Print preview
In the print dialog that opens:
- Set Destination (or Printer) to Save as PDF — on Windows you can also pick Microsoft Print to PDF.
- Keep Margins on Default and Scale at 100%: the page size and margins you chose here are already applied.
- Turn on Background graphics if colours or shading are missing, and turn off the browser’s own Headers and footers if you don’t want its date and address lines.
- On iPhone or iPad, use the share button in the print screen and choose Save to Files.
About the Excel to PDF Converter (XLSX, CSV)
Choose an Excel workbook (.xlsx or .xlsm) or a CSV file and get a PDF that looks like the sheet: fonts, bold and italic text, fill colours, borders, merged cells, column widths, row heights, wrapped text and number formats — dates, currencies, percentages and Indian digit grouping such as 12,34,567.50 — as Excel shows them.
The sheet’s own print setup is used: print areas, rows repeated at the top of every page (print titles), manual page breaks, page size, orientation, margins, gridlines, centring and the header and footer with page numbers. You can override any of it — for example Fit to page width, which keeps every column on the page and is what most people want. The PDF is written in your browser, so the workbook never leaves your device.
How to use it
- Drop a workbook or CSV file onto the box above, or tap Choose a spreadsheet.
- Tick the Sheets to convert (hidden sheets are listed but not ticked). Each sheet starts on a new page.
- Check the Page setup: page size, orientation, scaling, margins, gridlines and the rows to repeat at the top of each page. “As set in the file” uses the workbook’s own settings.
- Press Convert to PDF, then Download PDF. Sheets with text in Hindi and other scripts that need shaping open as a print preview instead — press Save as PDF and choose Save as PDF in the print dialog.
Examples
Prices.xlsx — 14 columns, 600 rows, header in row 1
An A4 PDF scaled to fit all 14 columns on the page width, with row 1 repeated at the top of every page
Invoice.xlsx — print area A1:G40, merged title, fills, borders, ₹ amounts with #,##,##0.00
One PDF page with exactly the print area, the title centred across A–G and amounts such as 1,23,450.00
orders.csv — 2,000 rows, comma-separated, a header row
A PDF table with the header row bold, shaded and repeated on each page, numbers right-aligned and gridlines printed
Common uses
- Sending a quotation, invoice, timetable or mark sheet made in Excel as a PDF.
- Printing a large data sheet with the header row on every page and all columns on the page width.
- Turning a CSV export from a bank, shop or app into a readable PDF report.
- Making a PDF of a workbook on a phone or a computer without Excel.
How close is it to Excel?
Column widths use Excel’s own conversion (ECMA-376, the Office Open XML standard): a width is measured in digits of the workbook’s default font, so a standard Calibri 11 column is 64 pixels wide. The PDF’s text is set in Noto Sans, scaled so that its digits are exactly as wide as the workbook font’s digits — numbers therefore fit their columns as they do in Excel. As in Excel, a number in the General format that is too wide for its column is shown with fewer decimals (0.333333) or in scientific notation (1.23E+12), and a formatted number or date that is too wide shows as ####. Text that doesn’t fit spills into empty neighbouring cells, wrapped text breaks inside its cell, and merged cells are centred across their whole area.
Number formats are applied with SSF, the formatter of the SheetJS spreadsheet library, plus the colour of each format section ([Red], [Blue]…), Indian grouping (#,##,##0) and Excel’s regional short date, which follows your device’s date order.
Page setup that is kept
- Print areas and print titles (rows or columns repeated on every page).
- Manual page breaks, and the page order “down, then over” or “over, then down”.
- Paper size, orientation, margins, gridlines and centring from Page Layout.
- Fit to pages or a percentage scale, or one of the scaling options here.
- Header and footer: left, centre and right sections with page number (&P), number of pages (&N), date, time, file and sheet name; pictures in headers are left out.
Pages are numbered through the whole PDF, so “Page 3 of 12” counts every sheet you convert.
Limitations
- Pictures, charts, shapes, SmartArt, comments, conditional formatting (colour scales, data bars, icons, rule-based colours) and pivot-table layouts are not reproduced; the result tells you when a sheet has them. Formulas are not recalculated — the values saved in the file are printed.
- Legacy
.xls(Excel 97–2003),.xlsband.odsfiles are not supported: open them in Excel, LibreOffice or Google Sheets and save as.xlsxfirst. Password-protected workbooks can’t be opened. - Fonts are drawn with Noto Sans (regular, bold, italic) rather than the workbook’s own fonts, so letter shapes differ slightly; rotated text other than vertical (90°) is printed horizontally.
- A sheet set to right-to-left in Excel (Sheet Right-to-Left, used for Arabic, Urdu and Hebrew) is printed with its columns left to right, column A first.
- Text in scripts that need shaping (Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, Arabic, Thai …) and Chinese, Japanese or Korean is printed through the browser’s print dialog instead of a direct download.
- Files up to 60 MB, up to 400,000 filled cells and 5,000 pages per PDF. The ZIP structure of every workbook is checked before it is unpacked, so damaged or malicious files are refused.

Frequently asked questions
Is my workbook uploaded?
No. The file is read and the PDF is written in your browser (in a background worker on this page). Nothing is sent to a server.
How do I fit all columns on one page?
Keep Scaling on Fit to page width (the default): each sheet is shrunk just enough for its columns to fit the page width. Choose Fit sheet on one page to fit the whole sheet on a single page, or Landscape for wide sheets.
Can I repeat the header row on every page?
Yes. Rows set as print titles in Excel (Page Layout → Print Titles) are repeated automatically, or choose First row, First 2 rows or First 3 rows under Repeat rows at the top.
Why do some cells show ####?
The formatted number or date (such as #,##0.00 or dd-mmm-yyyy) is wider than its column — Excel shows the same. Numbers in the General format are rounded to fit instead. Widen the column in Excel and convert again — changing the scaling here doesn’t help, because it shrinks the text and the columns together.
Are formulas calculated?
No — the PDF shows the results Excel saved in the file, which is what Excel prints too. If a workbook was made by another program that doesn’t save results, open and save it in Excel or LibreOffice first.
Can I convert an old .xls file?
Not directly. Open it in Excel, LibreOffice Calc or Google Sheets and save it as “Excel Workbook (.xlsx)”, then convert that file.
