    About the Photo Collage Maker

Put 2 to 20 photos into one picture. Choose a template made for the number of photos you have — even rows and columns, one large photo with the others beside or below it, or a brick pattern — or set a free grid of rows and columns. Drag a photo to choose which part shows in its box, zoom in on it, drop it on another box to swap them, and add captions, a title, spacing, rounded corners and a background colour.

Save it for Instagram and WhatsApp (1:1, 4:5, 9:16 or 16:9 at 1080 px, or 2× for extra sharpness) or as a 300-DPI print (4 × 6 in, 5 × 7 in or A4). Contact sheet mode lays out up to 200 photos as labelled thumbnails on A4 or Letter pages. Everything happens in your browser: your photos are never uploaded.

    How to use it

    1. Choose, drop or paste 2–20 photos. They appear in the tray in the order you chose them; the arrows under each thumbnail change the order.
    2. Pick a template (or Grid for your own rows and columns). Photos fill the boxes in tray order.
    3. Click a box to select it. Drag the photo to move it inside the box, or drop it on another box to swap them; pinch, Ctrl + scroll or the Zoom slider zooms in. Choose Whole photo to show a photo without cropping. Click a photo in the tray to swap it into the selected box, or drag it from the tray onto any box.
    4. Set the spacing, corners, background, captions and title, then choose the size and format and select Download (or Copy image).
    5. For a contact sheet, choose Contact sheet at the top, add your photos (up to 200), pick the page size and columns, and download a page or all pages as a ZIP.

    Common uses

    • Instagram and Facebook posts and stories showing several photos from a trip or event.
    • WhatsApp status and greeting collages for birthdays, weddings and festivals.
    • A 4 × 6 in or A4 print of family photos from a photo lab or a home printer.
    • Before-and-after and product comparison images.
    • Contact sheets for photographers, school events and photo archives.

Sizes for social posts and prints

    • Square 1:1 (1080 × 1080) and Portrait 4:5 (1080 × 1350) are the usual sizes for Instagram and Facebook feed posts; a portrait post takes more room in the feed than a square one.
    • Story 9:16 (1080 × 1920) suits stories, reel covers and WhatsApp status; Landscape 16:9 (1920 × 1080) suits YouTube, presentations and screens.
    • High resolution (2×) doubles the social sizes for sharper results on high-density screens.
    • Print sizes are made at 300 pixels per inch: 4 × 6 in is 1200 × 1800 px, 5 × 7 in is 1500 × 2100 px and A4 is 2480 × 3508 px. JPG and PNG files carry the 300 DPI setting, so print dialogs show the right size: print at 100% / Actual size.
    • Custom size takes any width and height up to the limits of your device.

    Arranging the photos

Each box shows its photo in one of two ways. Fill (the default) covers the box and crops what does not fit: drag the photo to choose which part shows, and zoom in up to 5×. Whole photo shows all of it, with the background colour around it. Selecting a box also lets you give it a one-line caption, which is shortened with “…” if it is too long for the box.

With the keyboard, focus the preview and use [ and ] to select a box, the arrow keys to move its photo (Shift for bigger steps) and + / − to zoom.

Photos fill the boxes in the order shown in the tray, so when you change the template they keep their order, and each photo keeps its position, zoom and caption.

    Contact sheets

A contact sheet is a page of small prints of many photos, each labelled with its file name, so you can review a shoot, pick the photos to print or keep a printed index of an album. Choose the page (A4 or US Letter at 300 DPI, or a square image), the number of columns and the thumbnail shape; photos are shown whole, never cropped. Add pixel sizes under the names if you need them. Pages are numbered, and you can download the current page or every page in one ZIP.

    Quality and memory

The preview is drawn from small copies so editing stays smooth; the saved image is drawn again from your original photos, one at a time, so it is as sharp as the photos allow. Photos over 24 megapixels and HEIC photos are drawn from a copy 3600 pixels on the long side, which is still more than an A4 page needs at 300 DPI. On phones and tablets, collages are limited to about 16.7 megapixels and 8,192 pixels a side — the largest canvas older iPhones and iPads allow, and a safe amount of phone memory — so very large custom sizes are refused there with a clear message rather than failing part-way.

    Limitations

    • A collage holds up to 20 photos and a contact sheet up to 200.
    • Photos over 24 megapixels, and HEIC photos, are drawn from a copy 3600 px on the long side.
    • Captions are one line of text per box; for styled text, use Add Text to Image on the saved collage.
    • Layouts are rectangular boxes; photos cannot overlap or be rotated freely.
    • Wide-colour (Display P3) photos are saved in standard sRGB colour, which can look slightly less vivid.
    • Copying the image to the clipboard needs a browser that supports it; Download always works.

    Frequently asked questions

    Are my photos uploaded?

No. The collage is drawn in your browser and saved straight to your device, so your photos never leave it. After the page has loaded once, it also works offline — except opening HEIC photos in browsers other than Safari and saving WebP in Safari, which download a decoder or encoder from this site the first time they are needed.

What size should an Instagram collage be?

Use Portrait 4:5 (1080 × 1350 px) to take more space in the feed than a square post, Square (1080 × 1080 px) for a classic grid post, or Story 9:16 (1080 × 1920 px) for stories and reels. Turn on High resolution (2×) for a sharper file at the same shape.

    How do I print a collage at 4 × 6 inches or on A4?

Choose 4 × 6 in print or A4 as the size and save as JPG. The file is made at 300 DPI, which photo labs and kiosks print at the right size; at home, choose 100% / Actual size in the print dialog rather than “Fit to page”.

Why is part of my photo cut off?

In Fill mode a photo covers its whole box, so a photo of a different shape is cropped. Drag it to choose which part shows, or select Whole photo to fit it entirely, with the background colour around it.

Can I add more photos than there are boxes?

Yes. Pick a template for more photos, use Grid to add rows or columns, or select a box and click a tray thumbnail to choose which photo it shows. Photos not in a box are not saved in the collage.

Does it work with iPhone HEIC photos?

Yes. Safari opens them directly; in other browsers a HEIC decoder (about 1.4 MB) is downloaded from this site the first time, and the photo is still processed on your device.
