About Prism Lantern: Hidden Bloom

The Sun Rotunda is a round glasshouse on a sunny afternoon: a white iron dome with an open eye at its top, palms at the edges, butterflies in the light. Its floor is a stone turntable, and on it stand terrarium lanterns, clear glass tinted with colour, each with a little plant inside: a fern, a cactus, a cushion of moss, a sprout, a succulent and a clover. Each also has its own outline, so a lantern is never told only by its colour.

Under some floor tiles, physalis seeds are asleep. Clear a lantern over one and a seedling shows in the corner of whatever lantern stands there; clear over it once more and it blooms. The flower lights up like a paper lantern, floats up on a curving path and hangs from a rib of the dome, so the dome fills with light as you play.

Each floor also has three objectives, a number of lanterns of one colour each. Finish one and the whole floor turns a quarter, seeds and all, and the sunlight sweeps round like the shadow on a sundial. A seed that was high up is now near the floor’s edge, so plan which objective to finish when.

Twelve floors are planned by hand with their seeds placed by hand, from a potting room to a lily pond, a glass cross and the grand rotunda; later floors return asking for more, and today’s floor changes every day. Every floor can be won, and a hint is one press away; Settings offers more moves, no limit, or a quieter room without birdsong.

Frequently asked questions

Where are the seeds?

Under the floor tiles. A sleeping seed cannot be seen until a lantern over it is cleared; then a seedling mark shows on the lantern standing there. Clear over it once more and it blooms.

Why did the whole floor turn?

You finished one of the floor’s three objectives. Each one turns the floor a quarter clockwise, and the seeds turn with it, so lanterns fall toward a new edge.

Can every floor be won?

Yes. Each floor is solved by a computer player before you see it, so a way to win always exists. Use the Hint button, or choose more moves in Settings.
