About the Indonesia Overtime (Upah Lembur) Calculator

Work out overtime pay in Indonesia (upah kerja lembur) the way Government Regulation (PP) 35/2021 sets it. The hourly wage is 1/173 of the monthly wage. On a working day the first overtime hour is paid 1,5× the hourly wage and every later hour 2×; on a rest day or public holiday the hours climb a ladder from 2× to 3× and 4×, by the 5- or 6-day week the company works.

Enter the pay (monthly, daily or by output) and a line for each kind of overtime day: its hours and how many such days. The calculator applies the 75% rule for wages with allowances that vary, turns a daily wage into a month, works out each day on its ladder and checks the legal limits. Nothing you type leaves your browser. Without a pass the page shows a free preview of your own result: the overtime pay in full and the first rows of the table, while every other figure stays hidden until you unlock it with a Pro pass.

    How to use it

    1. Choose the working week: 5 days of 8 hours, or 6 days of 7 hours (40 hours either way).
    2. Choose how the worker is paid and enter the pay: the basic wage and fixed allowances (and any allowances that vary), the daily wage, or the average monthly pay of the last 12 months.
    3. Add a line for each kind of overtime day: a working day, a rest day or public holiday, or a public holiday on the shortest working day; enter the overtime hours that day and how many such days.
    4. Read the pay line by line with the working and the total. With a Pro pass, or after unlocking this result, copy the summary or download it as a CSV file; without one the page shows a free preview.

    Examples

Rp 5.190.000 a month, 2 hours of overtime on 4 working days
    Result
    Hourly wage Rp 5.190.000 ÷ 173 = Rp 30.000,00; a day is 1 h at 1,5× + 1 h at 2× = 3,5 hourly wages, Rp 105.000; 4 days Rp 420.000.
9 hours on a rest day, 6-day week
    Result
    7 h at 2× + 1 h at 3× + 1 h at 4× = 21 hourly wages: Rp 630.000.
10 hours on a public holiday, 5-day week
    Result
    8 h at 2× + 1 h at 3× + 1 h at 4× = 23 hourly wages: Rp 690.000.
A basic wage of Rp 3.000.000 and Rp 2.000.000 of allowances that vary
    Result
The base is 75% of Rp 5.000.000, Rp 3.750.000: 3 hours on 6 working days pay Rp 715.318.
A daily wage of Rp 200.000, 6-day week
    Result
    A month is Rp 200.000 × 25 = Rp 5.000.000; 2 hours on 5 working days pay Rp 505.780.

    The hourly wage

Overtime pay is worked out on the monthly wage; the hourly wage is 1/173 of it (PP 35/2021 art. 32). When the wage is the basic wage and fixed allowances, all of it counts. When it also has allowances that vary and the basic wage with fixed allowances is less than 75% of the whole wage, the base is 75% of the whole wage.

A daily wage counts 25 times for a month in a 6-day week and 21 times in a 5-day week; output pay counts as the average of the last 12 months, and never less than the area’s minimum wage (art. 33).

The rates of each kind of day

    • A working day: the first overtime hour at 1,5× the hourly wage, each later hour at 2× (art. 31(1)).
    • A rest day or public holiday, 6-day week: hours 1–7 at 2×, the 8th at 3×, the 9th to 11th at 4×; on a public holiday that falls on the shortest working day, hours 1–5 at 2×, the 6th at 3×, the 7th to 9th at 4× (art. 31(2)).
    • A rest day or public holiday, 5-day week: hours 1–8 at 2×, the 9th at 3×, the 10th to 12th at 4× (art. 31(3)).

Public holidays are the national holidays, the national days off and the holidays a local government sets (the elucidation of art. 26).

    Limits and the employer’s duties

Overtime may be at most 4 hours a day and 18 hours a week, not counting work on rest days and public holidays (art. 26; the Manpower Law art. 78 as amended), and needs an order from the employer and the worker’s agreement, in writing or by digital means, with a list of who worked overtime and for how long (art. 28). The employer must pay the overtime, give enough rest and, after 4 hours of overtime or more, food and drink of at least 1.400 kilocalories, which may not be replaced by money (art. 29).

Workers whose job is to think, plan, carry out or control the running of the company, whose working hours cannot be limited and who earn more, get no overtime pay when the contract, company regulation or collective agreement says so; otherwise the employer pays it (art. 27).

    Limitations

    • Follows PP 35/2021 for companies; some sectors work other hours set by the Minister, and civil servants have rules of their own.
    • The weekly limit of 18 hours cannot be checked from day counts: keep it in mind when you enter several days.
    • Each line’s pay is rounded to the whole rupiah; payroll software may round the hourly wage first and differ by a rupiah.
    • Income tax (PPh 21) and BPJS contributions on overtime pay are not worked out.
    • MySmartCoPilot is not a law firm: the result is an estimate from the regulation, not legal advice.

    Frequently asked questions

What do I get without a pass?

Without a pass, Indonesia Overtime (Upah Lembur) Calculator shows the overtime pay in full, with the first rows of the pay table and the hour rates of each kind of day; every other figure is hidden. Until you unlock it, the result can’t be downloaded or copied. A Pro, Premium or Ultimate pass, a one-time payment unless you choose automatic renewal, unlocks the full result. The pricing page lists the passes and their prices.

How is overtime calculated in Indonesia?

Divide the monthly wage by 173 for the hourly wage. On a working day pay the first hour at 1,5× and the rest at 2×: 2 hours at Rp 5.190.000 a month are Rp 105.000.

What is the overtime rate on a public holiday?

2× for the first 8 hours in a 5-day week (7 in a 6-day week), 3× for the next hour and 4× for the hours after it, up to the 12th (the 11th in a 6-day week).

    Why 1/173?

PP 35/2021 art. 32 fixes the hourly wage for overtime as 1/173 of the monthly wage, for the 5-day and the 6-day week alike.

How many overtime hours are allowed?

At most 4 hours a day and 18 hours a week; work on rest days and public holidays does not count towards these limits.

    Do managers get overtime pay?

Not when their job is to think, plan, carry out or control the running of the company, their hours cannot be limited, they earn more and the contract or company rules say so. Without such a clause, they are paid overtime.
