How this was calculated
About the Hourly to Salary Calculator
Enter what you earn for any pay period — an hour, a day, a week, two weeks, half a month, a month or a year — and see the same pay for every other period. The conversions use your own schedule: the hours you work in a normal week and the days they are spread over.
Add unpaid weeks (unpaid leave, or gaps between contracts) to see what you actually receive in a year, and paid holidays and leave to see what each hour you actually work is worth. For US federal employees, switch on the 2,087-hour rule: under 5 U.S.C. §5504(b) the hourly rate is the annual rate divided by 2,087, and the weekly and bi-weekly rates are 40 and 80 times that hourly rate, rounded to the cent.
How to use it
- Enter the pay amount, choose its period (per hour, day, week, two weeks, half month, month or year) and the currency.
- Set your hours per week and days per week — 40 hours over 5 days by default.
- Optionally open Time off and enter paid holidays and leave days, and any unpaid weeks in a year.
- For US federal pay, tick Use the US federal 2,087-hour year.
- Read the pay for every period in the table. Copy summary or Download CSV to keep it.
Examples
$200 a day · $1,000 a week · $2,000 every two weeks $2,166.67 twice a month · $4,333.33 a month · $52,000 a year
₹6,00,000 a year · ₹11,538.46 a week · ₹2,307.69 a day · ₹288.46 an hour
$31.15 an hour (65,000 ÷ 2,087) · $249.20 a day · $1,246.00 a week · $2,492.00 bi-weekly
$50,000 received in the year — an effective $24.04 an hour over a full-time year
How the conversions work
- Hourly rate = pay ÷ the hours in its period (a day = hours per week ÷ days per week).
- Annual pay = hourly rate × hours per week × 52.
- Monthly = annual ÷ 12, semi-monthly = annual ÷ 24, bi-weekly = weekly × 2.
- After unpaid time = annual pay × (52 − unpaid weeks) ÷ 52; the other periods are then averages over the year.
- Pay per hour worked = pay received in the year ÷ the hours actually worked (paid hours minus paid days off).
A year is 52 weeks and a day (two in a leap year), so now and then a year has 27 bi-weekly paydays or 53 weekly ones. Employers handle that differently: some spread the same annual salary over the extra payday, others pay the usual amount each time.
Bi-weekly or semi-monthly?
Bi-weekly means every two weeks — 26 paychecks in most years. Semi-monthly means twice a month, often on the 15th and the last day — 24 paychecks. On $52,000 a year a bi-weekly paycheck is $2,000 and a semi-monthly one is $2,166.67: the annual total is the same, but bi-weekly pay comes in smaller, more frequent amounts.
The US federal 2,087-hour rule
Section 5504(b) of title 5 of the US Code sets how federal employees’ annual rates of basic pay are converted: the hourly rate is the annual rate ÷ 2,087, the daily rate is the hourly rate × the daily hours of service, the weekly rate is the hourly rate × 40 and the bi-weekly rate × 80, each rounded to the nearest cent (half a cent and over rounds up).
2,087 is the average number of working hours in a year on a 40-hour week: 365.25 days × 5 ⁄ 7 × 8 hours ≈ 2,087. Dividing by 2,080 (52 × 40) would give a slightly higher hourly rate. Private employers are free to use their own method, so the option is off by default.
Paid time off and unpaid time
Paid holidays and leave do not change what you are paid, but you work fewer hours for it: with 20 paid days off, a $52,000 salary on 40 hours a week is $25 an hour on paper but $27.08 for each hour actually worked (52,000 ÷ 1,920). Unpaid weeks do the opposite — they reduce what you receive, so a $25 rate with two unpaid weeks brings in $50,000, the same as $24.04 for every hour of a full-time year. Freelancers can use this to set a rate that covers their gaps between projects.
Limitations
- Gross pay only: tax, social security, provident fund and other deductions are not taken off. Use the salary calculator for Indian take-home pay.
- Overtime premiums are not included — every hour is paid at the same rate. The overtime calculator works out time-and-a-half and double time.
- A year is taken as 52 weeks (or 2,087 hours in the federal option); the number of paydays in a particular calendar year can differ.
- Indian labour law uses its own divisors for some purposes (for example 26 days a month for gratuity), so a statutory amount may differ from these general conversions.

Frequently asked questions
How much is $20 an hour a year?
$41,600 at 40 hours a week for 52 weeks ($20 × 2,080 hours). With two unpaid weeks it is $40,000.
How do I convert an annual salary to an hourly rate?
Divide it by the hours you are paid for in a year — 52 × your weekly hours. $60,000 at 40 hours a week is $60,000 ÷ 2,080 = $28.85 an hour. US federal employees divide by 2,087 instead: $28.75.
How do I turn a monthly salary into a daily rate?
Multiply by 12 and divide by the working days in a year (52 × days per week). ₹26,000 a month on a 6-day week is ₹3,12,000 ÷ 312 = ₹1,000 a day.
Why do federal employees use 2,087 hours, not 2,080?
Because 5 U.S.C. §5504(b) says so: 2,087 is the average number of working hours in a year on a 40-hour week, once leap years are counted (365.25 × 5 ⁄ 7 × 8 ≈ 2,087), while 2,080 is exactly 52 weeks.
Is bi-weekly pay the same as semi-monthly pay?
No. Bi-weekly is every two weeks (26 paychecks a year); semi-monthly is twice a month (24 paychecks). The yearly total is the same, so each semi-monthly paycheck is larger.
Does the result include tax or overtime?
No. Every figure is gross pay at a single rate. Taxes and deductions depend on where you live, and overtime on the rules that apply to you.
