      About the Time Zone Converter

Choose a date, a time and a city, and see the same moment in as many other cities as you like — with each place’s UTC offset, its time-zone abbreviation and whether it is already the next day there. The meeting planner lays the whole day out hour by hour across all the cities, shading working hours, evenings and nights so a time that suits everyone stands out.

Daylight-saving changes are handled by the IANA time zone database built into your browser, which is the same data operating systems use. If you pick a time that is skipped or repeated when clocks change, the tool tells you and explains what it did. Share the plan with a link that contains only the zone names and the time.

      How to use it

      1. Set the date and time, then choose the time zone they are in — search by city, country or abbreviation (for example Mumbai, Germany or PST). Now fills in the current time and keeps it live.
      2. Add the cities you want to compare with Add a city. Each row shows the local time, date, UTC offset and the difference from your time.
      3. Use the meeting planner to scan all 24 hours. Green cells are inside the working hours you set; select a row to make it the time above.
      4. Press Copy times to paste a summary into an email or chat, or Copy link to share the same view.

India keeps the same time all year, so meetings with the US and Europe move by an hour in Indian time twice a year.

      Common uses

      • Scheduling calls between India and teams or clients in the US, UK, Europe, the Gulf or Australia.
      • Checking when a webinar, exam slot, product launch or sports event starts in your time.
      • Planning travel across time zones and calling family abroad at a sensible hour.

      Daylight saving time and IST

India Standard Time is UTC+05:30 all year — India does not use daylight saving time. Many countries do, so the gap between India and them changes twice a year:

      • United States and Canada: clocks go forward on the second Sunday in March and back on the first Sunday in November (8 March and 1 November in 2026).
      • UK and European Union: clocks go forward on the last Sunday in March and back on the last Sunday in October (29 March and 25 October in 2026).
      • Southern hemisphere places such as Sydney and Auckland change in the opposite direction, in April and September/October.

For two or three weeks each March and one week around the end of October the US and Europe are out of step with each other, so the usual gap between them shrinks by an hour. The converter always uses the rules for the exact date you choose.

Times that are skipped or happen twice

When clocks go forward, an hour of local time never happens — for example 2:30 am in New York on 8 March 2026. If you enter such a time, the converter moves it forward by the gap (to 3:30 am) and tells you. When clocks go back, an hour happens twice — 1:30 am in New York on 1 November 2026 occurs first in EDT and again in EST. The first one is used by default and you can switch to the second with one click.

Why city names are safer than abbreviations

Time-zone abbreviations are not unique: IST means India Standard Time, Irish Standard Time and Israel Standard Time; CST is both US Central and China Standard Time; BST is British Summer Time and Bangladesh Standard Time. Abbreviations also change with the season (EST in winter, EDT in summer). The converter searches abbreviations for convenience but always shows the city and the numeric UTC offset, which are unambiguous.

      Limitations

      • Results depend on the time zone data in your browser. Countries occasionally change their rules at short notice; keep your browser updated for the latest changes.
      • The meeting planner uses the same working hours for every city and treats Saturday and Sunday as the weekend. Weekends and public holidays differ between countries.
      • Historical dates are converted with the rules recorded in the time zone database, which are less complete for dates before 1970.

      Privacy

All conversions run in your browser with its built-in time zone data, and nothing you enter is uploaded. The cities you pick, the clock format and the working hours are remembered in this browser’s local storage so the page opens the way you left it. Share links contain only the zone names and the date and time.

      Frequently asked questions

What is the time difference between India and the USA?

It depends on the US time zone and the season. New York is 9 h 30 min behind IST during US daylight saving time (March–November) and 10 h 30 min behind in winter. California is 12 h 30 min behind in summer and 13 h 30 min in winter.

Does India have daylight saving time?

No. IST is UTC+05:30 throughout the year, so the clock in India never changes. When other countries start or end daylight saving time, their difference from India changes instead.

Why does the link say Asia/Kolkata when I chose Mumbai?

All of India shares one time zone, whose official identifier in the IANA database is Asia/Kolkata. Links contain only zone identifiers and the time, so anyone opening the link sees the same times.

Is anything I enter sent to a server?

No. All conversions run in your browser using its built-in time zone data. The share link contains only the zone names and the date and time you picked.

What does “next day” or “previous day” mean next to a time?

It tells you that the local date in that city is different from the date you entered. For example, 10:00 am on Tuesday in India is still Monday evening in California.
