About the UK Skilled Worker Visa Salary Checker
Check whether a job offer meets the Skilled Worker salary rules: the general threshold of £41,700 a year or the occupation’s going rate, whichever is higher, with the going rate pro-rated for the weekly hours, and every lower option the rules allow — a relevant PhD (£37,500 and 90% of the going rate), a STEM PhD (£33,400 and 80%), a job on the Immigration Salary List (£33,400 and the going rate), a new entrant (£33,400 and 70%), health and education jobs on national pay scales (£25,000 and the pay band), and options F to J for people first granted Skilled Worker permission before 4 April 2024 and for health and care jobs.
Search by job title or 4-digit SOC 2020 code. The checker shows whether the code is higher skilled, medium skilled (eligible only on the Immigration Salary List or the Temporary Shortage List, or for people first granted Skilled Worker permission before 22 July 2025) or not eligible, then every option with its threshold, the going rate for your hours and whether you meet it, with links to the rules. The free preview shows your job’s skill level, the eligibility rules and the first points options, with the verdict and every figure hidden; a Pro pass unlocks the verdict, the full table, the CSV and the print.
How to use it
- Type a job title or the SOC 2020 code your sponsor gave you and choose the occupation.
- Enter the guaranteed basic salary per year, the weekly hours on the certificate of sponsorship and where in the UK the job is.
- Set the certificate and application dates, and tick what applies to you: earlier Skilled Worker permission, the same sponsor, applying in the UK, a new entrant, a PhD.
- For a health or education job, choose the Agenda for Change band, the grade or the teacher’s role and pay area.
- Read the verdict and each option’s figures. Without a pass the table shows its first options, with the verdict and the figures hidden; a Pro pass unlocks the full table with the CSV and the print.
Examples
IT quality and testing professional (2136), £45,000 a year, 37.5 hours, England
Meets option A: at least £41,700 and the going rate of £41,200.
The same job at £42,000 for 40 hours a week
Does not meet option A: the going rate becomes £41,200 × 40 ÷ 37.5 = £43,946.67.
Software developer (2134), aged 24, £50,000 a year, 37.5 hours
Option A is not met (going rate £54,700), but option E is: at least £33,400 and 70% of the going rate, £38,300.
Staff nurse (2237), Agenda for Change band 5 in England, £31,000, 37.5 hours
Meets option K: at least £25,000 and the band 5 rate of £29,970.
Common uses
- Checking a job offer before the sponsor assigns a certificate of sponsorship.
- Seeing which lower salary option — new entrant, PhD, Immigration Salary List — a job can use.
- Checking a part-time or long-hours job, where the going rate changes with the hours.
- Checking an extension or change of employer under the transitional rules.
The salary options
A Skilled Worker needs 20 points from one of these options, on top of sponsorship, the job’s skill level and English (Appendix Skilled Worker):
- A: £41,700 and the going rate.
- B: a PhD relevant to the job: £37,500 and 90% of the going rate.
- C: a STEM PhD relevant to the job: £33,400 and 80%.
- D: a job on the Immigration Salary List: £33,400 and the going rate.
- E: a new entrant: £33,400 and 70%.
- F to J: the same five options with the lower Table 2 going rates and thresholds of £31,300, £28,200 and £25,000, for someone first granted Skilled Worker permission under the rules in place before 4 April 2024 (applying before 4 April 2030) or sponsored for a health and care job with a listed employer.
- K: a listed health or education job: £25,000 and the national pay scale rate.
The percentages are of the going rate in the tables, which already apply the hourly floors of £17.13 (Table 1) and £12.82 (Table 2).
Hours and what counts as salary
Going rates in Tables 1 to 2a are for a 37.5-hour week and are pro-rated: going rate × weekly hours ÷ 37.5. The general thresholds (£41,700 and the others) are not pro-rated, and only the pay for the first 48 hours a week counts towards them, while the going rate is checked against all your hours (SW 14.3 and SW 14.4). Salary is guaranteed basic gross pay, including employee pension and National Insurance contributions; overtime, shift pay, bonuses, allowances, benefits in kind and employer pension contributions do not count (SW 14.1 and SW 14.2).
Which jobs can be sponsored
Appendix Skilled Occupations sorts every SOC 2020 code (Appendix Skilled Occupations): higher-skilled codes (Tables 1, 2 and 3) are open to new applicants; medium-skilled codes (Tables 1a, 2aa and 3a) only through the Immigration Salary List or the Temporary Shortage List — each for certificates of sponsorship issued before its cut-off date — or for someone first granted Skilled Worker permission under the rules in place before 22 July 2025 who has had it continuously since; a few codes below that level (Table 2a) only to stay with the same sponsor; and the codes in Table 6 not at all. Care workers (6135) and senior care workers (6136) have extra conditions in SW 6.1B, and prison officers (3314) in SW 6.1(g).
Health and education jobs
Option K uses national pay scales: the NHS Agenda for Change bands by nation (for a 37.5-hour week, 37 hours in Scotland; band 1 and 2 jobs cannot be sponsored, and band 3 and 4 jobs only for people with Skilled Worker permission from before 22 July 2025, except nursing auxiliaries), teachers’ pay by role and area, and the grades of doctors, dentists and further education lecturers in each nation. Pay scales for a full-time post are pro-rated by the share of full time. The tables follow the Immigration Rules and contain public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0.
Limitations
- Not legal advice: the Home Office decides, and the sponsor must choose the most appropriate occupation code for the job’s duties (SW 6.2).
- It does not cover the Global Business Mobility or Scale-up routes, the salary rules for settlement, or the allowances and going rates some people first sponsored as Tier 2 (General) migrants may still use (SW 14.5).
- The job must also pay at least the National Minimum Wage and follow the Working Time Regulations, and the rules and lists change often: check the linked appendices before you apply.

Frequently asked questions
What do I get without a pass?
Without a pass, UK Skilled Worker Visa Salary Checker shows your job’s skill level, the eligibility rules and the first points options, with the verdict, the salary each option needs and every figure hidden. Until you unlock it, the result can’t be downloaded or printed. A Pro, Premium or Ultimate pass, a one-time payment that never renews, unlocks the full result. The pricing page lists the passes and their prices.
What is the minimum salary for a Skilled Worker visa?
Usually £41,700 a year or the going rate for the occupation code, whichever is higher, with the going rate pro-rated for the weekly hours (option A). Lower options exist for new entrants, relevant PhDs, the Immigration Salary List, health and education jobs on national pay scales and people with earlier Skilled Worker permission.
Can I be paid less than £41,700?
Yes, if you fit another option: £37,500 with a relevant PhD, £33,400 with a STEM PhD, on the Immigration Salary List or as a new entrant, £25,000 for listed health and education jobs, and from £31,300 down to £25,000 under options F to J. The salary must still reach that option’s share of the going rate for your hours.
Is the threshold lower for a part-time job?
No. The going rate is pro-rated for the hours (going rate × hours ÷ 37.5), but the £41,700 threshold and the other general thresholds are not, so a part-time job must still pay at least the general threshold.
Do overtime and bonuses count towards the salary?
No. Only guaranteed basic gross pay counts. Overtime, shift pay, bonuses, allowances such as London weighting, benefits in kind and employer pension contributions are left out (SW 14.2).
My job is medium skilled. Can I still be sponsored?
Only if the job is on the Immigration Salary List or the Temporary Shortage List for a certificate of sponsorship issued before the list’s cut-off date, or if you were first granted Skilled Worker permission under the rules in place before 22 July 2025 and have had it continuously since.
