About the Nepal SSF Pension & Social Security Contribution Calculator

Work out the contributions to Nepal’s Social Security Fund (SSF, सामाजिक सुरक्षा कोष) on a basic remuneration (आधारभूत पारिश्रमिक): the 11% your employer deducts from your basic salary, the 20% it adds on top, and how the Fund shares the 31% among its four schemes — medical treatment, health and maternity (1%), accident and disability (1.40%), dependent family (0.27%) and old age (28.33%, of which 20% goes to the pension and 8.33% to the retirement lump sum). Add a voluntary extra contribution to see what it takes from your basic salary and adds to your retirement benefit, and total any number of months.

The rates are those of the Social Security Scheme Operation Procedure, 2075 (section 25), made under the Contribution Based Social Security Act, 2074, and SSF’s guide to the formal-sector scheme. Nothing you type leaves your browser. Without a pass the page shows a free preview of your own result: the total deposit each month, with the first rows of each table, while every other figure stays hidden until you unlock it with a Pro pass.

How to use it

  1. Enter the basic remuneration: the basic salary without allowances, for a month or for a year.
  2. Optionally enter a voluntary extra contribution a month, and how many months to add up (12 for a year).
  3. Read what is deducted from the salary, what the employer adds, the total deposit and its split into the schemes; copy the summary or download the CSV with a pass, or after unlocking this result.

Common uses

  • Checking the SSF line on a payslip against the basic salary.
  • Seeing an employer’s full cost of a salary with its 20% contribution.
  • Planning a voluntary extra contribution and what it leaves of the basic salary.

Who pays what

Section 25 of the Social Security Scheme Operation Procedure, 2075 has the employer deduct 11% of the worker’s basic remuneration, add 20% of it, and deposit the total of 31% with the Fund. Both shares are of the basic remuneration, not of allowances or the gross salary. The employer’s 20% is a cost on top of the salary: on a basic of Rs. 30,000 the employer pays Rs. 36,000 in all.

The four schemes

The Fund shares the 31% among four schemes (section 25):

  • medical treatment, health and maternity protection: 1%;
  • accident and disability protection: 1.40%;
  • dependent family protection: 0.27%;
  • old-age protection: 28.33%.

SSF’s formal-sector scheme guide shows the first three, 2.67% together, as the social insurance fund, which pays insured benefits and is not paid back, and the old-age share as the contributor’s own account: 20% for the pension (निवृत्तभरण) and 8.33% for the retirement lump sum (अवकाश सुविधा).

Voluntary contributions

An employee may deposit more than the 31% of their own accord; the guide says such voluntary amounts go to the retirement benefit. The calculator adds the extra to what is deducted from the salary and to the retirement part of the old-age account.

Limitations

  • For employees in the formal sector, whose employer deducts and adds the contributions. Self-employed, informal-sector and foreign-employment contributors follow their own schemes.
  • Uses the basic remuneration you enter; it does not check it against the minimum remuneration the Government of Nepal sets.
  • Works out contributions only, not income tax or the pension, lump sum and other benefits the schemes pay.
  • Each share is rounded to the paisa, and the old-age share takes any paisa the rounding leaves, so the four schemes add up to the deposit; SSF’s own system may round a figure differently by a paisa or a rupee.
  • For a worker who joins the Fund after the age of 60 while still employed, the operation procedure puts the 20% pension share into the retirement lump sum instead; the split shown is the usual one.

Frequently asked questions

What do I get without a pass?

Without a pass, Nepal SSF Pension & Social Security Contribution Calculator shows the total deposit each month in full, with the first rows of each table (up to 3); every other figure is hidden. Until you unlock it, the result can’t be downloaded or copied. A Pro, Premium or Ultimate pass, a one-time payment that never renews, unlocks the full result. The pricing page lists the passes and their prices.

What percentage is the SSF contribution in Nepal?

31% of the basic remuneration: 11% deducted from the employee’s basic salary and 20% added by the employer. On a basic of Rs. 25,000 a month that is Rs. 2,750 from the employee and Rs. 5,000 from the employer, Rs. 7,750 in all.

How is the 31% split?

1% to medical treatment, health and maternity protection, 1.40% to accident and disability protection, 0.27% to dependent family protection and 28.33% to old-age protection, of which 20% is for the pension and 8.33% for the retirement lump sum.

Is SSF worked out on the gross salary or the basic salary?

On the basic remuneration (आधारभूत पारिश्रमिक), not on allowances or the gross salary: the procedure’s 11% and 20% are both shares of the basic remuneration.

Can I contribute more than 11%?

Yes. An employee may add a voluntary contribution, which SSF’s guide says goes to the retirement benefit. It is taken from the salary like the 11%; the employer’s 20% stays a share of the basic remuneration.

Is what I type sent anywhere?

No. Everything is worked out in your browser; nothing you enter is uploaded or stored on a server.
