About the Virtual Makeup & Eye Colour Try-On (Lipstick, Kajal, Eyeliner)
Try lipstick, eyeliner, kajal (kohl), a brow tint and a new eye colour on your own photo or live in your camera, and compare before and after. Pick from 24 lip shades — nudes, pinks, peach and coral, reds, berries, plums and browns, for cool, neutral and warm undertones — or type any colour code, choose a matte, satin or gloss finish and set how strong each product is.
A face-mapping model that runs in your browser finds 478 points on the face; the lips, the lash lines, the brow hairs and the irises are then coloured from those points, keeping the light and texture of your photo. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is generated: there is no foundation, blush, contour, skin-tone, "fairness" or face-shape change, by design. Every photo first passes an on-device safety check. Use your own photo, or one of someone who agreed.
The free preview shows the made-up photo at preview size (up to 640 pixels, at most half its own size) with a MySmartCoPilot watermark; saving, copying and sharing it unlock with a Pro pass or for this one photo.
How to use it
- Choose a clear, front-facing photo of yourself, or of someone who agreed (JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC), or select Use the camera for a live view. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland the page first asks you to tick This is my photo, or the person in it agreed to this.
- The page checks the picture on your device and maps the face. The first time takes a little longer while the try-on gets ready; after that it’s quick. With several people in the photo, the largest face is chosen — pick another under Face.
- Choose a lip shade or your own colour, a finish and the amount. Add eyeliner (thin, winged or smoky), kajal, a brow tint or an eye colour in the sections beside the photo; each change shows at once.
- Drag Compare with the original to see the difference. In the camera view, press Take a snapshot to keep the current frame as a photo you can fine-tune.
- Without a pass the result stays a free preview: Download, Copy image and Share open the ways to unlock it, and with a Pro pass (or this photo unlocked) they give the full-size photo with a small "Virtual makeup preview" tag in the corner.
Examples
A selfie by a window · lip shades Rose nude, Classic red and Berry · satin finish at 70%
The same photo in three shades, each compared with the original on the slider; the shade card lists each shade with its colour code to take to a shop.
A front-facing photo · kajal: thin, black, 75% · eyeliner: winged, brown, 85%
A fine line along the lower lash line and a flick at the outer corners, drawn outside the eyes only: the whites of the eyes and the irises are not touched.
A close-up with both eyes open · eye colour: Grey-blue at 60%
The irises take the colour while their own pattern, the pupils, the catchlights and the eyelids stay as they were.
How the makeup is put on
- Lips: the area between the outer and the inner lip contour, so the teeth and the inside of the mouth are never coloured. The edge is softened towards the inside only, so no colour runs onto the skin.
- Colour: worked out in the CIE L\*a\b\ colour space. The lips’ average lightness and their colour move towards the shade while the shading of your photo is kept, so they still look like lips. Matte flattens the highlights, satin keeps them and gloss strengthens them and adds a highlight on the side the light comes from.
- Eyeliner and kajal are drawn shapes: a stroke along the upper lash line (thin, winged with a flick at the outer corner, or wide and soft for smoky) and one along the lower lash line. The visible eye is cut out of them, so they never cover the eye itself.
- Brows: inside the brow outline only the hairs — pixels clearly darker than the skin around them — take the tint; the skin between them stays as it is.
- Eye colour: the circle of the iris, without the pupil and cut by the eyelids; the iris’s own pattern and the reflections of light in it are kept.
What it never changes
Only the lips, the lash lines, the brow hairs and the irises are ever touched. There is no foundation, concealer, blush, contour, skin smoothing, skin-tone or "fairness" change, no reshaping of the face, and nothing is invented: the rest of the photo keeps its pixels exactly. Before any makeup is put on, the photo passes an on-device safety check — photos that may contain nudity are refused, and when the check cannot run the try-on stays off. Use your own photo, or one of someone who agreed.
The camera view
The live view colours each camera frame on your device, up to 30 times a second, and steadies the face points with the One Euro filter, a speed-based smoothing filter that keeps a still face from jittering without making a moving one lag. The safety check runs again every 10 seconds. Nothing is recorded: Take a snapshot keeps the current frame as a photo, the way the view shows it (mirrored if Mirror is on). The camera needs your permission and a secure (https) page.
The saved photo
With a Pro pass, or this photo unlocked, the download is the whole photo at its own size (up to 24 megapixels on a computer and 12 on a phone or tablet; larger photos are reduced first), as JPG or PNG. It carries a small "Virtual makeup preview" tag in the bottom-left corner, and its metadata marks it as a photo edited with AI on your device, so it is never mistaken for an untouched original.
Limitations
- This is a preview, not a colour match: real products look different on skin, and what you see depends on your screen, the light in the photo and the camera.
- It works best on a clear, front-facing face at least a few hundred pixels wide, in even light. Side views, strong shadows, hair or hands over the lips or eyes, sunglasses and heavy filters make the outlines less exact.
- Lip and lid outlines come from the mapped points and can be a few pixels off on very full or very thin lips, or with a strong lip liner already on. Lower the amount for a softer edge.
- Eye colour needs open eyes; very dark irises take light colours only partly, as coloured lenses do, and reflections in glasses can be coloured too.
- Foundation, blush, contour and skin changes are not offered, by design.
Privacy
On this device; its files download once
Your photo and camera frames are read and coloured in your browser and never uploaded. The face-mapping model and the photo check come from MySmartCoPilot the first time and your browser keeps them. Where the page asks you to confirm that the photo is yours, or that the person in it agreed, your answer is kept only while the page is open.
Frequently asked questions
What do I get without a pass?
Without a pass, Virtual Makeup & Eye Colour Try-On (Lipstick, Kajal, Eyeliner) shows the result at preview size (up to 640 pixels), with a MySmartCoPilot watermark across it. Until you unlock it, the result can’t be downloaded, copied or shared. A Pro, Premium or Ultimate pass, a one-time payment that never renews, unlocks the full result. The pricing page lists the passes and their prices.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The photo, the camera frames and the result stay on your device: the face is mapped and the makeup coloured in your browser. The face-mapping model and the photo check come from MySmartCoPilot the first time, and your browser keeps them.
Why is there no foundation, blush or skin lightening?
By design. MySmartCoPilot does not change skin tone, "fairness" or face shape on photos of people. The tool only colours the lips, the lash lines, the brow hairs and the irises, and leaves every other pixel as it was.
Can I try my own lipstick colour?
Yes. Next to the 24 shades, choose a colour with the colour picker or type its code (for example #c0182a, or the short form #c12). The shade card shows the code of every colour you use, to compare with a product.
Why does the page ask whether it is my photo?
Changing how someone looks in a photo should only happen with their agreement. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland the page asks you to confirm that the photo is of you or of someone who agreed, and keeps the answer only while the page is open; everywhere else, use only such photos.
Why can’t it find my face?
The face has to be clear and mostly front-facing. Try a photo where the whole face is visible, in good light, without sunglasses or a hand in front of it, and with the face at least a few hundred pixels wide. Very small faces in group photos are skipped.
What does the free preview include?
Without a pass you can try every shade, finish and product on your own photo or camera and compare before and after. The made-up photo is shown at preview size (up to 640 pixels, at most half its own size) with a MySmartCoPilot watermark, and Download, Copy image and Share open the ways to unlock it: a Pro pass, or an unlock of this one photo.
