About the Home Exercise Program (HEP) Handout Maker

A handout builder for physiotherapists and rehabilitation professionals. Pick exercises from a library of line drawings made for this site — knee and hip, ankle, back, neck, shoulder, balance and stretches — or use your own photo, set the sets, repetitions, hold time, times a day, days a week and side, and write your own instructions and precautions. The handout prints on your clinic letterhead with the patient’s name, a QR code to your own exercise videos and a 2- to 6-week exercise diary with boxes for pain and effort.

Make an A4, A5 or US Letter PDF, or phone pictures to send from your phone. Headings can carry Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Bengali or Telugu under the English. A photo can be turned into an anonymous stick figure on this device, so a patient’s face never appears on paper. The tool diagnoses nothing and suggests no treatment: you choose every exercise and write every instruction.

          How to use it

          1. Fill in Your letterhead once (kept on this device), then the patient’s name and, if you like, the start date and when you will review the programme.
          2. Find exercises in the Picture library — search (“bridge”, “wall”, “shoulder”) or choose a body area — and click a picture to add it. For anything else, type its name under “Or add your own” and add your photo.
          3. For each exercise, fill in the sets, reps, hold (seconds), times a day, days a week and side, write your instructions, and add a link to your video of it if you have one: it prints as a QR code.
          4. To show a movement without showing a person, choose a photo and press Make stick figure from photo: the figure is made on this device and only the figure is printed.
          5. Add precautions (printed in a box) and notes, pick the number of weeks for the exercise diary, and check the preview: paper page or phone picture.
          6. With a Premium pass, or after unlocking this handout, press Download PDF, Phone pictures or Copy as text; the free preview shows the handout as marked page images. Save the handout, or save it as a template to start the next patient’s programme from it.

          Six boxes under the exercise name: Sets 3 · Reps 8–12 · Hold 5 s · Times a day 2 · Days a week 5 · Side Right

Only the boxes you fill in are printed; with Hindi headings each box also shows the Hindi word (सेट, दोहराव…).

          Result
A line figure of the same pose, in the style of the drawings — no face, no background

The 33 body points come from MediaPipe Pose Landmarker running in your browser; the photo is not printed unless you choose “Your photo”.

          Exercise diary: 4 weeks
          Result
A table with a row for each week, a box for each day, and boxes for pain and effort (0–10)

          Common uses

          • Physiotherapists giving a printed or WhatsApp home programme after each session.
          • Clinics keeping templates for common programmes — knee replacement, low back pain, shoulder — that each physio adjusts.
          • Sports and fitness professionals sending a short corrective routine with video links.
          • Home-visit physios who print on A5 or send phone pictures instead of paper.

Pictures: drawings, your photos or a stick figure

          • Drawings: stick-figure line drawings made by MySmartCoPilot, with a light start position, a dark end position and an arrow along the movement. They show the movement only — the exercise is what you write.
          • Your photo: a photo of you or of a model who agreed, shrunk and kept with the handout on this device.
          • Stick figure: MediaPipe Pose Landmarker (Google, Apache License 2.0) finds 33 body points in the photo inside your browser, and the handout draws lines between them. It works best with one person, the whole body (or the moving part) in view and the head visible. Check each figure; correct it by taking another photo.

          Dosage, instructions and precautions

Sets, reps, times a day and days a week take a number or a range (8–12); hold time is in seconds. Days a week must be 7 or fewer and times a day 12 or fewer — the page says so if a number looks mistyped. The instruction box shows a short description of the picture as a hint, but nothing is printed unless you type it: every word on the handout is yours. Precautions are printed in a coloured box after the exercises.

          Video links and QR codes

Add a link to your own videos for the whole programme (a playlist) or for one exercise. Each link is printed as a QR code that a phone camera opens; only web links (https://…) are accepted, and a link longer than 300 characters is refused so the code stays easy to scan — use a short link. The handout never links to anyone else’s videos for you.

          Exercise diary

Choose 2 to 6 weeks. The diary is a table with a row for each week, a box for each day to tick, and two boxes for the patient to write their pain and their effort from 0 (none) to 10 (worst or hardest). Bring it to the next visit to see how the programme went.

          Headings in Indian languages

With Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Bengali or Telugu headings, the title, “Sets”, “Reps”, “Hold”, “Times a day”, “Days a week”, “Side”, “Precautions”, “Pain”, “Effort” and the diary are printed with the local word as well. Every word can be changed under Heading words. Your instructions are printed as you type them, in any language. Hindi and Marathi are real text in the PDF; Tamil, Bengali and Telugu lines are drawn with the device’s fonts as sharp pictures.

          Limitations

          • It does not assess, diagnose or choose exercises: the physiotherapist decides every exercise, dose and instruction.
          • The drawings are simple stick figures that show a movement; they do not show exact joint angles or technique.
          • Stick figures need a clear photo of one person; the model can misplace a point, so check every figure before printing.
          • Up to 16 exercises per handout.
          • Handouts, photos and templates are kept in this browser on this device only.
          • Tamil, Bengali and Telugu headings need the device’s fonts and are pictures in the PDF.

          Privacy

Everything stays in this browser on your device: patient names, photos, stick figures, handouts and templates (IndexedDB). Photos are shrunk on the device; the pose model runs on the device; PDFs and pictures are made on the device. Nothing is uploaded.

          Frequently asked questions

What do I get without a pass?

Without a pass, Home Exercise Program (HEP) Handout Maker shows every page and phone picture as images marked “MySmartCoPilot preview · not for use”, with the video QR codes not scannable. Until you unlock it, the result can’t be downloaded, copied or shared. A Premium pass, a one-time payment that never renews, unlocks the full result. The pricing page lists the passes and their prices.

Can I use my own exercise photos?

Yes. Choose “Your photo” for an exercise and pick the photo; it is shrunk and kept with the handout on this device. To keep a person anonymous, press “Make stick figure from photo” and print the figure instead.

Is the patient’s photo uploaded to make the stick figure?

No. The pose model is downloaded from this site once and runs in your browser; the photo never leaves the device, and only the figure goes on the handout.

Does the tool suggest exercises or doses?

No. It is a document maker: you pick the exercises and type the dose and instructions. The short text under each picture is only a hint of what the drawing shows and is not printed.

Can patients watch my videos from the handout?

Yes — paste a link to your own videos for the programme or for an exercise, and it is printed as a QR code they can scan with a phone camera.

Can I print in A5 or send it on WhatsApp?

Choose A5 (or A4, US Letter) for the PDF, or press Phone pictures for 1080-pixel pictures to share from your phone yourself.

How do I reuse a programme for the next patient?

Press Save as template: the exercises, dosage and wording are kept without the patient’s name and photos. Under Saved handouts and templates press Use to start a new handout from it.
