About the Reverse & Loop Video (Boomerang)
Turn a clip into one of three effects: Reverse plays it backwards, Boomerang plays it forwards and then backwards to where it began (the bouncing effect of social apps), and Loop repeats it. Each can play up to 10 times in a row, from the whole video or just the part you choose.
The sound can follow the picture — backwards in a reverse, forwards then backwards in a boomerang — or be left out. The result is a new MP4 video (H.264 with AAC sound), the most widely playable format; a browser that cannot encode H.264 makes a WebM video instead.
Reversing works one stretch of frames at a time from the end of the clip, so memory stays bounded; on phones with little memory the page limits how long a part and how large a picture it takes. Everything happens in your browser: nothing is uploaded. Without a pass, the result is a free preview of up to 10 seconds with a MySmartCoPilot watermark.
How to use it
- Drop a video on the box or click Choose a video.
- Choose Reverse, Boomerang or Loop, how many times it plays and whether the sound comes along.
- Optionally play your video and set the part with From here and To here (1 to 4 seconds make the best boomerangs), and choose the output size.
- Press the run button. With a pass, or after unlocking this result, Download the new video. Without a pass the page plays a free preview instead — up to 10 seconds with a MySmartCoPilot watermark, around the turn for a boomerang or the first repeat for a loop — and Ways to unlock shows how to get the full file.
Examples
jump.mp4 · From 0:01.2 To 0:03.0 · Boomerang × 3 · no sound
jump-boomerang.mp4, about 10.6 s at 30 fps: the 1.8 s part forwards and backwards three times, never showing a frame twice in a row
waterfall.mov · Reverse · sound plays backwards
waterfall-reversed.mp4, the same length, last frame first
waves.mp4 (4 s) · Loop × 5
waves-loop.mp4, 20 s
How the three effects are put together
- Reverse shows the part’s frames from the last to the first. Repeated, it starts again from the last frame.
- Boomerang shows the frames forwards to the end and back to the start without repeating the turning frame, so the bounce is smooth; each further boomerang goes forwards from the second frame, so no frame shows twice in a row.
- Loop shows the frames forwards, again and again.
The result keeps the frame rate of your video (up to 60 frames a second). The sound is cut into the same pieces as the picture, so it stays in step: reversed with a reversed picture, and with a tiny fade where it jumps, so the joins do not click.
Why long videos are limited
A decoder delivers frames in playing order, so a reverse has to read a stretch of frames, hold them and give them out backwards before it reads the stretch before. The page holds at most a set number of frames (fewer for large pictures) and the part’s sound in memory. On devices that report little memory it reverses parts of up to 1 minute at 720p, elsewhere up to 2, 3 or 5 minutes at up to 1080p or 4K. For longer parts, use From and To.
Limitations
- The picture is always re-encoded (frames in a new order cannot be copied), so the result is a new file at the quality you choose.
- Only the first sound track is used; HDR video is converted to standard dynamic range.
- Reversing decodes some stretches more than once, so a long reverse takes longer than a normal conversion, especially from screen recordings with few key frames.
- Needs WebCodecs (current Chrome, Edge, Safari or desktop Firefox) and a decoder for the video’s codec.

Frequently asked questions
What do I get without a pass?
Without a pass, Reverse & Loop Video (Boomerang) shows the first half of the result (up to 10 seconds) at the settings you chose, with a MySmartCoPilot watermark. Until you unlock it, the result can’t be downloaded or saved to your device. A Pro, Premium or Ultimate pass, a one-time payment that never renews, unlocks the full result. The pricing page lists the passes and their prices.
Do I need a pass?
To download or save the whole video, yes: a Pro pass unlocks every Pro tool. Without a pass you see a free preview of your own clip with your settings and a MySmartCoPilot watermark, up to 10 seconds: the first half of a reverse, or the parts around the turn of a boomerang or the first repeat of a loop. An unlock of this one result (Ways to unlock lists how) makes the whole video from the file still open on the page.
Can I reverse a video with its sound?
Yes. With Sound: plays with the picture the sound is reversed together with the picture; speech then sounds backwards, which is part of the fun. Choose No sound for a silent result.
What is the difference between a boomerang and a loop?
A boomerang plays forwards and then backwards, so it ends where it began and can repeat without a jump. A loop plays forwards each time, so it jumps from the last frame back to the first unless the clip already ends where it starts.
Can I change the speed?
Not here: the result plays at the original speed. Make it faster or slower afterwards with the Video Speed Changer.
Is my video uploaded?
No. The video is read and encoded inside your browser, and the result is saved to your device.
