Instagram Line Break Generator (Caption & Bio Spacer)
Blank lines that stay blank — with a live preview and the caption limits checked.
Instagram does not publish this limit; 150 is the figure most often quoted. Change it if your app shows another.
Empty lines are filled with an invisible spacer; your text stays on this device.

About the Instagram Line Break Generator (Caption & Bio Spacer)
Paste your caption or bio, and every empty line between your paragraphs is filled with an invisible spacer, so the spacing you typed is the spacing people see. Spaces left at the end of lines are removed too, and blank lines at the very start and end are dropped. A phone-style preview shows the post with the “… more” fold, and counters check the 2,200-character caption limit, the 5-hashtag limit and the 20 @ mentions Instagram allows.
The default spacer is U+2800 BRAILLE PATTERN BLANK. Unicode describes it as drawn like a blank in many fonts but not acting as a space, so apps that trim spaces from text leave it alone. Instagram does not document how it cleans up captions, so a spacer character is the dependable way to keep an empty line. Optionally, the hashtags at the end of a caption can be moved below a few dotted lines, so they sit under the fold.
How to use it
- Choose where the text is going: an Instagram caption, an Instagram bio, a Threads post or a TikTok caption.
- Type or paste your text, with empty lines where you want space.
- Leave the spacer on Braille pattern blank, or pick another; tick Move hashtags below a separator if you want the hashtags pushed down.
- Check the counters and the preview, then press Copy and paste into the app.

Each empty line now holds U+2800 (it looks empty), and the two spaces after the emoji are gone. The caption is 45 characters: each spacer and each line break counts as one.

With Move hashtags below a separator on, the hashtags at the end are joined on one line under three dots. Hashtags inside sentences are left where they are.
Common uses
- Breaking a long Instagram caption into readable paragraphs.
- Spacing a bio over several lines with a blank line between them.
- Keeping the same spacing when one caption is posted to Instagram, Threads and TikTok.
- Moving a block of hashtags below a dotted separator so it is hidden under “… more”.
Which spacer should I use?
- Braille pattern blank (U+2800) — recommended. It is a symbol, not a space, so it survives trimming; in most fonts it is drawn as an empty cell.
- Hangul filler (U+3164) — an invisible Korean letter. Unicode marks it default-ignorable, which means some apps remove it or show a box.
- Zero-width space (U+200B) — takes up no room, but it is the easiest for an app to strip, which brings the empty line back.
- A dot — visible, but it is never removed; many creators use a single dot on its own line on purpose.
Every spacer counts as one character towards the limit. More invisible characters, with what each is for, are in Invisible Character.
The limits checked here
- Instagram caption: 2,200 characters, at most 20 @ mentions (Instagram API reference) and at most 5 hashtags since 18 December 2025 (Instagram Help Centre).
- Instagram bio: Instagram does not publish its bio limit. 150 characters is the figure most often quoted; type a different number if the counter in your app shows one.
- Threads post: 500 characters, with each emoji counted as its UTF-8 size (Threads API).
- TikTok caption: 2,200 UTF-16 units is the limit TikTok documents for posting through its API; its help pages do not state the in-app limit.
See Social Media Character Limits for every platform.
About the preview
The preview imitates a phone feed: the caption is cut after the number of lines you choose and followed by “… more”. Instagram does not publish where it cuts captions — it depends on the screen width, the font and your line breaks — so treat the fold as an approximation and check the post in the app.
Limitations
- Instagram, Threads and TikTok do not document how they handle blank lines and spaces, and app updates can change it. The spacer method works because the line is no longer empty, not because of a documented rule.
- The “… more” fold in the preview is approximate.
- Screen readers may announce some spacers, so use them only on the lines where spacing matters.
- Leading spaces used to indent or centre lines are kept, but the apps may still remove them.

Frequently asked questions
Why do my line breaks disappear on Instagram?
Instagram does not publish how it tidies captions, but empty lines and spaces at the ends of lines can be lost when a caption is posted. Filling each empty line with a character that is not a space — U+2800 here — keeps the line, because it is no longer empty.
Is the spacer really invisible?
U+2800 is drawn as a blank in most fonts, so it looks like an empty line. It is still a character: it counts towards the caption limit and can be selected and copied.
Does this work for TikTok and Threads?
Yes — the same text works in any app, and you can switch the counters to a Threads post or a TikTok caption. Check the post after publishing, because each app renders text a little differently.
Will hiding hashtags under dots still count them?
Yes. Hashtags below the dots are part of the caption and count towards the 5-hashtag limit on Instagram; the dots only move them below the “… more” fold.
Is my caption uploaded?
No. All formatting happens in your browser and nothing is sent or stored. The page also works offline once it has loaded.
