About the PowerPoint to JPG (Slides to Images)

Choose a PowerPoint presentation (.pptx, .ppsx or .potx) and get every slide, or the slides you pick, as a JPG or PNG picture — for Instagram carousels, WhatsApp, a website, a thumbnail or a video editor. Pick 720p, 1080p, 1440p or 4K (the shorter side of the picture, so a 16:9 slide at 1080p is 1,920 × 1,080 pixels) or type any width, and the pictures keep the shape of your slides.

The slides are laid out on your device with the same reader as our Office Document Viewer: theme colours and fonts, layouts and masters, pictures cropped as in the deck, tables, charts redrawn from the values saved in the file, and SmartArt as PowerPoint saved it. Nothing is uploaded. Without a pass, the free preview shows the first slide pictures at reduced size with a MySmartCoPilot watermark, and the size of every picture; with a pass, or after unlocking this result, you get each full picture or one ZIP named slide-01, slide-02 and so on.

How to use it

  1. Choose a .pptx file or drop it on the box. On a phone, save the attachment from WhatsApp or your e-mail app first, then pick it from Files or Downloads.
  2. Pick the slides (all, or for example 1-5, 8), JPG or PNG, and the size. JPG suits photos and sharing; PNG keeps text and drawings lossless, and can leave the slide background out for a transparent picture.
  3. Press Convert to pictures. The free preview shows the first slides with a watermark; with a pass, or after unlocking this result, download each picture or all of them as one ZIP.

Examples

A 10-slide 16:9 deck for an Instagram carousel
Input
Launch.pptx · all slides · JPG · 1080p
Result
slide-01.jpg … slide-10.jpg, each 1,920 × 1,080 px, in “Launch (JPG pictures).zip”
One 4:3 slide as a transparent logo-style picture
Input
Brand.pptx · slide 3 · PNG · transparent background · custom width 1600
Result
slide-03.png, 1,600 × 1,200 px, with the slide background left out

Pictures keep the slide’s shape: a 4:3 slide is 4 units wide for every 3 units of height.

Common uses

  • Posting a presentation as an image carousel on Instagram or LinkedIn, or slide by slide on WhatsApp.
  • Putting slides into a video editor, a document or a website that does not take .pptx files.
  • Making thumbnails or cover pictures from a title slide.
  • Saving a diagram drawn in PowerPoint as a transparent PNG.

Sizes in pixels

The presets name the shorter side of the picture, as video sizes do: 720p, 1080p, 1440p and 2160p (4K). A widescreen 16:9 slide becomes 1,280 × 720, 1,920 × 1,080, 2,560 × 1,440 or 3,840 × 2,160 pixels; a 4:3 slide at 1080p is 1,440 × 1,080. With Custom width you type the width and the height follows the slide shape.

Browsers limit how large one picture may be, so each picture is kept within what yours can make: about 16.7 megapixels and 8,192 pixels a side in Safari and on phones and tablets, and 50 megapixels in other browsers on computers. A size above that is made at the largest size allowed, and the page tells you which.

How the slides are drawn

A .pptx file is a ZIP archive of XML parts (Office Open XML, ECMA-376). Each slide is read with what it inherits from its layout and master, laid out as a web page at the slide’s own size, and painted into a picture at the size you chose — so text stays sharp at 4K. The file never leaves your device, and nothing in it runs: macros and embedded objects are only noted.

Limitations

  • Fonts that are not on your device are replaced with look-alikes (Calibri with Carlito or another sans-serif), so a line can break differently than in PowerPoint; the page lists the fonts it could not find.
  • Animations, transitions, audio and video are left out: video shows its poster picture, and every shape is drawn where it sits on the slide.
  • Pictures in EMF or WMF format (common in decks made with older Office versions) can’t be drawn by browsers and appear as labelled boxes; charts are redrawn from their saved values in a simpler style; 3-D effects and shadows are drawn flat.
  • Legacy PowerPoint 97–2003 (.ppt) files and password-protected presentations are not opened: save them as an unprotected .pptx first. Some versions of Safari on iPhone and iPad can’t make pictures from slides; the page then offers PowerPoint to PDF followed by PDF to JPG.

Frequently asked questions

What do I get without a pass?

Without a pass, PowerPoint to JPG (Slides to Images) shows the first slide pictures (up to 3) at preview size with a MySmartCoPilot watermark, and the size of every picture. Until you unlock it, the result can’t be downloaded. A Pro, Premium or Ultimate pass, a one-time payment that never renews, unlocks the full result. The pricing page lists the passes and their prices.

Is my presentation uploaded?

No. The file is opened and every slide is drawn in your browser; the pictures are made on your device and nothing is sent anywhere.

What size should I choose?

1080p (1,920 × 1,080 for a widescreen slide) suits screens, social media and video. Choose 720p for small files and WhatsApp, and 1440p or 4K for print, zooming or large displays.

Can I get a transparent background?

Yes: choose PNG and tick Transparent background. The slide’s background colour, gradient or picture is left out, so only its shapes, text and pictures remain.

Are hidden slides included?

Not with “all”: like a slide show, the tool skips hidden slides unless you tick Include hidden slides, or type their numbers in the slide box.

Can I convert an old .ppt file?

Not directly. Open it in PowerPoint, LibreOffice Impress or Google Slides, save it as PowerPoint Presentation (.pptx), then convert that file here.
