About the Tally Counter (Jap / Tasbih Counter)
A counter you can tap without looking: the whole dark panel is one big button, so a thumb, a mouse click or the Space bar adds one. Count down with −, take back a slip with Undo, and Reset when you are done — the count before the reset goes into the history, so it is never lost.
Set a target to count in rounds: with 108 the counter shows the beads of the current round of a mala and how many rounds are done, and with 33 it does the same for a tasbih. It beeps (and vibrates, on phones that allow it) at the end of each round and keeps going. Add as many named counters as you need — Team A and Team B, entries and exits, or one counter per mantra — each with its own step and target. Everything is saved in your browser, works offline and can fill the screen.
How to use it
- Tap the big counter (or press Space, Enter or ↑) to count up; press Count down (or ↓) to take one off.
- Under This counter, give it a name, a step (count by 2, 5 …) and a target such as 108 (mala) or 33 (tasbih) — or any other number.
- Add more counters under All counters and count each with its own + and − buttons; choose which one the big counter shows.
- Made a mistake? Press Undo (or U) — it steps back through up to 100 recent actions since you opened the page, including a reset or a deleted counter.
- Press Reset to start again at 0; the old count, the time and the rounds are kept under History, which you can copy or download as CSV.

Common uses
- Japa / naam jap with a 108-bead mala, or tasbih and dhikr in rounds of 33.
- Keeping score in card, board and court games.
- Counting people at a door, cars at a junction, birds, laps or stock on a shelf.
- Counting rows in knitting or reps in a workout.
How rounds are counted
With a target T, the counter keeps the total and works out the rest from it: rounds done = total ÷ T rounded down, and the count in the current round = ((total − 1) mod T) + 1. So with T = 108 the 108th tap shows 108 of 108 — round 1 complete, the 109th shows 1 of round 2, and a total of 1,080 is exactly 10 rounds. Counting down moves back through the rounds the same way. A step larger than the target can complete several rounds in one tap; the history then notes the round reached.
Keyboard, sound and full screen
- Space, Enter, ↑ or + count up; ↓ or − count down; U undoes; R resets; N shows the next counter. Shortcuts are ignored while you type in a box.
- Optional feedback: a short vibration on every count and at the end of a round (on devices that allow websites to vibrate), a click sound per count, and a beep per round. Sound starts after your first tap, as browsers require.
- Full screen shows just the counter and its buttons, and Keep the screen on stops the phone from dimming during a long session, where the browser supports it.
Limitations
- Counters, settings and history are saved in this browser only; another browser or device has its own. Clearing site data removes them — copy or download the history first.
- Vibration works only where the browser lets websites use it (for example Chrome on Android); iPhones and iPads do not.
- Up to 50 counters, steps of up to 1,000 and the last 500 history entries.
Privacy
Everything happens in your browser. Your counters and history are stored in this browser only and are never uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
How do I count a mala of 108?
Choose 108 (mala) as the target and tap once per bead. The counter shows the bead number in the current round, the rounds completed and the total, and beeps after the 108th bead.
Does the counter stop at the target?
No. It marks the round as complete and carries on into the next round, so you can do several malas or tasbih rounds in one go. The total keeps growing.
Will I lose my count if I close the page?
No. The counters are saved in your browser as you count and are there when you come back on the same device and browser.
Can I undo a wrong tap or a reset?
Yes. Undo (or the U key) steps back through your recent actions — taps, resets and deleted counters.
Can I use it as a score keeper?
Yes. Add a counter for each player or team under All counters and use their + and − buttons. Set Count by for games that score in 2s or 5s, and tick Allow counts below zero if scores can go negative.
Does it work offline?
Yes, once the page has loaded. Counting, saving and the history all happen in your browser.
