About Tidal Mosaic: Chainburst

A night market has set up on a harbour quay laid in tiny tiles. Six kinds of sea-glass tessera glow in lead frames, each cut into facets of its own: a pinwheel of five, three wedges, a cross of four, a diamond within a diamond, a honeycomb of six and a star. Swap two neighbours to line up three or more, and they shatter into light.

The colour relay is the rule that makes this game itself. A combo only grows when the colour you clear is different from the last one you cleared, so repeating a colour starts your relay over. Clear teal, then coral, then sand, then wave, and every clear is worth more than the one before. The charms that drop in after a clear can start a relay of their own.

Each board names the relay it wants, how many times, and a score to reach. A relay of three colours sends a swell of tiles across the quay. A relay of four or more is the Mosaic Tide: a wave of tesserae in your relay’s colours sweeps the whole screen, and one medallion is laid in the quay mural along the foot of the screen. Clear a board and the whole mural shines.

The music is a warm quay-side groove on steel pan, kalimba and reed, with shaker and bongos joining as a relay climbs. Every board can be won: it is built together with a player that solves it first, and a hint is one press away. Settings offers more moves, or none at all, and a switch for the tide show. Stars and badges stay in this browser.

How to play

  1. Drag a tessera toward a neighbour, or tap one and then the next. Arrow keys and Enter or Space also work.
  2. Line up three or more of a colour to clear them. New tesserae drop in after every clear.
  3. The relay grows only when the colour changes from one clear to the next. Repeat a colour and the relay starts again.
  4. Meet the relay targets of the board, the length and the number of times, then reach the score.
  5. Press H or the Hint button for a move that works. Press P, Escape or Start to pause.

Controls

Frequently asked questions

What is a relay?

A relay is a run of clears where each colour is different from the one before it. Every link makes the next clear worth more. Clearing the same colour twice in a row starts the relay again at one.

What is the Mosaic Tide?

A relay of four colours or more sweeps a wave of coloured tesserae across the screen and lays one medallion in the quay mural. Clearing a board makes the finished mural shine. You can switch the show off in Settings.

Do cascades still matter?

Yes. Tesserae that drop in after a clear can clear again by themselves, and those links can be part of your relay too, as long as the colour changes.

Does it save my progress?

Your stars, best scores and badges are saved in this browser only, and nothing is uploaded.
