Answers and solutions
The student link carries the questions only — never the answer key, because anything inside a link can be read by whoever holds it. Each student sends you a short response code; paste those under Results. After the test you can release the solutions code below, which lets students mark their own attempt and read your explanations.

- The clock starts when you press Start and does not stop. When it reaches zero the test is submitted as it stands.
- Your answers stay in this browser. Nothing is uploaded: at the end you get a short response code to send to your teacher.
- Your teacher’s answer key is not in this link, so this page cannot show you your marks until your teacher releases the solutions code.

About the CBT Test Studio for Teachers & Coaching Institutes (India)
Build a computer-based test for your class, send one link, and mark everything in your own browser. The test runs on the same screen as the CBT Exam Simulator — a countdown, a question palette, marking for review, section switching and negative marking — so students who practise there meet exactly the screen you set.
There is no server and no account. The questions travel inside the part of the link after the #, which browsers never send to a server. The answer key never goes into the link, because anything inside a link can be read by whoever holds it: each student finishes with a short response code, you paste those codes in, and your browser marks them against the key that never left your device. Afterwards you can release a solutions code so students can mark their own attempt and read your explanations.
Type questions in, or import them from Word, a sheet or plain text. Each question can have a Hindi version, its own marks and its own negative marking. When the responses are in you get a rank list, class statistics and a question-by-question analysis — how many answered each question correctly and how well it separated the stronger from the weaker scores.
How to use it
- Under Build, name the test, set the time and the default marks, and tick the Hindi box if you will add Hindi text.
- Add questions: one answer, more than one answer, true or false or a number with an allowed difference. Mark the right option, and add an explanation for the solutions.
- Or import them: paste them in the documented text format, drop a
.csvsheet (a sample sheet is one button away) or a Word.docxfile. Anything that cannot be read is listed line by line instead of being dropped silently. - Open Send and press Try it as a student to sit your own test on the real screen before anyone else does.
- With a pass, or after unlocking this result, copy the student link and send it to your class.
- Collect the response codes students send back, paste them under Results, and press Mark these responses to get the rank list, the class statistics and the question analysis. Without a pass the free preview shows the class summary in full and the first rows of the rank list and of the question analysis.
- Release the solutions code afterwards if you want students to mark their own attempt and read your explanations.
Examples
# Quantitative 1. What is 15% of 480? A) 64 B) 72 * C) 76 Explanation: 480 × 15 ÷ 100 = 72.
One section “Quantitative” with one question, option B right, and the explanation attached
A * marks the right option; Answer: B does the same. Marks: 2 / 0.5 sets the marks and the negative marks of the question above it, and Hindi: … adds its Hindi text.
Q. What is the lowest common multiple of 12 and 18? Answer: 36, 0
A number question with the answer 36 and no allowed difference — a student types the number in
The second figure after the answer is the allowed difference: Answer: 3.14, 0.01 accepts anything from 3.13 to 3.15.
30 responses; question 7 answered correctly by 40%, and by 20% of the top third against 60% of the bottom third
Right 40% · separates −40 → “The weaker scores got it right more often than the stronger ones — check the key and the wording.”
A negative separation figure is the classic sign of a wrong key or a misleading option.
2 marks a question, 0.5 off for a wrong answer: 8 right, 3 wrong, 1 left
8 × 2 − 3 × 0.5 = 14.5 of 24 marks
Common uses
- A weekly class test that students take at home on their phones, marked in minutes instead of an evening.
- A coaching institute that wants its own test series on the screen students will meet in the examination.
- A bilingual test: every question in English and Hindi, with students switching language on the test screen.
- Finding the questions that did not work — too easy, too hard, or with a key that needs checking.
- A printed paper with its answer key, for the students who will sit it on paper instead.
Why the answer key is not in the student link
Compression is not encryption. Anything inside a link — however it is packed — can be unpacked by whoever holds the link, and a student who can read the key can read it before the test. So the link carries the questions only, and the key stays in your browser.
That is also why results are self-reported: each student’s browser packs their answers into a response code, and they send it to you. It is the same trust as a take-home paper. For a test where the marks matter, supervise it, or use a printed paper.
The screen counts how often a student switched away from the tab and the results show it, which is worth knowing — but a browser cannot see the room, a second device or a book, so nothing here is invigilation.
What a link can carry, and what to do when a test is long
Everything is inside the address, so a long test makes a long link. The Send screen shows the length and warns when a link passes about 2,000 characters, which is where messaging apps start to cut them. Then: send the link as a file (one button), split a long paper into two tests, or shorten the questions. Twelve to thirty short questions fit comfortably in a message.
Because the test lives in the link and not on a server, it never expires and it cannot be taken down. Keep the link, and keep your own copy of the test with Save this test as a file.
Importing questions
- Plain text (and Word, which is read as text): one question a line, options as
A),B)…, a*after the right one or anAnswer:line.# Headingstarts a section.Marks: 2 / 0.5,Explanation: …andHindi: …apply to the question above them. - A sheet (
.csv): a header row with at least aquestioncolumn, plus any ofsection, option a…option e,correct, marks, negative, explanationandquestion hindi.correctis a letter (B), several letters (B,CorB|C), or the number itself for a question that wants a number. A sample sheet is one button away. - What cannot be read is reported, with the line or row number and what is wrong with it; the questions that could be read are added.
The questions must be yours to use. Examining bodies control the use of their papers — the National Testing Agency’s copyright policy asks for its permission before its material is reproduced — so do not import a question paper you have no right to use.
What the class analysis measures
- Rank list: marks with your negative marking, the right, partly right and wrong counts, accuracy (fully right answers out of the questions a student answered — half-answering a “more than one answer” question never reads as 100%), the time their browser recorded, and the marks of each section.
- Class statistics: the average, the highest, the lowest and the median mark.
- Right % for each question (its facility value): how many of the responses got it right. Below about 20% a question is probably too hard for this class or has a problem; above about 90% it separates nobody.
- Separates (the discrimination index): the share of the top third who got it right minus the share of the bottom third. A high positive figure means the question tells the stronger answers from the weaker ones; a negative figure is the classic sign of a wrong key or a misleading option.
- The most common wrong answer, so you can see which distractor is doing the damage.
With fewer than about three responses no figure means much, and the page says so instead of pretending otherwise.
Students, privacy and children
Nothing is uploaded and no account exists: the test is in the link, the answers are in each student’s browser, and the response code is handed over by the student. The only thing a student types about themselves is the name or roll number you ask for — which goes into their response code and nowhere else.
School tests often involve people under 18, and India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act sets extra rules for children’s data. This tool stores nothing on a server at all, which is why it can work this way; if a later version ever offers to keep results for you, that will need its own legal review and its own consent. Ask only for a roll number rather than a full name where you can, and keep the marked results wherever your school already keeps marks.
Where this fits with the other tools
The CBT Exam Simulator is the same screen with sample papers, for students to practise on.
Limitations
- Results are self-reported: students send you their own response codes. A browser cannot invigilate, so a test whose marks matter should be supervised or sat on paper.
- Switching tabs is counted and reported, nothing more. There is no camera, no screen watching and no lock-down.
- A long test makes a long link: above about 2,000 characters messaging apps may cut it, so send the file instead or split the paper.
- One clock for the whole test: section-wise timing and section locking are not available.
- Importing reads plain text, a sheet and Word text. Images, equations as pictures, tables inside a question and complex formatting are not imported.
- The questions must be yours to use: examining bodies ask for their permission before their papers are reproduced.
- Nothing is stored for you. If you clear this browser’s data without saving the test as a file, the test is gone.
Privacy
There is no server in this tool. The test lives inside the link’s fragment, which browsers never send anywhere; your answer key, your draft and the responses you paste stay in your own browser (the draft is kept in this browser until you start a new test). Students’ answers stay on their devices until they send you their response code themselves. No account, no camera, no microphone, and nothing about a student beyond the name or roll number they type.
Frequently asked questions
What do I get without a pass?
Without a pass, CBT Test Studio for Teachers & Coaching Institutes (India) shows the whole test built and runnable on this page, the class summary in full, and the first rows of the rank list and the question analysis (up to 10). Until you unlock it, the result can’t be downloaded, copied or printed. A Premium pass, a one-time payment that never renews, unlocks the full result. The pricing page lists the passes and their prices.
Do my students need an account or an app?
No. They open the link in any browser, take the test and get a response code to send you. Nothing is installed and nobody signs in.
Can a student read the answers out of the link?
No — the link carries the questions only. The key stays in your browser and is used there to mark the codes students send back. If you want students to see the answers afterwards, release the solutions code.
How do the results come back to me?
Each student’s browser packs their answers into a short response code when they submit. They copy it to you however you already talk to your class, you paste the codes under Results, and your browser marks them all at once.
Can I stop students from looking things up?
No, and no browser tool honestly can. The screen notes how often a student left the tab, and that is all. For a test where the marks count, supervise it or use a printed paper.
Can one test be in English and Hindi?
Yes. Tick the Hindi box and add the Hindi text of each question, option and section name; students then get a language switch on the test screen. Questions without Hindi text stay in English for everyone.
How many questions and students can it handle?
Up to 300 questions in a test, and as many students as you have codes for — marking happens in your browser, so no account limit applies. The practical limit is the length of the link: watch the figure on the Send screen.
Is anything stored on a server?
No. There is no server in this tool: the test is in the link, your draft and key are in your browser, and the students’ answers are in theirs until they send you a code.
