About the Compress PDF to 200KB
Add a PDF and get it back under 200 KB: at most 200,000 bytes, with the sharpest settings that fit. The tool tries the settings for you — first lossless optimisation, then photos and scans re-encoded at lower quality and resolution — while text, fonts and drawings stay as they are, so the text can still be selected and searched. If even the strongest settings are not enough, it shows why and offers page images as a last step.
IGNOU’s admission form, for example, takes qualification, experience and category certificates of less than 200 KB. Everything runs in your browser: the PDF is never uploaded. Without a pass, the free preview shows the size your PDF reaches and compares up to 3 of its pages with your original, watermarked; the PDF downloads with a pass, or after unlocking this result.
How to use it
- Drop the PDF on the box or choose it. The limit is already set to 200 KB.
- For a black-and-white certificate or form, tick Greyscale: scans get smaller, so they can stay sharper.
- Press Compress and check the result in the Compare preview (zoom in on small print); download it with a pass, or after unlocking this result.
Examples
Phone scan saved as PDF · 200 KB · Greyscale on
The same pages under 200,000 bytes, with the scan re-encoded at the highest quality and resolution that fit.
Two JPGs of the pages
Combine them with Image to PDF and its size limit set to 200 KB, in one step.
Image to PDF: tick Keep the PDF under and type 200.
Where 200 KB is the limit
Check the instructions of your own form: limits change from one round to the next.
- IGNOU admission qualification, experience and category certificates: less than 200 KB, JPG or PDF (IGNOU online admission)
What fits in 200 KB
- Text PDFs saved from Word or a browser are mostly fonts and text, which this tool keeps exactly. If they alone are well over 200 KB, the tool says so before it starts; sending only the pages that are asked for usually works better.
- Scans and photos shrink a lot: the search lowers their JPEG quality and resolution step by step, keeping quality at 54% or more until images are at about 100 DPI.
- Readability: at 150 DPI or more pages are comfortable to read and fine to print; below about 100 DPI small print gets hard to read, and the result says so.
- Greyscale helps black-and-white documents most: certificates, forms, letters and ID scans.
200 KB: 200,000 or 204,800 bytes?
Forms differ: some count 1 KB as 1,000 bytes, others as 1,024. The file is made at most 200,000 bytes, so it is under 200 KB either way — and IGNOU’s “less than 200 KB” is met too unless the file is exactly 200,000 bytes long, which the search makes very unlikely. Windows shows 200,000 bytes as about 195 KB.
Other sizes
Compress PDF to Size takes any limit, with buttons for 100 KB, 200 KB, 300 KB, 500 KB, 1 MB and 2 MB. Pages for other sizes: 300 KB · 500 KB. For a photo instead of a PDF, use Compress Image to 200KB.
How this compares
- Runs on your device: your browser tries every setting itself; the PDF is never uploaded.
- See it before you pay: the free preview shows the size your PDF reaches and compares up to 3 of its pages with your original, with a MySmartCoPilot watermark; the PDF you download with a pass, or after unlocking it, holds only your own pages.
- You don’t need an account: no sign-up, no email address and nothing to install.
Limitations
- Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first with Unlock PDF. A digitally signed PDF loses its signature when it is changed.
- Page images, the last step, remove selectable text, links and form fields; the original file is never changed.
- Files up to 200 MB. The first use downloads the PDF engines, so it needs an internet connection once.
Privacy
Everything happens in your browser. What you enter or open here is not uploaded or stored by MySmartCoPilot.
Frequently asked questions
What do I get without a pass?
Without a pass, Compress PDF to 200KB shows the size your PDF reaches under your limit, with up to 3 of its pages compared with your original as watermarked page images. Until you unlock it, the result can’t be downloaded. A Pro, Premium or Ultimate pass, a one-time payment that never renews, unlocks the full result. The pricing page lists the passes and their prices.
How do I compress a PDF to 200 KB?
Add it here: the limit is set to 200 KB. Press Compress and the tool tries settings from the sharpest down until the file is at most 200,000 bytes, then shows the result to compare; the PDF downloads with a pass, or after unlocking this result.
Will the text still be readable and selectable?
Yes: text, fonts and drawings are kept exactly; only photos and scans are re-encoded. Only page images, which the tool offers when nothing else fits, turn text into pictures.
Why does my 200 KB PDF show as 195 KB on my computer?
The file is at most 200,000 bytes, and Windows counts 1 KB as 1,024 bytes, so it shows about 195 KB. That way it passes a form either way.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. Every attempt runs in your browser, and the file never leaves your device.
