About the Marketplace Reports to Tally XML for Indian Sellers
Marketplace accounting in Tally means three kinds of entries every month: the sales and returns from the GST report, the fees the marketplace kept with the GST on them, and the TCS and TDS it held back — then the payout to the bank. This tool reads the reports you download from Meesho, Flipkart and Amazon.in (and any marketplace whose columns you match) and writes them as TallyPrime import XML: sales vouchers and credit notes, one per order line or one per day, and for every payout a receipt and a journal for the fees, input GST, TCS and TDS. An Excel journal of the same entries is there for BUSY and other software.
Ledger names are yours — the marketplace as a party, sales ledgers by GST rate, fee ledgers, input and output GST, TCS and TDS receivable — and are kept in this browser. Before export every voucher is checked: debits equal credits, every ledger named, sales lines with an HSN code. Reports with several GSTINs give one import file per company. Your books data stays on your device.
How to use it
- Add the GST or tax reports (Meesho’s tcs_sales and tcs_sales_return, Flipkart’s Sales Report, Amazon’s MTR) for the sales and returns, and the payments files for the fees, TCS, TDS and payouts — the same months.
- Check the companies: for each GSTIN in the reports, enter the company name exactly as in Tally (empty imports into the company that is open). Choose one voucher per order line or per day.
- Open Ledgers and write your ledger names: the party ledger of each marketplace, the sales and sales-returns ledgers (“{rate}” is replaced by the GST rate), output and input GST, the fee ledgers, TCS and TDS receivable and your bank ledger.
- Say how the payments file shows fees: with GST included (split out as input GST at the rate you enter) or without it, and whether the marketplace charges IGST or CGST + SGST on them.
- Read the checks, then, with a Premium pass or once this result is unlocked, download the Tally files (.zip). In TallyPrime import the masters file first (Import → Masters, ignore duplicates), then the vouchers file (Import → Transactions). The Excel journal holds the same entries for other software.

Common uses
- A seller or accountant posting a month of Meesho, Flipkart and Amazon sales, fees and payouts into Tally in one import.
- A CA firm keeping one company per client GSTIN, with each client’s ledger names saved.
- Moving marketplace entries into BUSY or other software through the Excel journal.
How the entries fit together
The marketplace is a debtor: each sale debits its party ledger with the invoice value, and each return credits it. Each payout credits it twice — with the amount that reached the bank (the receipt) and with what the marketplace kept for its fees, TCS and TDS (the journal) — so once a month’s sales are settled, the party ledger shows only what is still to be paid. Compensation and other credits are credited to their own ledger; advertising and other charges not tied to an order get their own journal. TCS receivable is what you claim on the GST portal and TDS receivable what you claim in your income-tax return; to check both, use E-commerce TCS & TDS Credit Reconciliation.
The files
The XML is Tally’s data-interchange format, written by the same writer as Excel to Tally XML: an import request for “All Masters” or “Vouchers”, one message per ledger or voucher, accounting voucher view, dates as YYYYMMDD and debits negative — see Tally’s sample XML and importing XML into TallyPrime. New ledgers are created under Sundry Debtors, Sales Accounts, Duties & Taxes (as GST ledgers with their duty head), Indirect Expenses and Incomes and Current Assets; your bank ledger is used as it is unless you ask for it to be created.
Checks before export
- Every voucher’s debits equal its credits (a voucher that does not balance is left out and listed).
- Every line has a GST rate, so its sales ledger is known.
- Sales lines without an HSN code are pointed out: Tally’s GSTR-1 takes HSN codes from the sales ledger or the stock item, so set them there.
- Payouts whose amount columns do not add up to the amount paid are pointed out (the difference stays on the party ledger).
Limitations
- It writes accounting vouchers (ledger amounts), not item invoices with stock items, quantities or godowns.
- Each company is set up differently: import into a copy of the company first and check the Day Book and the import report before relying on it.
- The XML follows Tally’s documented import format; how your sales and tax ledgers are configured decides what Tally’s own GST reports show.
- Presets match the columns of the reports as sellers download them; check the column matches, especially the payments file’s amount columns.
- Not accounting or tax advice: you answer for the entries in your books.
Privacy
Your reports and the files made from them stay in this browser: nothing is uploaded. Ledger names, companies and settings are kept in this browser until you remove them.
Frequently asked questions
What do I get without a pass?
Without a pass, Marketplace Reports to Tally XML for Indian Sellers shows the voucher counts and checks, with the first vouchers (up to 10; a single one with its entries hidden) as a read-only table; the XML itself is never shown. Until you unlock it, the result can’t be downloaded. A Premium or Ultimate pass, a one-time payment that never renews, unlocks the full result. The pricing page lists the passes and their prices.
Does it work with Tally.ERP 9 as well as TallyPrime?
Yes: the files use Tally’s data-interchange XML, which both read. In TallyPrime use Import → Masters, then Transactions; in Tally.ERP 9 use Import of Data → Masters, then Vouchers.
Why is the marketplace a party ledger and not the customer?
The marketplace collects from the customer and pays you, so it owes you until the payout. Booking sales against it lets its ledger show what is still unpaid; the customer details stay in the marketplace’s reports.
How are fees with GST handled?
With “fees include GST” ticked, each fee is split into the fee and the GST at the rate you enter (18% by default), posted to the fee ledger and to input IGST, or CGST and SGST in halves. Check them against the marketplace’s tax invoices for its fees, which are what entitle you to the input tax credit.
What if I import the same month twice?
Tally creates the vouchers again: it cannot know they were imported before. Keep track of the months you import, and delete the vouchers of a month before importing it again.
What is in the Excel journal?
Every entry of every voucher on its own row — company, voucher type, date, number, reference, ledger, debit or credit and narration — and the ledgers with their groups, for software that imports a journal from Excel.
