Show

Drag a card to another column (on a touch screen, press and hold it first), or tap its move button to choose where it goes. With a keyboard: focus the move button, press Space, use the arrow keys (Page Up and Page Down for another lane) and press Space again; Escape puts it back and M opens the Move dialog.

Data and backup

Your data

Always available: a backup of this board, and its cards as CSV for a spreadsheet.

Documents from the board

A Markdown copy for a wiki or a status update, a printed board and the due dates in your calendar.

Import

A Trello board’s JSON export, this tool’s backup, or a CSV file of cards (Title, Column, Lane, Labels, Due, Owner, Notes, Checklist). A Trello board or a backup becomes a new board; CSV cards are added to this board.

About the Kanban Board (Private, Works Offline)

A kanban board for your own work or a small project that runs entirely in this browser. Make columns for the stages of your work with work-in-progress (WIP) limits, add swimlanes for kinds of work or teams, and keep cards with checklists, labels, a due date, an owner and notes. Drag cards between columns with a mouse or a finger, or move them with the keyboard. Search and filters find cards by text, label, owner, due date or blocked state.

Keep several boards and an archive. Each card shows how many days it has spent in its column, and the flow report gives cycle times, a cycle-time chart and the cards finished each week. Bring a board in from a Trello JSON export or a CSV file; back up any board as JSON or its cards as CSV.

Boards stay on this device: there is no sharing and no live collaboration, and nothing is uploaded. The board, imports, backups and CSV always work; with a Pro pass you also get the full flow report and its files, the Markdown copy, the printed board and the due dates as a calendar file — without one, the report shows as a free preview.

            How to use it

            1. Use the board you see first, or press New board and pick a set of columns. Board settings names columns, sets their WIP limits, adds swimlanes and labels, and says where work starts and finishes.
            2. Press Add card (or Add a card under a column), give it a title and fill in what you need: notes, a checklist, labels, a due date, an owner, blocked.
            3. Drag a card to move it. With the keyboard, focus its move button, press Space, move it with the arrow keys and press Space again; press M for the Move dialog.
            4. Archive finished cards, search and filter the board, and open the Flow report to see cycle times and throughput.
            5. Under Data and backup, download a backup or the cards as CSV at any time; with a Pro pass, download or copy the board as Markdown, print it, add its due dates to your calendar and download the flow report — without one, they stay locked in the free preview.

            Examples

            A WIP limit at work
            Input
Column “In progress” with a WIP limit of 3 holds 4 cards
            Result
The column turns red and says “Over the WIP limit: 4 cards, limit 3.” The count shows 4/3.

The limit warns but never stops a move: Kanban treats it as a policy the team agrees on.

            A CSV file of cards
            Input
            Title,Column,Lane,Labels,Due,Owner,Notes,Checklist
            Write the launch post,To do,,Idea,2027-01-15,Asha,Two versions,[ ] Outline; [ ] Draft
            Result
A card “Write the launch post” in To do with the Idea label, due on 15 January, owner Asha and a two-item checklist. Columns, lanes and labels the file names are created when missing.
            Cycle time
            Input
A card enters Ready on Monday (where work starts) and Done on the Thursday of the next week
            Result
Cycle time 10 days: the time from when it started to when it finished.

            Columns, WIP limits and swimlanes

Each column is a stage of your work. A work-in-progress limit is the most cards a column should hold at once; Kanban University’s guide to the Kanban Method explains why: limiting work in progress balances how busy people are with how smoothly the work flows, and a column below its limit is the signal to pull the next card (“stop starting, start finishing”). Here the count shows as cards/limit, and a column over its limit turns red; moves are never blocked.

Swimlanes are rows across the board, for kinds of work (expedite and standard) or for people or teams. With more than one lane the board shows each lane’s cards in every column.

Card age, cycle time and the flow report

The Kanban Guide defines four flow metrics: work in progress (items started but not finished), throughput (items finished per unit of time), work item age (the time since an item started) and cycle time (the time from when an item started to when it finished). Where work starts and where it is finished is your board’s policy: set both in Board settings.

Each card shows the days it has spent in its current column. The flow report counts the cards finished in a period, gives the median cycle time and the time 85 % of cards finished within, the cards finished each week, the work in progress now and how long cards have waited in each column, with a chart of every finished card’s cycle time.

Import from Trello or a spreadsheet

            • Trello: on the board, open the menu, choose Print, export and share, then Export as JSON, and choose the file here. Lists become columns (archived lists are left out), and cards keep their description, labels, due date, checklists, first member as owner (the others go into the notes) and archived state. Moves between lists come from the activity in the export, so older history may be missing; the board starts counting from then on. Attachments, comments and custom fields are not imported.
            • CSV: a header row and one card per row, with the columns Title, Column, Lane, Labels, Due, Owner, Notes, Checklist and Blocked (other usual names work too). Checklist items are separated by semicolons; “[x]” marks one done. Download the template to see it.
            • Backups of this tool (one board or all of them) come back as boards.

Your boards stay on this device

Everything is saved in this browser’s storage on this device as you work: you don’t need an account, nothing is uploaded and MySmartCoPilot has no copy. That also means no sharing, no sync and no live collaboration: to move a board to another device or to give it to someone, download a backup and import it there. Clearing this site’s data in the browser deletes the boards, so download a backup now and then.

            Limitations

            • One browser on one device: no sharing, sync or live collaboration. Other tabs of the board in the same browser stay in step.
            • The browser gives the site a few megabytes of storage for all its tools; a board with thousands of long cards can fill it. The page says when a change could not be saved.
            • Up to 50 boards, 20 columns, 10 lanes, 30 labels and 2,000 cards a board.
            • Moves recorded before you started using the board (or before a Trello export’s activity) are not known, so their cycle times cannot be worked out.

            Privacy

Everything happens in your browser. Boards, cards and their history are kept in this browser’s storage on this device and are never uploaded. Backups and exports are files you download yourself.

            Frequently asked questions

What do I get without a pass?

Without a pass, Kanban Board (Private, Works Offline) shows your boards and cards in full, and the flow report’s counts with the first rows of each table (up to 10) and watermarked charts. Until you unlock it, the result can’t be downloaded, copied or printed. A Pro, Premium or Ultimate pass, a one-time payment that never renews, unlocks the full result. The pricing page lists the passes and their prices.

            Is my board private?

Yes. It is saved only in this browser on this device and never sent to MySmartCoPilot or anyone else. Anyone who uses this browser profile can open it, so use your own profile on a shared computer.

Can my team use the same board?

Not together from different devices: there is no sync or live collaboration. One person can keep the board and share a backup file, which others import as a copy of their own.

How do I move my boards to another device?

Under Data and backup, download the backup of every board, open this page on the other device and choose that file under Import. Each board comes back with its cards and history.

What should a WIP limit be?

Start near the number of people (or the number of things you can really work on at once) for each column, watch where cards wait, and adjust. The limit is a policy for your own board: it warns when a column is over it and never stops a move.

            How is cycle time measured?

From the first time a card enters the column where work starts (or any column to its right) to when it reaches the finished column (or a column after it, such as Released), in days. Choose both columns in Board settings. A card moved back to a column before the finished one counts as not finished.
