About Velvet Orchard: Hidden Bloom

Velvet Orchard: Hidden Bloom is a match puzzle set in a greenhouse at night, with the moon behind the roof glass, amber lamps burning and moths circling them. The tiles are velvet cameo medallions in a rope bezel, each with its own fruit in relief: cherries, apricot, pear, grapes, plum and fig. The picture, not only the colour, tells them apart.

Under some of the tiles an orchid seed sleeps. Clear a medallion over one and a bud shows; clear over the bud once more and the orchid opens. Every board asks you to open them all. Among the medallions sit bell jars over seedlings. They never match; you haul each one down to the floor of its column, where a brass chain lifts it away to the pulley and the seedling flowers on the way up. A clear beside or above a jar cracks it, and too many cracks break it.

Open two orchids with one move, or bring a jar home on the move that opens one, and the garden pays you its grace in extra points. Beds come in ten shapes, most with a round top like a window, and every board can be won: each is made together with a player that solves it first, and a hint is one press away. Settings offers more moves, or no limit at all, and a faint glow where the seeds sleep. Your stars and best scores stay in this browser and nothing is uploaded.

How to play

  1. Drag a medallion toward its neighbour, or tap one and then the other, to swap them. A swap has to line up three or more with the same fruit.
  2. Orchid seeds sleep under some tiles. Clear a medallion over one to show a bud, then clear over the bud again to open the orchid. Open every one to win.
  3. Bell jars do not match. Haul each one down to the floor of its column: a swap moves it a step, and clearing under it lets it fall.
  4. A clear beside or above a jar cracks it, once per move, and too many cracks break it. A clear right under it is safe.
  5. Open two orchids with one move, or bring a jar home on the move that opens one, to earn the garden's grace in extra points.
  6. The board has a limit on moves. Press H or the Hint button for a move that works, and P, Escape or Start to pause.

Controls

Frequently asked questions

How do the orchids open?

Clear a medallion over a hidden seed and a bud shows. Clear over the bud again and it opens into an orchid. Open them all to win the board.

What is the gardener's grace?

Extra points for opening two orchids with one move, and for bringing a bell jar home on the same move that opens an orchid.

Can every board be won?

Yes. Each board is made together with a solving player, so a way to win always exists. Ask for a hint, or choose more moves in Settings.

Does it save my progress?
