About the WhatsApp Status Maker (Split Videos, Fit Photos)

Get your own photos and videos ready for a WhatsApp Status: long videos are cut into parts of up to 90 seconds — the longest video a Status takes — and photos are fitted to the tall phone screen (on a blurred copy of themselves, on a colour, or cropped to fill), with an optional caption, logo and part numbers. Download each file, all of them as one ZIP, or share them straight to WhatsApp from your phone.

Cutting is fast and lossless by default: the parts are copied from the original video without re-encoding, so they look exactly like it. Choose Exact lengths (or add text or a logo) and the parts are re-encoded as MP4 instead. Everything happens in your browser — nothing is uploaded. This tool only works on files you choose; it is not a status saver or downloader.

How to use it

  1. Choose your photos and videos (or drag them here). Each one is listed with what it will become, for example “→ 3 parts: 1:28, 1:28 and 1:14. Copied without re-encoding.”
  2. For photos, pick how they fill the screen: the whole photo on a blurred copy of it, on a colour, cropped to fill, or kept in its own shape, and how much to sharpen.
  3. For videos, set the part length (5–90 seconds), full length (the last part shorter) or all the same length, and Fast (no quality loss) or Exact lengths (re-encoded).
  4. Optionally type a caption, add your logo (a PNG with a transparent background looks best) and number the parts. The Preview shows the picture as a phone would.
  5. Press Make status files, then Download all (ZIP), download them one by one, or Share… them to WhatsApp. Post the parts of a video in order, part 1 first.

What a WhatsApp Status takes

WhatsApp’s Help Center says that a Status shares photos and videos that disappear after 24 hours, that WhatsApp supports 3GP and MPEG-4 video, and that Status videos can be up to 90 seconds long. It also says that HD media isn’t supported for statuses and that media posted to a Status may be shown at a lower quality than the original (WhatsApp Help Center: How to create and share a status). So this page makes MP4 videos of up to 90 seconds and 1080 × 1920 pictures, the full-HD size of a tall phone screen, and leaves any further shrinking to WhatsApp.

Parts are cut a tenth of a second under the length you choose (89.9 s for 90): copied and re-encoded videos can carry a few hundredths of a second of sound past their last frame, and this keeps every part within the limit. A video that already fits is left whole.

Fast (lossless) or exact lengths

A video is stored as key frames — complete pictures — with the frames between them stored as changes. A part copied without re-encoding has to start on a key frame, so Fast ends each part at the last key frame before the limit: parts can be a little shorter than the length you set, but they keep the original quality and are made in seconds. How far apart key frames are depends on the camera or app that made the video; the list shows the parts before you make them. When key frames are too far apart, or the video is not H.264 or HEVC with AAC or MP3 sound (WebM files from browsers and screen recorders usually hold VP8 or VP9 with Opus sound), that video is re-encoded and the list says why.

Exact lengths decodes the video and encodes it again as MP4 (H.264 video, AAC sound) at up to 30 frames a second, so the cuts fall exactly at the part length instead of at key frames. Captions, logos and part numbers are drawn into the picture, so they always need this. Re-encoded parts keep the video’s shape and size (up to 1080p), or are made smaller with 720p.

Photos: fitting and sharpening

A photo that is not tall enough for the screen can be shown whole on a blurred copy of itself (the default: nothing is cut off and there are no black bars), whole on a colour you pick, cropped to fill the screen, or kept in its own shape (made smaller to fit within 1920 × 1080, or 1080 × 1920 for a tall photo, and never made bigger). Pictures are saved as JPEG at quality 92. HEIC photos from iPhones are read too.

Sharpen applies a gentle unsharp mask to the photo (not to the blurred background), which makes small text and edges a little crisper. It cannot stop WhatsApp from compressing a picture again, so start from the sharpest photo you have.

Captions, logos and part numbers

The caption is drawn in white on a dark band, centred at the top or bottom, in up to four lines (longer captions get a smaller font). Your logo goes in the corner you choose, at the size you choose; the part number (“2/3”) goes in a top corner. On tall pictures they keep clear of the top and bottom tenth of the screen, where the Status viewer shows the progress bar, the name and the reply field. Hindi, Marathi and other Devanagari text uses a bundled font; Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Gurmukhi, Arabic and emoji use your device’s fonts.

Limitations

  • This tool works only on photos and videos you choose from your device. It cannot see, save or download anyone’s status.
  • Up to 30 files at a time, videos up to 4 GB each. The finished files are kept in memory until you save them, so very long videos on a phone may need to be made a few at a time.
  • Re-encoding needs a browser that can encode MP4 video (current Chrome, Edge and Safari; Firefox only on some systems). Fast copying works in any current browser.
  • Videos are not cropped to the tall screen: they keep their shape, and WhatsApp shows landscape videos with bars above and below.
  • Videos the browser cannot read (AVI, WMV, FLV and older formats) have to be converted first, for example with the Video Converter.
  • WhatsApp may compress pictures and videos when you post them; how much is up to WhatsApp and your phone’s settings.
  • MySmartCoPilot is not affiliated with WhatsApp or Meta.

Privacy

Everything happens in your browser: your photos, videos and logo are read, cut and encoded on your device and never uploaded. The settings and the caption text are remembered in this browser (local storage) for next time; the files and the logo are not kept. Default settings resets them.

Frequently asked questions

How long can a WhatsApp Status video be?

Up to 90 seconds, according to WhatsApp’s Help Center. Longer videos are cut here into parts of up to 90 seconds (or a shorter length you choose), which you post one after another.

Why are my parts a few seconds shorter than 90 seconds?

In Fast mode, parts are copied without re-encoding, and a copied part can only begin on a key frame, so each part ends at the last key frame before the limit. Choose Exact lengths to cut at the exact length instead (the parts are then re-encoded).

Will my photos stay sharp on WhatsApp?

They are saved at 1080 × 1920 in high-quality JPEG, with optional sharpening. WhatsApp’s Help Center says that HD media isn’t supported for statuses and that media posted to a Status may be shown at a lower quality than the original, so WhatsApp may still make them smaller and compress them when you post them; this page cannot change that.

How do I post the parts?

On a phone, press Share… and pick WhatsApp, then My status. Or download the ZIP, open it in your phone’s Files app, and in WhatsApp go to Updates, add a status, and pick the parts in order — part 1 first.

Can I download someone else’s status here?

No. This page only prepares photos and videos you already have on your device.

Are my photos and videos uploaded?

No. They are read, cut and encoded inside your browser, and nothing leaves your device. There is no watermark; the only logo is the one you add.
