About the Visual Regression Checker
Catch UI changes across local screenshot sets. Baseline and new images are matched by exact relative name, then compared with a retained perceptual anti-alias-aware engine. Set a threshold, draw named ignore rectangles, sort by changed compared area and inspect side-by-side, overlay or swipe views. Missing pairs and size mismatches stay explicit. The preview processes up to three pairs with marks; a Pro pass opens batches up to500, the complete HTML report and an explicitly approved new-baseline ZIP. Original ignore-region settings stay editable and downloadable without a pass.
How to use it
- Choose baseline and new local folders, ZIPs or multiple raster images. Correct duplicate relative names.
- Set the threshold and anti-alias option. Draw or edit named normalized ignore rectangles and reuse them by screenshot name.
- Compare and inspect changed-area sorting, side-by-side, alpha overlay and swipe views; review missing and resized images separately.
- With a Pro pass, approve intended current files and export the new baseline or full report. Original settings remain unlocked.
Sources and applicability
Pixelmatch documentation. Visual comparison concepts. The retained engine carries its complete ISC notice.
Limitations
- Thresholds, anti-alias treatment and ignored pixels affect the comparison; it is not a semantic accessibility or behavior test.
- PNG, JPEG and WebP raster files stay local. No screenshot browser or visited website is launched; oversized local allocations give an actionable error.

Frequently asked questions
What do I get without a pass?
Without a pass, Visual Regression Checker shows the first matched pairs with marked differences; remaining pairs are counted without pixel processing. Until you unlock it, the result can’t be downloaded or copied. A Pro, Premium or Ultimate pass, a one-time payment that never renews, unlocks the full result. The pricing page lists the passes and their prices.
What is processed without a pass?
Up to three matched pairs are decoded and compared, with marks on their difference previews. Remaining pairs are counted without pixel processing.
Does approval overwrite my old files?
No. It builds a new local baseline ZIP. Unapproved original baseline bytes stay in it; new, missing and resized images require explicit review.
