Your ad reports

Add the reports you download from Amazon Ads, Flipkart Ads and Meesho Ads for the same period: campaign, search term, targeting and advertised product reports, and the business or sales report for TACoS. Each sheet is recognised from its headings; check the columns once and they are remembered.

No files to hand? (a made-up seller) or to see the layouts.

    Your costs

Profit and break-even ACoS come from what a sale leaves you before ads. Fill in a typical product, used for every campaign whose own SKUs you have not costed, and the costs of your SKUs below or in a cost sheet in step 1.

    Your typical product
As shoppers pay it, the way the ad reports count sales.
The rate inside the selling price.
What a unit costs you (without the GST you claim back).
    Referral or commission fee.
    Per unit.
Per unit, what the marketplace charges.
    Per unit.
    Customer returns and RTOs.
    Return shipping, a damaged unit.
If you know it, it is used instead of the costs.

A registered seller claims it as input tax credit, so it is not a cost. Leave it unticked if you cannot: it is then added to the fees and to the ad spend.

    Costs per SKU

Add an advertised product report (Amazon), an FSN report (Flipkart) or a catalog report (Meesho) in step 1 to cost each advertised SKU here. Until then the typical product is used.

    Targets and rules

Empty: each campaign’s break-even ACoS. Set it lower to keep a profit after ads.

About the Marketplace Ads Profitability Analyzer

Your ad consoles tell you ACoS and ROAS; they do not tell you whether the ads make money after the product, the marketplace's fees, shipping, GST and returns. This tool reads the reports you download yourself — Amazon Ads (Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands and Sponsored Display: search term, targeting, advertised product and campaign reports, or a bulk file), Flipkart Ads and Meesho Ads, in India or any Amazon store — with your business or sales report and your own costs, and works out the break-even ACoS of every product and the profit after ads of every campaign, ad group, keyword, search term and word.

You see ACoS against break-even, TACoS (ad spend as a share of all sales), the spend that brought no order, where the profit is made and lost, and what to change: negatives to add, search terms to add as keywords, and bid changes towards your target ACoS. Several files and marketplaces go in at once; amounts in different currencies are kept apart.

Without a pass the result is a free preview: every count and total, the profit, ACoS, TACoS, break-even and wasted spend in full, and the first rows of each list; the full lists, the Excel and PDF reports, the CSV lists, the bulk file and the periods you keep unlock with a Premium pass. Your reports are read in your browser and never uploaded.

    How to use it

    1. Get the reports of the same period from your ad consoles: from Amazon Ads (Reports → Sponsored Products: Search term, Targeting, Advertised product and Campaign; Sponsored Brands and Sponsored Display likewise, or Bulk operations), the campaign, keyword or FSN report from Flipkart Ads, and the ads report from Meesho Ads. For TACoS add the business report from Seller Central (Reports → Business Reports) or any sales report with SKU and sales.
    2. Drop them all into step 1, several files and marketplaces at once. Each sheet shows what it was taken for; open Columns to check or change any column. Your matches are kept for files with the same columns.
    3. In step 2 fill in your typical product (selling price, GST, cost, commission, fixed fee, shipping, packaging and returns, or simply its margin before ads), and the costs of your SKUs in the table or in a cost sheet. In step 3 set a target ACoS, or leave it at each campaign’s break-even.
    4. Read the result: profit after ads, ACoS against break-even, TACoS and the spend with no order, then Campaigns, Ad groups, Keywords & targets, Search terms, Words, Products and Actions: negatives, keywords to add and bid changes.
    5. With a Premium pass, or once this result is unlocked, download the full report (Excel) or the PDF, the negatives and bid changes as CSV, copy the negatives to paste into your ad console, and keep each period in this browser to compare months.

    Examples

    Break-even ACoS of one product
    Input
    Steel bottle sold at ₹599 incl. 18% GST · cost ₹205 · commission 12% + ₹26 closing fee · ₹62 shipping · ₹14 packing · 4% returns at ₹70 each
    Result
    ₹599 ÷ 1.18 = ₹507.63; less ₹159.88 fees, ₹205 and ₹14 = ₹128.75 a delivered order; with returns ₹120.80 an order: break-even ACoS 20.2%
    A campaign that loses money
    Input
Broad campaign: spend ₹3,692, ad sales ₹7,187 (ACoS 51.4%); its two bottles blend to a break-even ACoS of 19.3%
    Result
Profit after ads −₹2,303.53 · lower the “water bottle” bid from ₹11.00 a click to ₹7.70 (30% at most at once) · 3 search terms to add as negatives
    Spend with no order
    Input
“electric lunch box”: 26 clicks, ₹338, no order; one lunch box order leaves ₹195 before ads
    Result
Add it as a negative exact in that ad group: it has already spent more than one order’s profit
    TACoS across marketplaces
    Input
Ad spend ₹29,322 on Amazon, Flipkart and Meesho · total sales ₹2,65,737 (Amazon’s business report and the totals typed in for the other two)
    Result
TACoS 11.0%, and 58% of sales came without an ad click
A search term to add as a keyword
    Input
“steel lunch box for office” in a phrase campaign: 7 orders at 12.8% ACoS, ₹13 a click
    Result
Add it as an exact keyword, starting at ₹16.90 a click (₹13 + 30%)

    Common uses

    • Month-end check of Amazon, Flipkart and Meesho ads against product costs before the next month’s budgets.
    • Finding the search terms and words that eat the budget without an order, and the ones to bid on as exact keywords.
    • Setting bids and a target ACoS from each product’s real margin instead of a rule of thumb.
    • Agencies and accountants reporting a seller’s ad profitability by campaign and SKU, as an Excel or PDF report.

How the figures are worked out

    • ACoS = ad spend ÷ ad sales × 100, and ROAS = ad sales ÷ ad spend (Amazon Ads: ACoS, Amazon Ads: ROAS). Flipkart and Meesho call ROAS “ROI”.
    • TACoS = ad spend ÷ total sales × 100: ads as a share of every sale, with and without ads (Amazon Ads guide).
    • Break-even ACoS = the margin before ads. Amazon Ads puts it plainly: to keep a profit, your ACoS must stay below your profit margin (Amazon Ads: ACoS).
    • Profit after ads = ad sales × margin before ads − ad spend.
    • CPC = spend ÷ clicks: what a click cost in the auction, which is based on your bid and its adjustments (Amazon Ads: CPC); CTR = clicks ÷ impressions; conversion rate = orders ÷ clicks.

ACoS, ROAS, CTR and conversion rate are worked out from the spend, sales, clicks and orders of the reports, never copied from their columns, so every row is worked out the same way.

    Break-even ACoS from your costs

For a selling price P that includes GST at rate g (prices on Amazon.in, Flipkart and Meesho do; where tax is added at checkout, untick “Selling prices include GST or VAT”):

    • price without GST = P ÷ (1 + g)
    • fees = commission % × P + fixed or closing fee + shipping or fulfilment
    • profit of a delivered order = price without GST − fees − cost price − packaging and other costs
    • profit of an order = (1 − returns %) × profit of a delivered order − returns % × cost of one return
    • break-even ACoS = profit of an order ÷ P

A registered seller claims the GST on fees and ad invoices as input tax credit, so it is not a cost; if you cannot claim it, untick the box and it is added to the fees and to the ad spend (the break-even ACoS your console shows is then the margin ÷ (1 + GST rate)). TCS and TDS that marketplaces hold back are not costs either: you claim them back. A campaign’s break-even weighs its own advertised products by their ad sales; without an advertised product report it uses a SKU written in the campaign name, else your typical product. A cost a SKU leaves empty, in your cost sheet or in the table of SKUs, is your typical product’s, and an empty selling price is the SKU’s average price in your ad reports (its sales ÷ its units).

    Which report gives what

    • Campaign report: each campaign’s totals, including impressions without a click. With it, campaign figures never come from the other reports, so nothing is counted twice.
    • Search term report: the words shoppers typed (Amazon lists only terms that got a click): spend with no order, negatives, keywords to add, and the words (single words and pairs) that sell or waste.
    • Targeting or keyword report: every keyword and product target, for bid changes; without it they are worked out from the search terms.
    • Advertised product report (Flipkart: FSN report; Meesho: catalog report): spend and sales by SKU, so every campaign gets its own products’ margin, and TACoS by product with a sales report.
    • Bulk file: your current bids, ids and negatives; bid changes start from your bid instead of the cost per click, negatives already in place are not offered again, and the changes can be downloaded as a bulk file.
    • Business or sales report: every sale, with and without ads, for TACoS.

Sponsored Products counts sales for 7 days after a click, Sponsored Brands and Display for 14; Flipkart’s direct revenue is the advertised product and its indirect revenue your other products bought after the click; both are added to the ad sales.

Negatives, keywords to add and bid changes

    • Negative exact: a search term with no order after your number of clicks (10 to start with), or that has spent more than one order’s profit (its order value × break-even ACoS), in that ad group. ASINs become negative product targets.
    • Negative phrase: a word or pair of words in two or more search terms that never sold.
    • Keyword to add: a search term with at least your number of orders (2 to start with) at or below the target ACoS that is not yet an exact keyword, with a starting bid.
    • Bid change: the bid moves towards sales per click × target ACoS — the same as cost per click × target ÷ ACoS — by at most your step (30% to start with), from your current bid when a bulk file gives it. A keyword with no order after your clicks is lowered by the step, and paused once it has spent more than one order’s profit.

They are suggestions from your own figures: check them against your stock, seasons and plans before you change a campaign.

    Limitations

    • It reads the files you download; it does not connect to Amazon, Flipkart or Meesho, never asks for your seller login or an API key and cannot change a campaign for you.
    • Ad sales are what the consoles attribute to ads within their windows (7 or 14 days on Amazon; Flipkart’s and Meesho’s own rules), so they can differ from the orders in your order report.
    • Sales of your other products bought after an ad click (Amazon’s other SKU sales, Flipkart’s indirect revenue) are valued at the campaign’s margin.
    • Presets match the columns of the reports as they download today; consoles rename columns from time to time and reports in other languages need their columns chosen once under “Columns”.
    • At most 50,000 rows are read from one sheet: split a longer period into several files.
    • Suggested bids start from your current bid only with a bulk file, otherwise from the cost per click; the consoles have minimum bids of their own.
    • The figures show where to look; they are not financial or tax advice.

    Frequently asked questions

What do I get without a pass?

Without a pass, Marketplace Ads Profitability Analyzer shows every count and total, the profit, ACoS, TACoS, break-even and wasted spend, and the first rows of each list (up to 10; a single row with its results hidden). Until you unlock it, the result can’t be downloaded or copied. A Premium or Ultimate pass, a one-time payment that never renews, unlocks the full result. The pricing page lists the passes and their prices.

What do ACoS, TACoS and ROAS mean?

ACoS is ad spend as a share of the sales the ads brought (₹25 spent for ₹100 of ad sales is 25%), and ROAS the other way round (4.0). TACoS divides the same spend by all your sales, with and without ads, so it shows what ads cost the whole business. Amazon Ads explains ACoS, ROAS and TACoS.

How is break-even ACoS worked out?

It is your margin before ads: the selling price without GST, less the marketplace’s commission and fees, shipping, the product’s cost, packaging and the cost of returns, as a share of the selling price. At an ACoS below it the ads make money; above it every ad sale loses money. Each campaign uses the margins of the products it advertises.

    Which reports do I need?

One ad report is enough to start: a campaign report gives campaign totals, a search term report adds negatives, keywords to add and words, an advertised product report gives each campaign its own products’ margin, and a business or sales report gives TACoS. Add the reports of the same dates.

Does it read Flipkart Ads and Meesho Ads reports?

Yes: Flipkart’s campaign, keyword and FSN reports (views, clicks, ad spend, direct and indirect units and revenue) and Meesho’s campaign and catalog reports (views, clicks, ad spend, orders and revenue). Their “ROI” is revenue ÷ ad spend, which is ROAS here. Check the column matches the first time.

Why is the ACoS different from the one in my ad console?

Usually because the reports cover different dates, or because the console rounds each row and this tool adds them up first. Ad consoles leave the GST on their invoices out of ACoS, and so does this tool; it adds that GST to the costs only when you say you cannot claim it.

Can I upload the bid changes to Amazon?

With a bulk file from Amazon Ads (Bulk operations, with the performance data) in step 1, the bid changes, pauses and new negatives of Sponsored Products come as a bulk file with the right ids, to check and upload under Bulk operations. Without one, the CSV lists have every change to make by hand.

    Are my reports uploaded anywhere?

No. They are read in your browser, in a background worker, and nothing is sent to MySmartCoPilot or anyone else. What you keep (column matches, costs, settings and periods) stays in this browser.
