About the India Credit Report Checker (CIBIL Report Error Finder)
Your credit report decides whether you get a loan or a card, and at what rate — and mistakes on it happen: a loan you closed still shown as active, a “settled” label on a loan you paid in full, a late payment you made on time, an enquiry by a lender you never applied to, or someone else’s account mixed into yours. This checker opens the credit report PDF from TransUnion CIBIL, Experian, Equifax or CRIF High Mark on your device — asking for the password when the file has one — and lists every account, enquiry and personal detail it can read, so you can check each row against the report.
Then it runs the checks: accounts you do not recognise; accounts you closed but shown as open or with money still owed; days past due (DPD) reported, and late payments after closure; settled, written-off, restructured or suit-filed labels; the same account shown twice; enquiries you did not make; a name, date of birth or PAN that differs from yours; and an address you mark as one you never lived at. It works out how much of your credit card limits you use and the share of months paid on time. Tick what to dispute and send it straight to the Credit Report Dispute Letter Generator, which writes the letters to the credit information company and the lender.
It is not a credit score, and nothing is uploaded. The free preview shows every count and figure with the first rows of each list; a Pro pass unlocks the full lists, the Excel and CSV downloads and the hand-over to the letters.
How to use it
- Get your full credit report as a PDF from the credit information company’s website — each one lets you see it once a year at no cost under RBI’s rules — and choose the file here. Enter its password if it asks.
- Enter your own name, date of birth and PAN (optional), so the checks can compare them with the report.
- Check each row against your report and correct anything the reader got wrong; add accounts or enquiries it missed by hand.
- Mark the accounts you do not recognise or have closed, the enquiries you did not make and any address that is not yours. Read the items to dispute and untick any you do not want to raise.
- With a pass, or after unlocking this result, download the lists as Excel or CSV, or press Write dispute letters to open the letter generator with the items filled in.
Examples
Status: SETTLED · closed on 5 April 2025
Check: shown as settled or written off — ask the lender for a no-dues certificate and dispute the label; it should read “closed”.
You tick “I closed this account” (10 January 2026) · the report shows no closing date and a ₹12,345 balance
Two clear errors: closed but shown as open, and closed with money still shown as owed.
QuickCash Credit · 22 September 2026 · you tick “Not mine”
A clear error to dispute: the enquiry should be removed.
Common uses
- Checking your report before you apply for a home, car or personal loan.
- Finding why an application was refused, or why the rate offered was high.
- Making sure a loan you closed or settled is reported correctly.
- Spotting accounts or enquiries that may be fraud in your name.
How it reads the report
Reports print each field as a label and a value — “MEMBER NAME: HDFC BANK”, “Date Opened 01-01-2018”, “Current Balance ₹12,345” — on one line, or as a row of column headings with one account or enquiry per row under it. The checker knows the labels the four companies use, splits each line at them and reads tables by their columns. It never guesses: a field it cannot find stays empty, every account is shown for you to check, and when a layout cannot be read you can enter the accounts by hand and every check still works. The reader has been checked on example layouts, not on every version of every company’s report, so compare each row with your PDF.
Reading the payment history
The payment history (days past due, DPD) has one entry per month, newest first in most reports: 000 means paid on time, a number such as 030 or 090 means the payment was that many days late, STD is a standard account, SMA, SUB, DBT and LSS are the asset classes of overdue, substandard, doubtful and loss accounts, and XXX means the lender reported nothing for that month. The checker counts the months reported and the months past due, and flags late entries after the account closed when the report prints the months.
What to do with what it finds
Raise the dispute with the credit information company — usually through the dispute form on its website — and with the lender that reported the information. Under the RBI’s framework, a complaint must be resolved within 30 calendar days of when you first filed it, or you are entitled to ₹100 for every day of delay, and you must be told the reasons for any rejection (RBI framework). If it is rejected or not resolved in time, the RBI Ombudsman covers credit information companies: the Ombudsman Complaint Generator writes that complaint. The Credit Report Dispute Letter Generator writes the dispute letters from the items you tick here.
Credit card use and on-time payments
Credit card use is the total balance of your open credit cards divided by their total limits, from the figures in the report. Paid on time is the share of reported months, across all accounts, with no days past due. Both come from your report as it stands — they are not a credit score, which each company calculates its own way.
Limitations
- Not a credit score and not financial advice: it reads what your report says, and cannot see the companies’ records.
- The reader has been checked on example layouts, not on every version of every company’s report. Check each row: what it cannot read stays empty, and you can correct or add accounts by hand.
- Scanned or photographed reports have no text to read; download the PDF from the company’s website instead.
- Late payments after closure are checked only when the report prints the month of each entry.
Privacy
On this device; its files download once
Your report is read in your browser and never uploaded; its password is used only to open the file and is not kept. The details and marks you enter stay on this page and are not stored. A hand-over to the dispute letters passes the items you tick to that page through this browser’s session storage.
Frequently asked questions
What do I get without a pass?
Without a pass, India Credit Report Checker (CIBIL Report Error Finder) shows every count and figure of your report, with the first rows of its accounts, enquiries and items to dispute (up to 10). Until you unlock it, the result can’t be downloaded or copied. A Pro, Premium or Ultimate pass, a one-time payment that never renews, unlocks the full result. The pricing page lists the passes and their prices.
Is this my CIBIL score?
No. It reads the accounts, enquiries and personal details in your report and checks them for errors. Your score is calculated by the credit information company from its own records.
Is my credit report uploaded anywhere?
No. The PDF is opened and read in your browser; nothing in it is sent to MySmartCoPilot or anyone else.
My report PDF is password-protected. What is the password?
The credit information company sets it and tells you when you download the report, usually on the download page or in the e-mail with the report. The checker uses it only to open the file.
What does DPD mean in a credit report?
Days past due: how many days late a payment was in each month. 000 means on time; 030 means 30 days late. A late entry you can show was paid on time — with a bank statement — is worth disputing.
Why does a “settled” status matter?
A settled status usually means the lender accepted less than the full amount to close the loan, and lenders read it as a negative. If you paid everything you owed, the account should be reported as closed: ask the lender for a no-dues certificate and dispute the label.
How do I dispute what it finds?
Tick the items and press Write dispute letters: the Credit Report Dispute Letter Generator opens with them filled in and writes the letters to the credit information company and the lender. Under RBI’s rules the complaint must be resolved within 30 calendar days, or you are owed ₹100 a day.
