About the Germany Pension Estimate Calculator (Rentenpunkte)
Estimate your German statutory pension (gesetzliche Rente) the way the pension insurance works it out: your pension points (Entgeltpunkte) times the access factor, the pension type factor and the current pension value of 42,52 € per point (§ 64 SGB VI, RWBestV). Start from your gross pay and working years, or from the points in your pension statement, and choose when you retire: at the standard age for your year of birth, from 63 with a deduction of 0,3 % a month, without a deduction at 65 after 45 years, or later with 0,5 % more a month.
The calculator then takes off health and care insurance as the pension insurance does, estimates the income tax with the taxable share for the year your pension starts, and compares the pension at every age from 63 to 70. Everything is in today’s values. Nothing you enter leaves your browser.
How to use it
- Enter your date of birth: it sets your standard retirement age and the month your pension starts.
- Choose how to count your pension points: estimate them from your gross pay, the age you started paying in, years without contributions and children credited to you, or enter the points and years so far from your pension statement (Renteninformation) with your pay until you retire.
- Choose when your pension starts, your health insurance in retirement and whether to estimate the income tax.
- Read the gross and net pension a month, how it is worked out, the income tax and what retiring earlier or later changes.
- With a Pro pass, or after unlocking this result, copy the working or download it as a CSV file; without one the page shows a free preview.
Examples
Gross 1.913,40 € a month (45 × 42,52 €); after health and care insurance 1.677,10 €.
As the only income of a single person, about 81,75 € a month of income tax: 89,5 % of a pension starting in 2037 is taxable.
Access factor 0,856: 1.637,87 € gross a month, 14,4 % less for as long as it is paid.
At 65 the 45 years bring the full pension without a deduction.
Access factor 1,060: 2.028,20 € gross a month.
36,03 points at 67: 1.532,06 € gross a month.
Each child credited brings 36 months of child raising, 2,9988 points.
1,9521 points a year, the most there is: 3.486,14 € gross a month.
How the pension is worked out
Each year you pay in earns your pay divided by the average earnings of that year (51.944 € for the current year, provisionally) in pension points, so a year at average pay earns one point (§ 70 SGB VI, annex 1). Pay above the contribution ceiling of 101.400 € a year earns nothing more, at most 1,9521 points a year. Child raising adds 0,0833 points a month for 36 months for each child (§ 56, § 70 (2)); Mütterrente III gives children born before 1992 the same 36 months (German Pension Insurance).
The monthly pension is the points times the access factor, the pension type factor (1,0 for an old-age pension) and the pension value of 42,52 € per point, which is raised every July. With 45 points, the standard pensioner (Eckrentner) gets 1.913,40 € a month before deductions.
When you can retire
- Standard age: 67 for everyone born from 1964; 66 for those born in 1958 and 2 months more for each year from 1959 to 1963 (§ 235 SGB VI).
- From 63 with 35 years of insurance: 0,3 % less for each month before the standard age, 14,4 % at 63 for those born from 1964 (§ 36, § 77).
- 45 years: no deduction from 65 for those born from 1964, from 63 plus 2 months for each year of birth after 1952 for those born from 1953 to 1963 (§ 38, § 236b).
- Later: 0,5 % more for each month you start after the standard age.
From gross to net pension
In the pensioners’ health insurance you pay half of the general rate of 14,6 % and half of your fund’s additional rate on the pension; the pension insurance pays the other half (§§ 247, 249a SGB V). Care insurance of 3,6 % (4,2 % without children) you pay alone (§ 59 SGB XI). Privately insured pensioners get a subsidy of half the general rate plus the average additional rate, at most half their health premium (§ 106 SGB VI).
A share of the pension is taxable, fixed by the year it starts and rising by 0,5 points for each later year until it reaches 100 % for pensions starting from 2058 (§ 22 EStG); the calculator takes the share of your start year. From it come a lump sum of 102 € for expenses, the health and care contributions and 36 € for special expenses; the income tax tariff applies to the rest.
Limitations
- Your real points come from your insurance record (Versicherungsverlauf): training, unemployment, illness, care and child raising each count in their own way. The estimate from pay assumes the same share of average pay over your whole career.
- Disability and survivors’ pensions, the basic pension supplement (Grundrente), pension splitting, buying back a deduction and the rules for severely disabled people, miners and farmers are not covered.
- Amounts are in today’s values: future pension increases and changes to the pension value, contribution rates or tax rules are not predicted.
- The income tax is estimated as if the pension were your only income; other income, company or private pensions and the care contribution reductions for children under 25 are not included.
- An estimate from the published rules, not pension or tax advice: your pension notice decides.

Frequently asked questions
What do I get without a pass?
Without a pass, Germany Pension Estimate Calculator (Rentenpunkte) shows the labels of each table’s first rows (up to 3), with your gross pension, the net pension, your points, the deduction or bonus and every figure hidden. Until you unlock it, the result can’t be downloaded or copied. A Pro, Premium or Ultimate pass, a one-time payment that never renews, unlocks the full result. The pricing page lists the passes and their prices.
How much pension does one year of work bring in Germany?
A year at the average earnings of 51.944 € earns one pension point, worth 42,52 € a month of pension in today’s values; half the average pay earns half a point.
What is my retirement age?
67 for everyone born from 1964. For those born from 1958 to 1963 it is between 66 and 66 and 10 months. With 35 years of insurance you can retire from 63 with a deduction, and with 45 years at 65 without one (earlier for those born before 1964).
How much does retiring at 63 cost?
0,3 % of the pension for each month before your standard age, for as long as you draw it: 14,4 % at 63 for those born from 1964. For a pension of 1.913,40 € that is 275,53 € a month less, before the fewer points from the years you no longer pay in.
How much of my pension is taxed?
The taxable share depends on the year your pension starts: it rises by 0,5 points for each later year, to 100 % for pensions starting from 2058, and is 89,5 % for a start in 2037. The tax-free part is fixed in euros, so later increases are taxed in full. Whether you pay tax depends on your total income: as the only income of a single person, the 45-point pension of 1.913,40 € starting in 2037 costs about 81,75 € a month.
How much is taken off for health and care insurance?
With the average additional rate of 2,9 %: 8,75 % for health and 3,6 % for care (4,2 % without children), together 12,35 % of the pension, or 236,30 € on 1.913,40 €.
