About the Australia Paid Parental Leave Calculator

Work out Australia's Parental Leave Pay for your family: how many days you can get, the days reserved for a partner, whether each parent meets the work test and the income test, and what the days you plan to take add up to. A family gets 130 days (26 weeks of 5 days) for a child born or adopted on or after 1 July 2026 and 120 days for one born from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026, paid at $200.94 a day before tax: 7.6 hours of the national minimum wage (Paid Parental Leave Act 2010; Services Australia).

Enter the date of birth or adoption, whether you have a partner, each parent's adjusted taxable income and work in the 13 months before the birth, and how you plan to split the days. The calculator shows each test with the reason, the pay for each parent and in total, the superannuation the ATO adds, and how a different split changes your family's total. Nothing you type leaves your browser.

Without a pass, the free preview shows your parental leave pay in total and the eligibility checks in full, with the first rows of each table and the first step of the working; a Pro pass unlocks every figure: each parent's pay, the sharing comparison and the summary to copy, download or print.

How to use it

  1. Enter the date of birth or adoption (or the expected date of birth), and the date you lodge your claim if you claim before the birth: the income test is fixed on the earlier of the two.
  2. Say whether you have a partner, then enter each parent’s adjusted taxable income for the income year before that date and their work in the 13 months before the birth.
  3. Enter the days each parent plans to take and the days you take together, then read the tests, the days and the pay for each parent and for your family.
  4. With a Pro pass, or after unlocking this result, use Copy summary, Download CSV or Print; without one the page shows a free preview.

Examples

A baby due on 15 February 2027, the couple taking 90 and 30 days
Result
$24,112.80 in total before tax for 120 days at $200.94 a day, and the ATO adds about $2,893.54 to super; 10 more days are still there to take.
A single parent taking every day
Result
$26,122.20: a parent without a partner can take all 130 days.
A partner earning $320,000 who does not qualify
Result
$21,098.70 for 105 days: the other parent qualifies alone, so the 20 days reserved for the partner are lost and 110 days are the most.
One parent over the individual limit, the couple under the family limit
Result
$26,122.20: $230,000 is over the individual limit of $186,487, but the couple's $290,000 is under the family limit of $386,525.

How many days your family can get

  • Born or adopted on or after 1 July 2026: 130 days for the family. A parent who has a partner can take at most 110: 20 days are reserved for the other parent and are lost if they are not used.
  • Born or adopted from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026: 120 days, at most 105 for each partnered parent (15 reserved).
  • A single parent can take all of the family's days.
  • At the same time: both parents can be paid for the same day on up to 20 days.
  • When: any day from the birth to the day before the child's second birthday, in blocks as short as one day (Services Australia; Paid Parental Leave Act 2010, s 31ABA).

The rate

Each day pays 7.6 times the hourly national minimum wage that applies on that day (Paid Parental Leave Act 2010, s 65). With the national minimum wage of $26.44 an hour (Fair Work Commission), that is $200.94 a day, $1,004.70 for a week of 5 days, for days taken in 2026-27; days taken in 2025-26 were paid $189.62. The rate goes with the day you take, not with the date of birth, and usually rises on 1 July each year. Parental Leave Pay is taxable.

The work test

In the 13 months before the birth (or the expected date of birth), you need about 10 months of paid work or paid leave in a row, 295 days in the Act, in which a break of up to 12 weeks between two working days still counts, and at least 330 hours of work in those 10 months: about 7.84 hours a week (Paid Parental Leave Act 2010, ss 32–36). A day on which you were paid Parental Leave Pay for an earlier child counts as 7.6 hours. Services Australia can accept an exception after a premature birth, pregnancy complications that stopped you working, or other special circumstances. For a birth, if the birth mother does not meet the work test, her partner cannot get Parental Leave Pay either (Services Australia); for an adoption, the partner of an adoptive parent is paid only if an adoptive parent meets the work test (Paid Parental Leave Act 2010, s 13).

The income test

The test uses adjusted taxable income in the income year before the birth or your claim, whichever is earlier (Services Australia). For a birth or claim from 1 July 2026 that is 2025-26 income: at most $186,487 for you, or at most $386,525 for you and your partner together. A single parent's own income is tested against the family limit. For a birth or claim from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026 the limits were $180,007 and $373,094 (2024-25 income).

Superannuation on Parental Leave Pay

For a child born or adopted from 1 July 2025, the ATO pays a superannuation contribution into your super fund after each financial year: 12% of the Parental Leave Pay you were paid in that year (the superannuation guarantee rate) plus an amount for interest, with no claim to make (Paid Parental Leave Act 2010, s 115C; Superannuation Guarantee (Administration) Act 1992, s 17A).

Limitations

  • An estimate from the published rules, not a Services Australia decision. MySmartCoPilot is an independent site, not affiliated with Services Australia or the Department of Social Services.
  • The work test is worked out from your answers about the 13 months before the birth; Services Australia checks the dates and hours you actually worked, and decides on exceptions.
  • The residence rules, newly arrived resident’s waiting periods, stillbirth, surrogacy and exceptional circumstances are not worked out in detail; enter what applies to you and check with Services Australia.
  • Days taken after the current financial year are worked out at today’s rate; they are paid at the national minimum wage in force when you take them.

How much is Parental Leave Pay?

$200.94 a day before tax for days taken in 2026-27, $1,004.70 for a week of 5 days. All 130 days for a child born or adopted on or after 1 July 2026 come to $26,122.20 at that rate.

26 weeks (130 days) for a child born or adopted on or after 1 July 2026, and 24 weeks (120 days) for one born from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026. With a partner, 4 of the 26 weeks are reserved for each parent.
