About the Lorry Receipt (LR) and Bilty Generator for Indian Transporters
Make the lorry receipt (LR, bilty or consignment note) your transport company issues for each load. Fill in your company with its GSTIN and PAN, the consignor and consignee with theirs, from and to, the vehicle and driver, the packages — how many, how packed, what they are said to contain, the actual and the charged weight — and the freight: a fixed amount or a rate per kg, quintal, tonne or package, with loading, door collection and delivery, LR charges and an advance. Choose whether the freight is paid, to pay or to be billed, and who pays the GST on it: the consignor or the consignee under reverse charge, or you at 5% or 18% under forward charge, as CGST + SGST or IGST.
The LR shows the goods’ invoice and e-way bill numbers, the insurance and risk, your remarks and your own terms, and prints as consignor, consignee, driver and office copies on A4 or A5. LR numbers run in your own series; New LR puts the finished one in the LR register, which lists every LR on this device and exports to Excel. Saved parties and vehicles fill in a form in a click.
Without a pass the free preview shows every copy as page images marked “MySmartCoPilot preview · not for use”, with the worked-out freight, GST, totals and amount in words hidden; a Premium pass downloads the PDF, prints the copies, copies the text and exports the register. Your entries, the saved lists and the register stay yours and are never locked. Everything stays in your browser. The LR is your own document: this page does not make e-way bills.
How to use it
- Fill in your transport company once — name, address, GSTIN, PAN, phone and a logo if you like; it is kept for your next LRs.
- Give the LR number, the date, from and to, and whether the freight is paid, to pay or to be billed.
- Fill in the consignor and the consignee (or pick them from your saved parties), then the vehicle and driver.
- Add the packages — number, packing, what they contain, actual and charged weight — and the freight: a fixed amount or a rate, with any other charges and the advance.
- Choose who pays the GST on the freight, add the goods’ invoice and e-way bill numbers and the insurance and risk, and choose the copies and the paper.
- Check the preview; with a Premium pass, Download PDF (one page per copy) or Print. New LR saves this LR to the register and starts the next number.
Examples
120 boxes of brackets (2,400 kg, charged 2,500 kg) and 40 bags of bolts (1,000 kg) · ₹2.50 per kg · loading ₹500, LR charges ₹100 · to pay · we charge 18% GST · consignee in Gujarat
Freight ₹8,750.00 · taxable ₹9,350.00 · IGST 18% ₹1,683.00 · total ₹11,033.00, to pay on delivery
Charged weight 2,500 + 1,000 = 3,500 kg × ₹2.50 = ₹8,750. The consignee, who pays the freight, is in another State than the transporter, so the 18% is IGST.
GST on the freight: the consignee pays it under reverse charge
Total ₹9,350.00; the LR says “GST on this freight is payable by the consignee under reverse charge, at 5%.”
Freight ₹1,001 · we charge 5% · consignee in the transporter’s own State
CGST 2.5% ₹25.03 + SGST 2.5% ₹25.02 = ₹50.05 · total ₹1,051.05
The 5% (₹50.05) is split into two halves to the paisa: ₹25.03 and the ₹25.02 that remains.
Common uses
- A truck owner or transport company issuing an LR for each load booked at its office.
- A booking agent keeping a register of every bilty issued, with freight to pay and freight paid.
- A transporter giving the consignor, the consignee and the driver their copies and keeping the office copy.
- Rebuilding a month’s LR register in Excel for accounts and GST.
What the LR shows
- Your company: name, address, GSTIN, PAN, phone, branch and logo.
- The consignment: LR number and date, from and to, consignor and consignee with their GSTINs and States, vehicle number and type, driver, licence and mobile.
- The packages: how many, how packed, what they are said to contain, the actual and the charged weight, with their totals.
- The freight: the freight with the rate it comes from, each other charge, the GST and the total in figures and words, the advance and the balance, and who pays the freight — paid, to pay or to be billed (and to whom).
- The goods’ papers: the invoice number, date and value, and the e-way bill number and date.
- Insurance and risk: at owner’s or carrier’s risk, who insured the goods, the insurer, policy and amount.
- Your remarks, your own terms and conditions, and signatures for the consignor, the consignee and you, on each copy with its marking.
GST on the freight
Transport of goods by a goods transport agency is taxed at 5% without input tax credit, paid either by the person paying the freight under reverse charge or by the transporter under forward charge, or at 18% with input tax credit, charged by the transporter under forward charge (GST Council’s recommendations on goods transport agencies). Choose what applies to this load:
- Reverse charge (consignor or consignee): no GST is added to the LR; it says who pays it, at 5%. Whether a freight payer pays under reverse charge depends on who they are — the GST Reverse Charge Checker explains the rule.
- Forward charge (5% or 18%): you charge the GST on the freight and the other charges. It is IGST when the freight payer is in another State, and CGST + SGST in your own State; the page works this out from the two GSTINs, or you choose it.
- No GST: for a load on which no GST is charged.
This page writes the choice you make on the LR; it does not decide your tax.
The e-way bill
For goods moved by road, the e-way bill’s Part-B holds the vehicle number, and an e-way bill is complete only once Part-B is filled in; a party without a GSTIN is entered as “URP” (unregistered person), according to the e-way bill portal’s FAQs. Generate the e-way bill on its portal and put its number on the LR: this page reminds you when the invoice value is above ₹50,000 and no number is given. The E-Way Bill Validity Calculator works out how long it lasts.
The register, saved parties and vehicles
- New LR puts the LR you finished in the register (once it has a number, a consignor and a consignee) and starts the next number; Save this LR to the register does it at any time, and saving an LR again updates it.
- The register lists every LR with its date, route, consignee, packages, total and freight basis. Open brings one back into the form to see, print or copy again.
- Register as Excel gives a sheet of every LR with its weights, freight, other charges, GST, total, advance, balance, GST payer, invoice and e-way bill, and a totals row.
- Back up the register saves your LRs as a file you can restore in any browser; saved parties and vehicles fill a form from a list. All of it stays in this browser.

Limitations
- The LR is your own document: it does not make or check e-way bills, and it does not decide who pays GST — you choose it.
- Totals are of one load. The register keeps up to 500 LRs in this browser; back it up to keep more, or to move it to another device.
- Terms and conditions are yours: the page prints what you write and does not supply legal wording.
- Amounts are in rupees; weights in kilograms.

Frequently asked questions
What do I get without a pass?
Without a pass, Lorry Receipt (LR) and Bilty Generator for Indian Transporters shows every copy as page images marked “MySmartCoPilot preview · not for use”, with the worked-out freight, GST, totals and amount in words hidden. Until you unlock it, the result can’t be downloaded, copied or printed. A Premium or Ultimate pass, a one-time payment that never renews, unlocks the full result. The pricing page lists the passes and their prices.
What is a lorry receipt (LR) or bilty?
The document a transporter issues when it takes goods to carry: who sends them to whom, from where to where, in which vehicle, how many packages of what and their weight, the freight and who pays it. The consignor, the consignee, the driver and the transporter’s office each keep a copy.
Who pays GST on lorry freight?
Either the person paying the freight, under reverse charge at 5%, or the transporter, under forward charge at 5% without input tax credit or 18% with it, when it has opted to pay the tax itself. Choose the one that applies on the LR; the GST Reverse Charge Checker explains who pays under reverse charge.
What is the difference between paid, to pay and to be billed?
Paid: the consignor pays the freight when the goods are booked. To pay: the consignee pays on delivery. To be billed: the freight is billed later, to the consignor, the consignee or another party you name.
Can I keep a register of my LRs?
Yes. Every LR you finish with New LR, or save to the register, is listed under the preview in this browser; open any one again, back the register up to a file, or export it to Excel with a pass.
Do I need a pass?
To download the PDF, print the copies, copy the LR as text or export the register to Excel, yes: a Premium pass unlocks every Premium tool. Without a pass you get a free preview: every copy as page images with the worked-out freight, GST, totals and amount in words hidden.
Is anything uploaded?
No. The LR is made in your browser, and your draft, parties, vehicles and register are kept only in its storage on this device.
