, 1 MB and 2 MB. Pages for other sizes: 200 KB · 300 KB. Photos of the pages instead of a PDF? Image to PDF makes one PDF under a size you choose.
How this compares
- Runs on your device: your browser tries every setting itself; the PDF is never uploaded.
- See it before you pay: the free preview shows the size your PDF reaches and compares up to 3 of its pages with your original, with a MySmartCoPilot watermark; the PDF you download with a pass, or after unlocking it, holds only your own pages.
- You don’t need an account: no sign-up, no email address and nothing to install.
Limitations
- Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first with Unlock PDF. A digitally signed PDF loses its signature when it is changed.
- Page images, the last step, remove selectable text, links and form fields; the original file is never changed.
- Files up to 200 MB. The first use downloads the PDF engines, so it needs an internet connection once.

Frequently asked questions
What do I get without a pass?
Without a pass, Compress PDF to 500KB shows the size your PDF reaches under your limit, with up to 3 of its pages compared with your original as watermarked page images. Until you unlock it, the result can’t be downloaded. A Pro, Premium or Ultimate pass, a one-time payment that never renews, unlocks the full result. The pricing page lists the passes and their prices.
How do I compress a PDF to 500 KB?
Add it here: the limit is set to 500 KB. Press Compress and the tool tries settings from the sharpest down until the file is at most 500,000 bytes, then shows the result to compare; the PDF downloads with a pass, or after unlocking this result.
My PDF has many scanned pages. Will it fit?
It depends on how many pages there are and how much detail they hold: the tool tries resolutions down to 72 DPI and says how readable the result is. If small print would get hard to read, upload only the pages the form asks for, or split the document with Split PDF.
Why does a 500 KB PDF show as 488 KB on Windows?
The file is at most 500,000 bytes, and Windows counts 1 KB as 1,024 bytes, so it shows about 488 KB. That way it passes a form either way.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. Every attempt runs in your browser, and the file never leaves your device.
