About the Visa Document Checklist for Indian Passport Holders
Every country publishes its own list of what a visa application needs, and the lists differ: the UK wants bank statements that show where the money came from, Schengen consulates want three months of stamped statements or two years of income-tax returns and €30,000 of travel medical insurance, Canada asks for six months of account details, New Zealand for NZD 1,000 a month of the stay. This visa document checklist for Indian passport holders reads the official pages of the Schengen area, the UK, the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UAE and Singapore, and of Thailand and Sri Lanka, where Indians visit without a visa or with an ETA issued at no charge.
Choose the destination and the purpose — tourism, a family visit, business or a short course — and your work and funding: you get the visa to apply for, where and when to apply, the fee and processing time the official page states, a passport validity check against your dates, and the numbered documents, including what to bring for a sponsor or a child. It drafts a cover letter for the visa officer and, for a child travelling without both parents, a consent letter. The free preview shows the pack as marked pages; a Pro pass unlocks the Word file, the PDF, the text and printing.
How to use it
- Choose the destination (for Schengen, the country where you stay longest), the purpose and the trip dates.
- Enter the traveller’s name, passport number and its issue and expiry dates, your work and who pays; for a child, who they travel with.
- Read the checks: the passport rule against your dates, when you can apply, and anything that does not fit (a Schengen stay over 90 days, a Thai stay over 30).
- Read the checklist in the preview, then download it with the cover letter as Word or PDF — with a pass, or after unlocking this result — and apply on the official site linked in the pack.
Examples
Schengen · main destination France · tourism · salaried · 8 to 21 May 2027 · passport valid until 9 August 2031
Schengen short-stay (C) visa from the French consulate, apply between 8 November 2026 and 23 April 2027; €90; normally 15 days; passport fine (it must be valid until 21 August 2027); employment contract, leave letter and 3 months of payslips; 3 months of bank statements or 2 years of ITRs; €30,000 travel medical insurance; the cover letter.
Canada · visiting family · retired · son sponsors
Visitor visa applied for online; CAD 100 plus CAD 85 biometrics each; passport valid 6 months from travel; the son’s invitation letter and proof of the relationship; 6 months of account details.
Thailand · tourism · 12 days
No visa needed: Indian passport holders can stay up to 30 days for tourism under Thailand’s visa exemption; a longer stay or another purpose needs a visa on the Thai e-Visa website.
Common uses
- Preparing a Schengen, UK, US, Canadian or Australian visa file before the appointment.
- Checking that a passport is valid long enough for a trip.
- Writing a cover letter for a visa application.
- Parents preparing a child’s visa with one parent travelling.
What visa officers look for
The visitor visa pages of the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand ask for the same three things in their own words: that the visit is genuine and for a permitted purpose, that you can pay for it (or have a sponsor who can), and that you will go home at the end — through your job, studies, business, family or property in India. That is why the checklists ask for an employer’s letter with your role, salary and approved leave, payslips and bank statements of recent months, income-tax returns, and for business owners the registration (GST) certificate and business accounts. Keep every document consistent: the same name, date of birth and passport number everywhere.
Passport rules by destination
- Schengen: valid at least 3 months after you leave the Schengen area, issued within the last 10 years, with two blank visa pages.
- United Kingdom: valid for the whole stay.
- United States: valid for the whole stay: India is on the US list of countries exempt from the six-month rule.
- Canada: valid at least 6 months from the date you travel.
- UAE and Singapore: valid at least 6 months from the date of entry.
The checklist compares these with your passport’s dates and tells you to renew first when it falls short.
Fees and processing times stated officially
- UK Standard Visitor: £135 for up to 6 months; a decision usually within 3 weeks; apply no earlier than 3 months before travel.
- Schengen: €90 for adults, €45 for children aged 6 to 12, plus the visa centre’s service fee; normally 15 days, up to 45; apply 6 months to 15 days before the journey.
- Canada: CAD 100 processing plus CAD 85 biometrics per person.
- Singapore: S$30; three working days; apply within 30 days before arrival.
- Australia, New Zealand and the US: the official fee and processing-time pages are linked in the checklist.
Limitations
- Not legal or immigration advice: a checklist from each destination’s official pages. Embassies and visa centres can ask for more, and their own list prevails.
- Covers short visits (tourism, family visits, business, short courses). Work, student, family-settlement and transit visas have their own requirements.
- Fees and processing times change; the pack quotes them only where the official page states them and links the page.
- It never books an appointment or submits an application, and it does not judge your chances.
Privacy
Everything happens in your browser: names and passport numbers are not uploaded or stored by MySmartCoPilot, and the tool never contacts an embassy or a visa centre. If you tick Keep a draft in this browser, the form is saved in this browser’s local storage until you untick it — leave it off on shared computers.
Frequently asked questions
What do I get without a pass?
Without a pass, Visa Document Checklist for Indian Passport Holders shows every page with your details, the first part of the wording readable and the rest hidden, marked “MySmartCoPilot preview · not for use”. Until you unlock it, the result can’t be downloaded, copied or printed. A Pro, Premium or Ultimate pass, a one-time payment that never renews, unlocks the full result. The pricing page lists the passes and their prices.
What documents are needed for a Schengen visa from India?
The application form, a passport issued within 10 years and valid 3 months after you leave, a photo, travel medical insurance of at least €30,000 for the whole Schengen area, a travel reservation and accommodation for the whole stay, a cover letter, bank statements of the last 3 months stamped by the bank or income-tax returns of the last 2 years, and proof of your job, business, studies or pension (the Netherlands’ checklist for India). Each consulate publishes its own list.
How much bank balance do I need for a visa?
Most countries do not set a fixed amount: they want statements showing that you can pay for the trip and where the money comes from. New Zealand states one: at least NZD 1,000 a month of the stay (NZD 400 if accommodation is paid). The UAE’s 5-year tourist visa needs USD 4,000 or its equivalent over the last six months.
Is a cover letter needed for a visa?
Schengen consulates in India ask for one (the reason for the visit, how long you stay, who travels with you, transport and accommodation), and New Zealand suggests one. Elsewhere it is optional but can help explain your trip. The pack drafts it from your details.
Which countries can Indians visit without a visa?
This checklist covers two: Thailand, where Indian passport holders can stay up to 30 days for tourism without a visa, and Sri Lanka, which issues Indians an ETA at no charge for 30 days with double entry. Check the destination’s official page before you travel: these schemes change.
What does a child need to travel with one parent?
The child’s birth certificate and the non-travelling parent’s written consent. Schengen consulates ask for that consent to be notarised, the UK for a signed letter with who travels with and looks after the child, and Australia for its Form 1229 or a statutory declaration. The pack drafts the consent letter.
