Velvet Orchard: Chainburst

Chain the fruit, keep the glass whole, and sew the sky with light.

Pro game

Drag a fruit toward a neighbour, or tap two fruits. Carry every pane of glass down to the floor.

Plush velvet fruit stitched with gold thread on a quilted cushion shaped like a hanging island, a cracked pane of glass among them, under a plum and rose dusk with a harvest moon and a lantern rising into the sky.

About Velvet Orchard: Chainburst

Velvet Orchard: Chainburst is a match puzzle set in an orchard at dusk, on islands that hang in a plum and rose sky. The fruit is plush velvet, stitched with gold thread and finished with a felt leaf and a brass button: apples, cherries, pears, greengages, damsons and figs, each with its own outline.

Among the fruit sit panes of glass in brass corners. They never match; your job is to carry each one down to the floor of its column. A swap moves a pane a step, and clearing fruit beneath it lets it fall, but a clear beside or above it cracks it, and a pane that has taken too many cracks breaks. Each pane that reaches the floor lifts off the island on a gold ribbon and becomes a lantern in the sky.

Every board also asks for a chain: a cascade of a certain depth, a certain number of times, and enough points. Keep the glass whole through a chain three deep or more and it scores half again, the soft touch. Islands come in ten shapes, most of them narrowing like the root ball of a tree, and every board can be won: each is made together with a player that solves it first, and a hint is one press away. How to play

  1. Drag a fruit toward its neighbour, or tap one and then the other, to swap them. A swap has to line up three or more of a kind.
  2. Panes of glass do not match. Carry each one down to the floor of its column; a swap moves it one step, and clearing fruit under it lets it fall.
  3. A clear beside or above a pane cracks it, once per move, and too many cracks break it. A clear right under it is safe.
  4. Win by setting off the chain the board asks for and reaching its score. A chain three deep or more that cracks no glass scores half again.
  5. The board has a limit on moves. Stars come from your score. Press H or the Hint button for a move that works.
  6. Press P, Escape or Start to pause. On a keyboard, move the cursor with the arrow keys or WASD and press Enter or Space to pick a fruit and then its neighbour.

Frequently asked questions

How do I keep the glass from breaking?

Clear fruit under a pane to let it fall, and avoid clears beside or above it. Each pane takes several cracks before it breaks, and a swap can carry it a step.

What is the soft touch?

A chain three deep or more that cracks no glass. It scores half again, so it is worth planning your cascades away from the panes.

Can every board be won?

Yes. Each board is made together with a solving player, so a way to win always exists. Ask for a hint, or choose more moves in Settings.

Does it save my progress?

Your stars, best scores and badges are saved in this browser only, and nothing is uploaded.
