Worked example: matching a barcode’s bars to a 300 dpi printer
A shop prints retail barcodes on a 300 dpi label printer, using the usual module width of 0.33 mm for a full-size code.
A 300 dpi printer places one dot every 25.4 ÷ 300 = 0.0847 mm.
A 0.33 mm module would need 3.9 dots, and a printer cannot print part of a dot.
The generator rounds the module to whole dots: 4 dots per module, which is 0.339 mm.
Every bar and space is then a whole number of dots wide, so the printed code keeps its proportions and scans reliably.
Questions
Are my files uploaded to convert them?
The converters and folder tools here work on the files you choose inside your browser; a tool that needs to send anything says so on its own page before it does.
How does the duplicate finder know two files are the same?
It compares their contents, so two copies with different names are found, while two different files that happen to share a name are not mistaken for each other.
Can I read a QR code from a screenshot?
Yes. The scanners read a code from the camera or from an image file, such as a screenshot or a photo of a label.
Why does a barcode not scan after printing?
Often because the bars were printed at a width the printer could not draw evenly, or too small. Matching the module to whole printer dots, as in the example, and keeping the quiet zones clear usually fixes it.
