About the Packing Slip Generator

A packing slip goes inside the parcel and tells the customer — and anyone checking the shipment — what is in it. This generator makes one from your order: order, invoice and tracking numbers, the ship-to address, each item with its SKU, how many were ordered and shipped and how many follow later, optional prices, and for multi-box shipments what each box holds with its size and weight.

A Code 128 barcode or a QR code of the order number (or the tracking number, or any link) makes the parcel quick to scan at the warehouse. Print it on A4, US Letter or a 4 × 6 in thermal label, or add one slip per box. Everything stays in your browser.

How to use it

  1. Choose Packing slip (one parcel) or Packing list (a shipment of several boxes), and the paper: A4, Letter or 4 × 6 in.
  2. Enter the order number and dates, your business once (kept for next time) and the customer’s ship-to address.
  3. Add the items with SKU and quantities. Leave “Shipped” empty when the whole quantity goes; enter less to show the rest as to follow.
  4. Add a row per box with its size and weights, then pick the box for each item. Tick one slip per box to put a contents list in every box.
  5. Choose the barcode, check the preview, then Download PDF (exact paper size) or Print. New slip counts the order number up.

Common uses

  • Online shops putting a packing slip in every order, on A4 or a 4 × 6 thermal printer.
  • Warehouses packing multi-carton shipments with a contents list per box.
  • Exporters preparing a packing list to go with the commercial invoice.
  • Partial shipments where some items follow later.

Packing slip or packing list?

Both list what is shipped. A packing slip usually travels inside one parcel and is written for the customer. A packing list covers a whole shipment, often several cartons or pallets, and is used by the carrier, the warehouse and customs alongside the commercial invoice — so it shows the boxes, their dimensions and net and gross weights. Pick the heading that fits; the content is the same.

Barcodes: Code 128 or QR

Code 128 (ISO/IEC 15417) is the barcode most warehouse and courier scanners read. It holds letters, digits and keyboard symbols; the tool switches to its compact digit mode for runs of numbers automatically, keeps the 10-module quiet zones the standard asks for, and draws bars at up to 0.53 mm each. The encoder is tested by decoding its barcodes with an independent reader (ZXing), which must read back exactly the text that was encoded.

A QR code holds more — a link to the order page, a returns form — and phone cameras read it. Keep printed codes at 100% scale: shrinking a barcode to fit can make it unreadable.

Printing on a 4 × 6 thermal label printer

Choose 4 × 6 in label and use Download PDF: each page is exactly 4 × 6 inches (101.6 × 152.4 mm), so the printer driver does not need to scale it. If you print from the browser instead, pick the 4 × 6 paper size in the print dialog, set the scale to 100% and turn off headers and footers. A long order continues on a second label.

Limitations

  • This is a packing slip, not a carrier label or an invoice — make the address label with the shipping label generator; booked shipments still need the carrier’s own label.
  • Quantities and weights are what you enter; nothing is read from a store or a scale. Bulk slips from an order file are not available.
  • Code 128 cannot hold accented letters or other scripts — use a QR code for those.
  • The downloadable PDF draws Latin-script text (with ₹, €, £). For names in other scripts, use Print. The first PDF download needs a connection to fetch the PDF engine and fonts.

Frequently asked questions

What should a packing slip include?

The order number and date, the ship-to address, each item with its SKU or name and the quantity shipped, anything that will follow later, and your contact details for questions or returns. For several boxes, add what each box holds.

Should a packing slip show prices?

Usually not — gifts and orders received by someone else are better without them. Tick Show prices when the customer wants them; the slip then shows each line and the value of the goods shipped.

Will the barcode scan?

It should, when printed at full size on a decent printer: the tool follows the Code 128 standard with the required quiet zones, its encoder is tested by decoding sample barcodes with an independent reader, and it warns when a long text would make the bars too thin. Scan a test print before printing a batch.

Can I print a slip for each box?

Yes. Add the boxes, assign each item to a box and tick Also print one slip per box. You get the full list plus one slip per box, marked “Box 1 of 3” and so on.

Which paper sizes are supported?

A4, US Letter and 4 × 6 in thermal labels. The PDF uses the exact page size; when printing from the browser, choose the same size in the print dialog.
