About the Germany Minimum Wage & Minijob Hours Calculator
Germany's statutory minimum wage (Mindestlohn) is €13,90 an hour, gross, for almost every employee (Minimum Wage Act, MiLoV5). A Minijob (geringfügig entlohnte Beschäftigung) may pay €603 a month on average, €7.236 a year: the limit is ten hours a week at the minimum wage (§ 8(1a) SGB IV), so at the minimum wage a Minijob allows 43,38 hours a month. The Fifth Minimum Wage Adjustment Regulation has already set the next step, €14,60 an hour with a Minijob limit of €633: choose the year in the calculator.
Enter the hourly wage the job pays to see the most hours a month, a week and a year that stay inside the Minijob limit, the Midijob range above it and, under Check a pay, whether a monthly pay for the hours worked reaches the minimum wage. Nothing you type leaves your browser.
Without a pass, the free preview shows the most hours a month in a Minijob in full, with the minimum wage, the Minijob limit and the first rows of each table; a Pro pass unlocks every figure: the hours a week and a year, the unforeseen months and the Midijob range at your wage, the whole pay check with what is missing a month, and the summary to copy.
How to use it
- Choose the year: the calculator starts with the one in force today.
- Enter the hourly wage the job pays (it starts at the minimum wage).
- Read the most hours a month, a week and a year inside the Minijob limit, and the pay and hours of the Midijob range.
- To check a pay, open Check a pay and enter the gross pay for a month and the hours worked a month or a week; then copy the summary if you need it — with a pass, or after unlocking this result.
Examples
43,38 hours a month, 10,01 hours a week, 520,57 hours a year under the €603 limit.
36 hours a month or 432 hours a year.
The Minijob-Zentrale gives the same yearly figure for this wage.
€15,00 an hour: at least the minimum wage.
€12,50 an hour: below the minimum wage; the hours need €556,00 a month.
43,33 hours a month at €13,92 an hour.
A month counts as 13 ÷ 3 weeks, as § 8(1a) SGB IV does.
The rules
- Minimum wage: every employee is entitled to at least the minimum wage for each hour worked (§ 1 MiLoG); the amount is set by regulation on the proposal of the Minimum Wage Commission (BMAS).
- Minijob limit: the minimum wage × 130 ÷ 3, rounded up to full euros (§ 8(1a) SGB IV); the German Pension Insurance publishes it. It is an average: one month can be higher if another is lower, as long as the year stays within twelve times the limit; extreme swings, such as two months of full-time work, do not count as a Minijob (Minijob-Zentrale).
- Unforeseen months: in up to two calendar months within twelve months the pay may exceed the limit unexpectedly, by up to the limit again, without ending the Minijob (§ 8(1b) SGB IV).
- Midijob: pay regularly above the Minijob limit and up to €2.000 a month is in the transition range (§ 20(2) SGB IV): full social insurance, with reduced employee contributions (Minijob-Zentrale).
- Short-term jobs: limited by time instead, at most three months or 70 working days in a calendar year, 15 weeks or 90 working days on a farm (§ 8(1) No. 2 SGB IV).
Who the minimum wage does not cover
The Minimum Wage Act does not apply to people under 18 without a completed vocational training, to apprentices and volunteers, to some internships (compulsory ones, and orientation or study-related ones of up to three months), and for the first six months to people who were long-term unemployed right before the job (§ 22 MiLoG). Sector minimum wages can be higher than the statutory one.
Limitations
- Hours are rounded down to the hundredth so they never overstate what the limit allows. The limit is about pay: one-off payments such as a Christmas bonus or holiday pay count towards it, tax-free Sunday, holiday and night supplements do not (Minijob-Zentrale).
- The pay check compares a gross monthly pay with the minimum wage for the hours worked; it does not check sector minimum wages, working-time accounts or what counts as pay in a particular case.
- Under the Minimum Wage Act and SGB IV. A guide, not legal advice: for a dispute about pay, ask the minimum wage hotline of the BMAS, a union or a lawyer.

Frequently asked questions
What do I get without a pass?
Without a pass, Germany Minimum Wage & Minijob Hours Calculator shows the most hours a month in a Minijob in full, with the minimum wage, the Minijob limit and the first rows of each table; every other figure is hidden. Until you unlock it, the result can’t be copied. A Pro, Premium or Ultimate pass, a one-time payment that never renews, unlocks the full result. The pricing page lists the passes and their prices.
How many hours can I work in a Minijob?
As many as keep your pay within the Minijob limit: the limit divided by your hourly wage. At the minimum wage of €13,90 that is 43,38 hours a month, about ten hours a week; at a higher wage, fewer hours.
What is the Minijob limit?
€603 a month on average, €7.236 a year. It is ten hours a week at the minimum wage, so it rises whenever the minimum wage does.
Can I earn more than the limit in one month?
Yes, if another month is lower and the year stays within €7.236. An unforeseen excess, such as covering for a sick colleague, is allowed in up to two calendar months within twelve months, up to €1.206 in each.
What is a Midijob?
A job paying regularly more than the Minijob limit and up to €2.000 a month. It is fully insured in social insurance, but the employee's contributions start low and rise towards the normal share at €2.000.
Is my pay below the minimum wage?
Divide your gross pay for a month by the hours you worked in it. If the result is below the minimum wage, you are underpaid unless an exception of § 22 MiLoG applies to you. Check a pay tells you whether a pay reaches the minimum wage; with a Pro pass it also shows the hourly wage it works out at and what is missing a month.
