About the Mock Interview Practice & Feedback

Practise a job interview the way it really runs: one question at a time, with time to think and a clock for the answer. Choose your role (software, data, product, sales, marketing, support, HR, finance, banking, teaching, design, operations, core engineering or any role), your level from fresher to manager, and the interview format — a campus placement or a job change interview in India, a competency-based interview as many employers run them worldwide, or a phone screen. Answer by typing or by speaking, and the questions can be read aloud like an interviewer.

Every answer is scored against a rubric of six criteria — structure (STAR for “Tell me about a time…” questions), specific evidence, ownership, relevance to what interviewers look for, length and clarity and tone — with what worked, what to change and an outline of a stronger answer. The session ends with your overall score, an improvement plan that names the questions to practise again, and your progress across sessions.

The 194 questions, with 717 key points interviewers listen for, were written for MySmartCoPilot, and the scoring runs in your browser with no AI. Paste a job description to add questions about the skills it asks for, or, if you choose, let MySmartCoPilot’s AI tailor questions to it and coach a single answer.

How to use it

  1. Choose your role, experience and interview format, the kind of questions, how many, and whether you will type or speak your answers. Paste the job description if you have one — or press Try a sample interview to see the feedback first.
  2. Press Start the interview. Each question appears (and is read aloud if you ticked it); use the thinking time, then answer before the clock runs out. Open What they look for whenever you want a hint.
  3. Press Next question after each answer, Skip to move on, or End and see feedback at any time. Your answers are kept in this browser as you go, so a reload does not lose them.
  4. Read your overall score, the criteria, the feedback on each answer and your improvement plan, then Practise again with new questions. Save my answers keeps your own answers in a file.
  5. Copying the feedback, the feedback file, the preparation pack PDF and the progress CSV unlock with a Pro pass; without one the page shows a free preview of your own feedback.

Examples

A strong STAR answer
Input
Tell me about a time you worked in a team to deliver something under a tight deadline. — “In my final year at college, our team of four had to build a library app for a local school in three weeks. My role was to build the backend and to keep the team on track. I split the work into weekly goals… As a result, we delivered two days early, the school now uses it for 300 students… I learned to flag a risk early.”
Result
92/100 · Strong. STAR: Situation, Task, Action and Result all found; evidence “three weeks”, “two days”, “300 students”; all five key points covered.
A vague answer, and what to change
Input
The same question — “We worked as a team and we did a lot of things. We managed everything and finished the project. It was good.”
Result
27/100 · Needs work. Missing in STAR: Situation, Task, Action; no numbers; mostly “we” (3) rather than “I” (0); none of the five key points covered.

Each note says what to add: where you were, what you were responsible for, the steps you took yourself, and a result with a number.

A cliché weakness
Input
What is your biggest weakness? — “My biggest weakness is that I am a perfectionist and I work too hard.”
Result
38/100 · Needs work. Flagged: a cliché weakness sounds rehearsed. Not covered yet: what you are doing about it, and evidence that it is getting better.

Common uses

  • Final-year students preparing for campus placement HR and technical rounds.
  • Experienced people preparing for a job change: notice period, CTC, “Why are you leaving?” and role questions.
  • Anyone facing a competency-based interview who wants every story in STAR form with a number in it.
  • Practising answers aloud before a phone or video screen, with a clock and a steady pace.
  • Career changers checking that their answers mention the skills a job description asks for.

How each answer is scored

Six criteria, each from 0 to 5, combined into a score out of 100 with weights that depend on the type of question:

  • Structure — the four parts of a strong answer of its type: Situation, Task, Action and Result for behavioural questions; clarify, options, action and outcome for situational ones; a definition, how it works, an example and a trade-off for technical ones; a direct answer, a reason, evidence and a link to the job for HR questions. It counts 25% of a behavioural answer.
  • Specific evidence — figures (amounts, percentages, counts and durations; a year on its own is not counted), named tools and organisations, examples, and few vague words such as “things” or “stuff”.
  • Ownership and confidence — “I” rather than “we” for what you did, first-person action verbs, and few hedges such as “I think” or “maybe”.
  • Relevance — how many of the question’s key points the answer covers, matched on word stems so “prioritised” and “prioritized” both count, plus the words of the question itself. It counts 35% of a technical answer.
  • Length — full marks inside the question’s word range (a story about 110 to 320 words, roughly one to two and a half minutes spoken); less when much shorter or longer.
  • Clarity and tone — sentence length, fillers (“um”, “you know”), repeats, the pace of a spoken answer, and red flags: speaking badly of a past employer, a cliché weakness, money as the main reason, very casual words.

An answer that covers none of the question’s key points and hardly uses its words scores 35 at most, whatever its structure and tone, because off the question it would not pass. The session’s score is the average over the questions you reached; a skipped or empty answer counts as zero, because in an interview it would. Bands: 80 and above Strong, 60–79 Good, 40–59 Developing, below 40 Needs work. These are MySmartCoPilot’s practice bands, not a measure any employer uses.

The STAR method

For “Tell me about a time…” questions, the National Careers Service describes STAR as the situation you had to deal with, the task you were given, the action you took, and what happened as a result of your action and what you learned. The feedback finds each part from what you said, and What interviewers look for lists the points a strong answer to that question covers. Spend most of the answer on your own actions, and end with a result you can put a number on.

Interview formats

  • Campus placement (India) — HR and technical rounds for freshers: tell me about yourself, your final-year project and internship, relocation and shifts, service agreements and plans for higher studies, plus technical basics for the role.
  • Job change interview (India) — for experienced hires: your projects, why you are moving, your notice period and current and expected CTC.
  • Competency-based interview — mostly behavioural questions on competencies such as teamwork, conflict, ownership and influence, answered with STAR.
  • Phone or video screen — a short first call: introduction, motivation, salary expectations and a few role questions.

Mixed and HR sessions open with “Tell me about yourself” and, from ten questions, close with “Do you have any questions for us?”; questions you were asked in recent sessions come last, so each session feels new.

Questions from a job description

Paste a job advert and the page finds the tools, skills and soft skills it asks for from a list of 103 — SQL, Excel, Power BI, Python, GST, Tally, SEO, stakeholder management, communication and more — whole words only and most-mentioned first. The top ones become STAR questions such as “The job asks for SQL. Walk me through a piece of work you did with SQL…”, and the feedback lists which of the job’s skills your answers mentioned and which they never did. This needs no AI and sends nothing.

If you choose AI from this job, MySmartCoPilot’s cloud AI writes up to six questions tailored to the advert from the role and the job description, which is all it sends. Its questions are checked before you see them: any that touch age, marital or family status, religion, caste, origin, health or other protected characteristics are left out, as structured interviews should be job-related (US Office of Personnel Management).

Why practise this way

Employers that run structured interviews ask every candidate the same job-related questions and rate the answers against the same standards, which the research on selection finds more predictive of job performance than unstructured conversation (Levashina, Hartwell, Morgeson and Campion in Personnel Psychology). Practising to the same structure — a clear story, your own actions, a measurable result — prepares you for exactly that, and timing yourself keeps answers to a length an interviewer can follow.

Limitations

  • The rubric measures what an answer shows — its structure, figures, wording and length — not whether the experience behind it is real or how an interviewer will judge it. It is practice feedback, not a hiring decision.
  • Feedback reads answers in English. Answers in other scripts are kept but not scored.
  • Speech recognition can mishear names and technical terms and often leaves out “um” and “uh”: read and correct the text in the answer box before you go on.
  • Spoken answers need a browser with speech recognition; where there is none, type your answer or use the microphone key of your phone’s keyboard.
  • Key points come from MySmartCoPilot’s question bank; a strong answer can make its point in words the bank does not list, so read the notes as hints rather than marks.
  • Your answers and progress are kept only in this browser. Clearing the browser’s site data removes them; use Save my answers for anything you want to keep.

Privacy

Cloud AI only if you choose it: you see what is sent first

Your set-up, your answers and your progress (scores only) stay in this browser’s storage until you clear them; nothing is uploaded. The microphone listens only during the answers of a speaking session, from your first press of Speak your answer until you press Stop speaking or move on (each later answer then listens by itself): your browser recognises speech on this device when it can, and otherwise sends the audio to its maker’s speech service — MySmartCoPilot never receives it, and no recording is kept. Questions read aloud use your browser’s voices; if it has only online voices, it sends MySmartCoPilot’s question text, never your answers. The optional AI steps send only what they need: the role and the job description for AI questions, or one answer with its question for the AI coach, with email addresses and phone numbers masked first.

Frequently asked questions

What do I get without a pass?

Without a pass, Mock Interview Practice & Feedback shows your overall score and counts in full, rubric feedback on the first half of your answers (up to 5), the first rows of each table and the pack as marked pages. Until you unlock it, the result can’t be downloaded or copied. A Pro, Premium or Ultimate pass, a one-time payment that never renews, unlocks the full result. The pricing page lists the passes and their prices.

Is this a real interview score?

No. It is MySmartCoPilot’s practice rubric: it checks the structure, evidence, ownership, relevance, length and tone of each answer and shows exactly why. Employers use their own scales, and a person decides; the rubric helps you practise the habits those scales reward.

What is the STAR method?

A way to answer “Tell me about a time…” questions: the Situation, your Task, the Action you took and the Result, with what you learned. Keep the situation and task short, spend most of the time on your own actions, and end with a result you can measure.

Do I need AI to use it?

No. The question bank, the questions built from a job description, the timer and all the scoring work without AI. AI is optional: tailored questions from your job description, and a coach that rewrites one of your answers in STAR order without adding facts.

Can I speak my answers?

Yes, in browsers with speech recognition. Your words appear in the answer box as you speak and you can correct them; spoken answers also get their pace in words a minute. Where the browser cannot recognise speech on the device, it uses its maker’s online service, as the note by the microphone says.

Does it work for campus placements in India?

Yes. Choose Campus placement (India) and Fresher or campus: the session mixes HR questions (tell me about yourself, your project and internship, relocation and shifts, service agreements, higher studies) with technical basics for your role, and the checklist in the preparation pack covers what to carry.

What is in the preparation pack?

A PDF with your session’s scores and the feedback on every answer, your improvement plan, a seven-day preparation plan fitted to your weakest areas and the job’s skills, practice questions for your role with what interviewers look for and an outline of each answer, a STAR story worksheet to fill in by hand, questions to ask the interviewer, and a checklist for your interview format.

Do I need a pass?

To copy or download the full feedback, the preparation pack and the progress CSV, yes: a Pro pass unlocks every Pro tool. Without a pass you can practise as much as you like and you see a free preview of your own feedback: your overall score and counts in full, rubric feedback on the first half of your answers (up to 5), the first rows of each table and the pack as marked pages.
