About the PNG to JPG Converter

Convert PNG images to JPG in your browser — useful when a site only accepts JPG, or when a PNG photo or screenshot is far bigger than it needs to be. Pick the JPG quality, and the colour that should appear where the PNG was transparent (JPG cannot store transparency).

Each file shows its size before and after, and you can compare the result with the original side by side before downloading. Nothing is uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Drop PNG files onto the box, click Choose images, or paste a screenshot with Ctrl/⌘ + V.
  2. Set the Quality (90 keeps photos visually unchanged; lower values make smaller files).
  3. Choose a Background colour for transparent areas — white, black or any colour.
  4. Compare, then download each JPG or Download all as a ZIP.

Examples

Logo with a transparent background
Input
logo.png (transparent) · Background white · Quality 90
Result
logo.jpg on a solid white background.

If you need to keep the transparency, use PNG or WebP instead.

Half-transparent pixels
Input
A black pixel at 50% opacity · Background white
Result
Mid-grey (127, 127, 127) — partially transparent pixels are blended with the background colour, so soft edges stay smooth.

Common uses

  • Uploading screenshots or graphics to forms and sites that accept only JPG.
  • Shrinking PNG photos (exported from phones or editors) to a fraction of their size.
  • Putting transparent logos and stickers on a white or brand-colour background for documents and print.
  • Batch-converting design exports before emailing them.

What happens to transparency?

JPG has no alpha channel, so every pixel must be solid. Fully transparent areas become the background colour you choose; partially transparent pixels (anti-aliased edges, shadows) are blended with it, exactly as if the PNG were placed on a sheet of that colour. Choose the colour of the page or document the image will sit on and the edges look seamless.

When is JPG the right choice?

JPG is excellent for photographs and realistic images: at quality 80–90 it is usually many times smaller than PNG with no visible difference. For screenshots with small text, line art and logos, JPG can add faint smudges around sharp edges — compare at Actual pixels, raise the quality, or keep those images as PNG. For the smallest files with transparency, try WebP.

Limitations

  • Images up to 50 megapixels and 200 MB each, up to 100 per batch.
  • Animated PNGs (APNG) are converted to their first frame.
  • Metadata is not copied, and colours are converted to sRGB.
  • JPG compression is lossy — keep the original PNG if you may need it again.

Frequently asked questions

Why did my transparent background turn white?

JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the Background colour — white by default. Pick another colour, or keep the image as PNG or WebP if you need transparency.

What quality should I choose?

90 is a safe default that looks the same as the PNG. For photos, 75–85 gives much smaller files that still look good; for screenshots with text, stay at 90 or above.

Are my images uploaded?

No. The conversion happens in your browser and works offline once the page has loaded.

Will the JPG be smaller than the PNG?

Almost always for photos. Simple graphics with few colours can already be very small as PNG; the list shows the exact change for every file so you can decide.
