About the Malaysia Salary & Take-Home Pay Calculator (EPF, SOCSO, EIS, PCB)

See what lands in your account each month in Malaysia. Enter your basic salary, fixed allowances, overtime and any bonus, and the calculator takes off what a Malaysian payroll does: your EPF share by the wage bands of KWSP’s Third Schedule, your SOCSO share (the Invalidity Scheme and LINDUNG 24 Jam) and your EIS share from PERKESO’s own contribution schedules, and PCB — the monthly tax deduction — with LHDN’s computerised formula, month by month, including the bonus month.

Beside your payslip it shows what your employer pays on top (EPF, SOCSO and EIS) and what your pay and those contributions cost the employer, a twelve-month table, and an estimate of your income tax for the year, so you can see whether the PCB covers it. Nothing you type leaves your browser.

Without a pass, the free preview shows your take-home pay in full, with the first rows of each table; a Pro pass unlocks every figure, the whole year month by month, the summary to copy and the CSV.

How to use it

  1. Enter your monthly basic salary, any fixed allowances that are taxable, and your usual overtime. Leave out tax-exempt allowances, such as petrol or travel allowances for work within LHDN’s limits.
  2. Add a bonus for the year, in ringgit or as months of basic salary, and choose the month it is paid.
  3. Choose your citizenship and enter your age: rates change at 60, EPF stops at 75, and non-Malaysian employees pay 2% EPF and no EIS. Local employees say whether they take part in LINDUNG 24 Jam.
  4. Under “PCB reliefs and zakat”, choose your family category for PCB, the children you claim for, and any Form TP1 claims or zakat deducted from your salary.
  5. Read your take-home pay, your payslip line by line, your employer’s cost, the month-by-month table and the income tax estimate. Copy the summary or download the twelve months as a CSV file — with a pass, or after unlocking this result.

Examples

RM5,000 a month, single Malaysian aged 30
Result
EPF RM550.00 · SOCSO RM61.90 · EIS RM9.90 · PCB RM110.00 · take-home RM4,268.20. The employer adds EPF RM650.00, SOCSO RM86.65 and EIS RM9.90: cost RM5,746.55.

PCB in January: P = (5,000 − 550) + (5,000 − 313.63) × 11 − 9,000 = RM47,000.07; [(47,000.07 − 35,000) × 6% + 600] ÷ 12 = RM110.00. The year’s tax with the RM350 SOCSO and EIS relief comes to RM1,299.00, a little under the PCB of RM1,320.00.

The same salary and a two-month bonus in December
Result
December: gross RM15,000.00, EPF RM1,650.00 (the employer pays 13% of the month’s wages, RM1,950.00), PCB RM1,060.00, take-home RM12,218.20. No SOCSO or EIS is charged on the bonus.

The PCB on the bonus is the extra tax it adds to the year (LHDN’s additional-remuneration steps): RM950.00 on top of the usual RM110.00.

RM8,000 a month, married, spouse not working, two children under 18
Result
PCB RM387.50 a month (category 2: RM4,000 spouse relief, RM2,000 a child) · take-home RM6,646.20.
A non-Malaysian worker on RM3,000 a month
Result
EPF 2% each: RM60.00 from you, RM60.00 from the employer · SOCSO RM36.90 (LINDUNG 24 Jam is compulsory) · no EIS · PCB RM0.00 as a tax resident · take-home RM2,903.10.
A Malaysian aged 61 on RM4,000 a month
Result
No EPF from you; the employer pays RM160.00 (4%). SOCSO Second Category: the employer pays RM49.40 for Employment Injury, you pay RM29.65 for LINDUNG 24 Jam. No EIS. Take-home RM3,900.35.

EPF: the Third Schedule’s wage bands

Employees below 60 who are Malaysian citizens, permanent residents or non-Malaysians who joined EPF before 1 August 1998 pay 11%; the employer pays 13% on monthly wages of RM5,000 and below and 12% above. From 60, Malaysians pay nothing and the employer 4%; permanent residents pay 5.5% and the employer 6.5% or 6%. Non-Malaysian employees with a work pass pay 2% and their employer 2% (KWSP).

Employers may not simply multiply by the percentage. The shares come from the wage bands of the Third Schedule — RM20 wide up to RM5,000 and RM100 wide up to RM20,000, each share worked out on the top of the band and rounded up to the ringgit — so RM3,250 gives RM359 and RM424, not RM357.50 and RM422.50. Above RM20,000 the exact percentages apply and the total is rounded up to the next ringgit. For non-Malaysians each 2% share is rounded up to the next ringgit (KWSP’s guide for non-Malaysian employees). EPF counts your salary, allowances, commission and bonus, but not overtime. A bonus that lifts a month above RM5,000 for someone normally paid RM5,000 or less keeps the employer at 13%.

SOCSO, LINDUNG 24 Jam and EIS

SOCSO has two employee parts. The Invalidity Scheme costs you 0.5% of your monthly wages and your employer pays 1.75% (Employment Injury and Invalidity) while you are below 60; from 60, or if you first contribute at 55 or later, only the employer pays 1.25% for Employment Injury (PERKESO). LINDUNG 24 Jam, the non-employment injury scheme, covers accidents outside work: you pay it alone, 0.75% in its first phase, rising later to 1% and then 1.25%. It is compulsory for foreign workers. Local employees are in unless they opted out; a new employee can opt out before the first contribution, and someone who stays in remains covered (PERKESO, questions and answers).

EIS costs 0.2% from you and 0.2% from your employer for Malaysian citizens and permanent residents aged 18 to 59; it does not cover foreign workers, and employees who reach 57 without having contributed before are exempt (Act 800). All three are read from PERKESO’s schedules by wage band, on wages up to RM6,000 a month (PERKESO), and none of them counts an annual bonus.

How PCB is worked out

PCB uses LHDN’s computerised formula (MTD specification): your chargeable income for the year is estimated as the pay so far less EPF, plus this month’s pay less EPF, plus the same pay for the months left less the rest of the RM4,000 EPF relief, less your reliefs (RM9,000 for yourself, RM4,000 for a spouse with no income, RM2,000 a child, and Form TP1 claims). The tax on that, less the PCB and zakat already paid, is spread over the remaining months: MTD = [(P − M) × R + B − (Z + X)] ÷ (n + 1).

Every figure is cut to two decimals, the result is rounded up to the next five sen, and a PCB under RM10 is not deducted. Zakat deducted from salary lowers the PCB ringgit for ringgit. A bonus is “additional remuneration”: its PCB is the year’s tax with the bonus less the PCB the year would have without it. Non-residents pay 30% of the month’s pay.

PCB and your income tax

PCB is an advance on your income tax for the Year of Assessment. If you work for the same employer for the whole year, PCB is deducted every month and you and your spouse do not elect joint assessment, LHDN lets you treat the PCB as your final tax and not file a return (LHDN); otherwise your return settles the difference. The estimate under the results also counts the SOCSO and EIS relief (up to RM350), which PCB leaves out unless you claim it on Form TP1 (Form TP1), so it is often a little below the PCB; the RM400 rebate where chargeable income is RM35,000 or less is in both. For every relief, use the Malaysia income tax calculator; to check one month’s PCB with your year-to-date figures, the PCB calculator.

Limitations

  • For private-sector employees. Pensionable public servants, domestic workers and the self-employed have their own rules.
  • One employer for the whole year at the same pay every month, with at most one bonus. If you changed jobs this year or your pay changes, use the PCB calculator with your year-to-date figures (Form TP3).
  • Contributions above the statutory rates (voluntary EPF), benefits in kind and living accommodation, and commission or arrears paid now and then are not included.
  • The year uses today’s contribution rates for all twelve months, with the current PCB tables and tax rates.
  • EPF for non-Malaysian employees is worked out on at least the minimum wage; the calculator uses the salary you enter.
  • KWSP’s own examples round EPF for non-Malaysian employees in two ways: its guide for non-Malaysian employees rounds each 2% share up to the ringgit, as here, while the example on its contribution page rounds only the total, which can come to RM1 less.
  • The cost to the employer counts EPF, SOCSO and EIS only — not the HRD Corp training levy some employers pay, insurance or other benefits.
  • The tax estimate covers this job and the reliefs you enter; other income, joint assessment and rebates other than zakat are not included.

Frequently asked questions

What do I get without a pass?

Without a pass, Malaysia Salary & Take-Home Pay Calculator (EPF, SOCSO, EIS, PCB) shows your take-home pay a month in full, with the first rows of your payslip, your employer’s cost and the tax estimate; every other figure is hidden. Until you unlock it, the result can’t be downloaded or copied. A Pro, Premium or Ultimate pass, a one-time payment that never renews, unlocks the full result. The pricing page lists the passes and their prices.

How much EPF is deducted from a RM5,000 salary?

RM550.00 from you (11%) and RM650.00 from your employer (13%, since the salary is RM5,000 or less), RM1,200.00 in all. At RM5,000.01 or more the employer’s rate drops to 12% and the wage bands become RM100 wide.

What is LINDUNG 24 Jam on my payslip?

PERKESO’s non-employment injury scheme: cover for accidents outside working hours, paid by you alone through payroll — 0.75% of monthly wages up to RM6,000 in its first phase. It is compulsory for foreign workers. Local employees are in unless they opted out with PERKESO; a new employee can opt out before the first contribution. Your employer pays nothing extra for it.

Are SOCSO and EIS charged on my bonus?

No. The wages that SOCSO, LINDUNG 24 Jam and EIS are worked out on leave out annual bonuses, travel allowances and gratuities, but they do include overtime. EPF is the other way round: it counts the bonus and leaves out overtime.

Why is my PCB higher in the bonus month?

LHDN’s formula taxes the whole of the extra tax the bonus adds to your year in the month it is paid, instead of spreading it over the year. The PCB for the rest of the year stays about the same.

Why is the tax estimate lower than my PCB for the year?

The monthly formula only counts the reliefs your employer knows about. The SOCSO and EIS relief (up to RM350), and any other relief you claim at the end of the year, lower the actual tax. Claim them month by month on Form TP1 and the PCB follows.

Is my salary sent anywhere?

No. Everything is calculated in your browser; nothing you enter is uploaded or stored on a server.
