WebP to JPG Converter
Turn WebP images — even animated ones — into JPG files that every app can open.

About the WebP to JPG Converter
Convert WebP images to JPG without uploading them. JPG opens in every photo viewer, editor, office suite, print kiosk and upload form, so it is the safest format to send to other people or to systems that reject WebP. Convert one file or many at once, choose the JPG quality, and pick the colour that fills transparent areas — JPG cannot store transparency.
Animated WebP files work too: each one gets a frame slider, so you can save exactly the frame you want. Frames are put together the way the WebP specification describes (frame offsets, blending and disposal), so the JPG matches what a browser shows at that moment.
How to use it
- Drop WebP files onto the box or click Choose WebP images — you can select many files at once.
- Set the Quality (90 keeps photos visually unchanged) and the Colour behind transparent areas.
- For an animated WebP, drag the Frame slider on that file (or use ‹ and ›) to choose the frame to save.
- Download each JPG, or Download all as a ZIP.
Examples
sneaker.webp · 1200 × 1200 · Quality 90
sneaker.jpg, same size, ready for a marketplace listing, an email or a print order.
sticker.webp (transparent) · background #FFFFFF
sticker.jpg on white. Soft, partly transparent edges are blended with the background colour, so they stay smooth.
To keep the transparency, use WebP to PNG instead.
reaction.webp · 24 frames · Frame 12
reaction-frame-12.jpg — the 12th frame, exactly as the animation displays it.
Common uses
- Opening images saved from websites in apps that only understand JPG, such as older photo viewers, editors and office software.
- Uploading pictures to government, bank, exam or job portals that accept only JPG/JPEG.
- Sending product and listing photos to marketplaces, print shops and clients.
- Saving a still frame from an animated WebP sticker or meme.
Why do websites give me WebP files?
WebP is an image format created by Google and documented by the IETF in RFC 9649. One format covers lossy and lossless compression, transparency and animation, and Google reports that lossy WebP files are 25–34% smaller than comparable JPEGs (WebP documentation). Smaller images load faster, so many sites and image CDNs send WebP to every browser that supports it — sometimes even when the address ends in .jpg, because the server looks at the formats your browser says it accepts and picks the smallest. Save such an image and you get a WebP file.
An app cannot open a WebP file — what are the options?
- Convert it to JPG here, or to PNG if it has transparency. Every app opens JPG.
- Update the app. Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari open WebP, and so does Preview on macOS 11 Big Sur and later. On Windows, Microsoft’s free WebP Image Extensions (Microsoft Store) let Photos and File Explorer show WebP files.
- Check what an upload form accepts. Forms usually list the formats (often JPG or PNG) and a maximum file size. Convert to JPG here and, if the file is still too large, shrink it with the Image Compressor.
Quality, transparency and animation
- Quality: 90 looks identical to the WebP for photos; 75–85 gives smaller files. A WebP is usually already compressed, so values near 100 only make the JPG bigger — they cannot bring back detail.
- Transparency: JPG has no alpha channel. Fully transparent areas become the colour you choose; partly transparent pixels are blended with it, as if the image were printed on paper of that colour.
- Animation: JPG holds one image, so you choose a frame. Each frame is built from the frames before it, as the WebP format defines, so what you save matches the animation at that point.
Limitations
- Up to 100 files per batch, each up to 200 MB and 50 megapixels.
- EXIF and XMP metadata are not copied. An embedded colour profile is applied, so colours are converted to standard sRGB.
- JPG cannot store transparency or animation; use WebP to PNG for transparent images.
- Choosing a late frame of a long animation takes longer, because every earlier frame has to be decoded to build it.

Frequently asked questions
Does converting WebP to JPG lose quality?
A little, because JPG is also lossy and the image is compressed again. At quality 90 the difference is not visible in normal viewing. If you need every pixel exactly, convert to PNG instead, which is lossless.
Can an animated WebP become an animated JPG?
No — JPG cannot store animation. Choose the frame you want with the frame slider and save that one; keep the WebP if you need the animation.
Why is the JPG bigger than the WebP?
WebP compresses better than JPG, so the same picture usually takes more bytes as a JPG. That is normal. Lower the quality to 80–85 if file size matters.
What happens to a transparent background?
It is filled with the Colour behind transparent areas — white unless you choose another colour. Pick the colour of the page or document the image will sit on and the edges blend in.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Decoding and encoding happen in your browser, and the converter keeps working offline once the page has loaded.
